Yoda's Jedi Journals (aka Yoda's Yammerin's)

Tks everyone....for comments about FIL and about the yahoos!!! Yes, I truly think they are merely oblivious! -
Unless you luck in like Neenagh, you are going to pay for a hotel in Toronto, especially if you want to stay at one close to the clinic (which is downtown...so pricier). You may want to stay at one closeby. You can ask Nisrine which ones are close by and she will help you out. There is one only a block and a half away....Mr Yoda stayed there because I had to stay overnight at the clinic (due to sleep apnea, they kept me overnight as a precaution)....so it was very convenient. I believe the gov't rate (same as CAA Rate) was about $100/night. Motels on the outskirts will be cheaper but you will be much further away from the clinic. Another option would be to stay at a hotel close to the airport since I know you'll be flying....it would be about a 30-45 min cab ride to TLBC from airport area (depending on traffic). But they will be pricey around the airport too.....around $100.

Hi Aza... the fear is normal....as for the RNY...that is the MAIN reason I didn't (& never would have) consdiered bypass surgery. It just isn't something I would ever do. I'm not judging, I just knew it wasn't a choice I could make for me. You can't compare the RNY to the band. It is like comparing apples and orange...actually no...not even like that. It is more like comparing an apple to a guinea pig....in other words, there IS no comparison. My advice, (though it may be too late) don't read those types of things....yes...be informed of all possibilities but don't read in detail about people's various complications, for instance. For example, I know LBT has a complications thread....I didn't go into it nor do I plan on going into unless I myself am experiencing a complication and want to research it. It was enough just being informed of what the possible complications were (ie. from my doctor).....I didn't need (or want) to know the details of individual people's troubles with the band.... I hope that helps. But overall, you said it....you may be on the road to really bad health (if not already there).....so this is something that you have to choose to do for you....once you are informed. Personally, it is the best thing I have ever done for me.

It's not all mandatory. ICQ is a chat program (like msn messenger)....if you don't have it, you can just leave it blank. Actually, even if you do have it, you can leave it blank. As for the other stuff, I will have to go look again.

Yasmina, it is good to know and be prepared for. But, it also doesn't happen to everyone.....luck of the draw, I think!! So, don't despair! You might be in the lucky group and not lose any....or so little that you won't notice!

That reminds me of my fave line in the movie "Devil Wears Prada": It goes something like this (paraphrased): "I'm on a new diet... I don't eat until I feel faint...then I eat a cube of cheese" (my husband and I howled at that one). The other one I liked: "I'm only one more stomach flu away from my goal weight". Oh yeah...and Tired Old Man: I think they did send bags of grain....that white "dress" the model is wearing in that photo....I think that was actually made from her bag of grain!!!! Yech! (the dress, and the model).

Your pre-op stuff is generally done by your family doctor anyways...the docs doing your surgey don't do the pre-op stuff. You would find out the requirements etc and what needs to be done during your consult (whether that be done on the phone or in person).

I was blown away by the latest news. Like for many, this case has haunted me in many ways over the last 10 years. I hope, in fact, this guy Karr is the killer and it will be proven beyond any doubt (I understand they got DNA from evidence in 2003...and if it matches this guys' DNA...then it will pretty much be the forensic proof that is required). It will all be on Larry King Live tonight....so that show should explain a few things. If he is the killer, it is too bad that Patsy passed away before knowing the truth. It'll be interesting to see how it all plays out....at what (if any) prior relationship this guy had with the family. I know, I, for one, will easily admit that I have strongly suspected the family (one or both parents) for the longest time.

That is really good news Mandi; especially re. part of Dan's ticket. What sweet and understanding parents you have. Hmmmmmm, lets not forget that Dan bought you a pair of jeans!!! LOL.
-
That makes perfect sense Mandi!

Yes, most of them do the phone consults. Oh....wait for surgery!! Sorry....why I thought you were asking about how long between surgery and first fill is beyond me!! LOL. It varies....could be anywhere from 6-8 weeks as Mandi said or longer....it will vary I'm sure and is bound to increase as it becomes more and more popular. That is one of the queries you can ask during your consult.
-
Yes indeedy, that is TLBC. It is a very nice clinic indeed (I guess, given the price we pay!) LOL. The docs and staff (both pre and post op) are wonderful. Furthermore, Dr. Joffee was one of the (if not the first one) first surgeons doing this surgery in Canada.....so he has the most experience. I recommend you merely visit a couple of the places in TO and get a "feel" for them. No complaints from me nor have I seen any other complaints from others who had it done at TLBC.

