Doddie, I'm sorry but I have to disagree. The medical system(s) in Canada are 100% provincial....they are NOT federal. Yes, some of the $$ is transferred from Fed to Prov gov't but it is DEFINITELY a provincial system and run provincially. If you say this out of AB person was referred to AB....then I suppose that is possible under some special circumstance/program or something though I find it odd. And, yes, some provinces will refer persons to the US for surgery (any type) if they can't support/provide it. But that is a different thing from referring them to another Province....(only because those provinces have their own "people" to look after). I just want to clear up any misconceptions anyone may have about our (Canada's) health care system.....Provincial!!! (though, of course I agree it "should" be federal).
-
I HIGHLY doubt that an individual living "out of province" (ie. AB in this case) qualifies for AB provincial health insurance....no, and out of province resident cannot get anything like the band paid for....holy smokes!!! Pers within their OWN province can't get it. There is a miscommunication somewhere...so don't get your hopes up.
-
You'll do GREAT! Just think....the waiting for the surgery is the hard part and now it is almost over! I forget....did you bring someone with you? (I hope so!). If so, make sure that if you haven't already got your pain prescription (& gotten it filled) that your "buddy" gets the script and then gets it filled while you are undergoing surgery. Then, it will be all ready for you when you need it back at the hotel and you won't have to "wait" for it to get filled etc etc. Good luck....!

Took a deep breath - called TLBC - booked!!!
Yoda replied to Ginger_'s topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I think that is pretty subjective. It all depends on the individual...one person may find Dr. Mumford's clinic more personable whereas another person may find quite the opposite and think TLBC is much more personal. By the way...anyone can also meet with Dr Yau at TLBC....all you have to do is ask! Miranda...I think you are merely experiencing the normal "last minute worries" etc..completely normal; most everyone went through this stage. So, rest assured you are going through the normal progression of emotions. You will be in great hands at TLBC...you obviously did your research and made the decision based on your own set of personal criteria...so have some faith in your decision making abilities! -
Have you called them?
-
Yeah...it is TLBC....not the "Dr J clinic". Good luck Doddie...I'm sure it will go well, as you know, Dr Y is awesome!
-
depends on the hospital, the ER, and the staff....it may only have burst the bubble in your circumstance...not in all! Also, I'm pretty sure if they are at loose ends and all else has failed...they will look at the DVD!

Could I get someone to kick my *ss, please?
Yoda replied to CanadaSunshine's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
CanadaSunshine...I know how the day can get away from you...especially if you are holed up in the basement working on the computer....my advice: get up and do it FIRST thing in the morning (have a lil' something to eat first) ....make it the first thing you do BEFORE you start work etc. That way it is done and over with before you feel your day starts, type of thing. If you have to get up earlier....than so be it. Just try it and see how that works for you. Remember, you'll likely hate it at first...but don't let that stop you....you have to do it several times to get used to it and make it part of your routine and habit. If you keep it up, eventually you'll find yourself "lost" if you don't do it. Good luck! -
It varies. If in doubt, call the clinic and ask them....don't take what people here say wrt your particular situation! That is what the clinic is there for!! Ask and make sure before you act!

I think it is just your lack of food intake. Your body is saying "WTF"!!!!??? You are bound to feel like that since you likely don't have enough energy in your body. Take is easy...you can't do the same intensity during this period (or the post-op). Work your way back up to it once you are eating and consuming lots of energy.
-
Absolutely not. A "sticking out" port does not equate to a flipped port.
-
WOW>..you've done soooooooooo super well!!!!! Congratulations!!! :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2:
-
Okey Dokey.
-
well, if you don't understand why it is a bizarre statement....(let me count the ways!) it isn't worth it to try and explain it! Bottom line is that YOU believe it and if that is what is important to you and works for you...then yay. :paranoid
-
not a stupid question Jurema.... "You" won't be able to tell if your port has moved or is sideways. The doctor or a skilled fill nurse would be able to take a very educated guess...but the only "for sure" way to see if there is a problem is under fluro. I wouldn't worry about it....what you described when you feel under your scar is completely normal!
-
Yeah, no kidding, eh??!!! In more ways than one.... 1. what a marketing scheme....2nd best!! LOL LOL Ahhhh, the irony. 2. and WHO decides this!!! I'm sorry...lmao...this is just too funny!

I don't like voice mail either...but lets face it, these people don't sit around at their desk all day! That IS what voice mail and e-mail is for...so that they can get back to you as quickly as possible. I've never had an issue with that. Part of the trick is knowing WHO to leave the voice mail and/or e-mail with. If you leave it with the wrong person, naturally it will take that much longer to get to the right person and have them get back to you. Personally, I've never had an issue and have always had my e-mail/voice-mail returned to me in a timely fashion. If I REALLLLLY want to talk to a real person right away, I don't leave a voice mail....I just keep phoning every 10 mins or so and then I'm bound to get them at their desk at some point. Don't get discouraged....just handle it properly. And, if you still aren't satisfied, as Susan said....kindly ask them what you can do at your end to receive more attention....etc.
-
hmmmm....sorry to be so brutally honetst...but ummmm....errrr...how shall I put this....that is CRAP!!
-
exercise is not (and has never been) a problem for me. It has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. Mostly because I enjoy it. That is the trick....finding something you enjoy so it doesn't seem like a chore and something you "have to do". And, what works for one, won't work for another. Also...variety variety variety so you don't get bored. Remember.....takes 21 days to change a habit (of doing the "habit" for 21 days).

WOW MANDI!!!!! 160s!!!! That is soooooooo incredibly AWESOME!!! Well done, girl! That seems soooooooooo freakin' far out of my reach..............I haven't moved downwards in 3 weeks (& in fact have gained)..... grrrrrr....it just may be beyond my reach.....the 160s. Hell, I'd settle for the 180s now!!! Anyways, tis not about meeeeee!! (LOL).... Yay you! :clap2:
-
Green.....take care of yourself....I hope you feel better soon and get rid of