Hey Wheezy....how is the fill goin'? I wanted to comment on two things. 1. First of all....that just sounds odd that your doc would say that the Ottawa doc won't give a fill without the okay from him. That MAY be a gentleman's agreement that they have...but c'mon....anyone can go to any doc (hypothetically speaking) and they don't need the other doc's approval.....ya know? Yes, I know it is "new" and they may not want to do it...but if they DO want to do it and are willing to do it, they don't NEED the surgeon's approval. My two cents. 2. Re the doc telling you to eat 3/4 cup as an amount. I just want to clarify something for you (& anyone else reading)....because at first I thought, "Holy crap...that ain't a whole lot". But, then it was pointed out to me that that 3/4 cup mearsurement (or 1 cup or whatever the case may be) is the "measurement" of the food CHEWED UP to mush. So if you think about it, that is a lot!!! (as opposed to something just plunked into your measuring cup). Of course I don't actually "measure"...but I can eyeball it and know how much I'm eating. That being said....I don't really eyeball anymore....I eat till I feel full....which just happens to be about 3/4 to 1 cup of "chewed up" food. Hope that helps!

CONGRATS on the size 18s Mandi! That is soooo awesome (how sweet of Dandi to get them for you, too!). Plus...you know he is right....you are prob used to wearing things baggy....so it is good you got the medium sweater! He wants you to show off you figure, and so you should! I've started doing this too....voluntarily (which is a switch, let me tell ya!). Soon we'll be hearing how the 18s are fallin' off ya!!!! Keep it up! Re. the haircut....go back!!! I know it is hard, but go back and tell them you aren't satisfied and would like it "fixed" to suit your desires. They want that....if you aren't satisfied, they want to make sure you are. So, go back (asap) and be nice about it and tell them there was merely some miscommunication and get what you want. There should be no charge. If they DO charge you....never go back there again! I agree...don't cut it yourself. And for next time....do the pic thing as Cloe suggets...works for me all the time. You are doing fab Mandi.....be proud of yourself!!! :girl_hug: :clap2:

Saw FIL at the ICU on Sat. He seemed in good spirits. Found out today that this morning he got moved out of ICU into a regular room....so he is doing better and may be out of the hospital by the end of the week (hopefully). Then went to MIL place for TGiving dinner and spent the night; it all went okay. Dinner was fine...nobody appeared to notice that I didn't eat much or anything although I seemed to get a few hairy eyeball looks for taking such a long time...thankfully my 6 year old nephew was taking his sweet ass time too! LOL. AND....nobody noticed the 51 lb weight loss at all. No comments, no long looks, no hairy eyeballs.....nothing. I suppose that is okay since I don't want them knowing about the surgery and I therefore have avoided the "how did you do it" questions....but still....a bone woulda been nice! But...as Mr Yoda says, all that is important is that I know and he (Mr. Yoda) knows.....I know he is right.....but a bone is still nice! LOL. Hope everyone else had a good TGiving wknd (I know it isn't over yet but since I'm back home now I sorta feel mine is...plus Mr Yoda still has to work on the "holiday" tomorrow). -
At TLBC they usually schedule your first fill appt. the day of the actual surgery....the first fill is normally 6 weeks after surgery.

Wow! Really Loriely? That is interesting. Hmmmm, if she is the person I am thinking of.....she seemed very NOT big to me. Maybe 20 lbs overweight....IF that. Odd. -
Oh man do I hear ya there. I thank my lucky stars every second (okay, maybe only twice a day....when I go to bed and when I awake) that I have Mr Yoda.

soooo.....this morning I get a call at 5:00 am (not a good sign) ...Mr Yoda was already at work at this wee hour so I had to get the phone straight from my deep slumber. The phone call informed me that Mr Yoda's dad was rushed to the emerg in the middle of the night and was in ICU. They didn't have a whole lot of info (those in-laws live in Niagara Falls). So, it was a bit of a nail biting morning waiting to find out some useful info. He is okay now but is, however still in ICU and expected to stay there for a few days. So.....change in our plans obviously and we are off to the Falls (before going to Burlington for our turkey gathering) to see him first. Makes me feel kinda bad for complaining about what I was complaining about. Seems so inconsequential now. Anyways....I am hoping that this TGiving will be something to be thankful for and nothing "bad" will happen to him.
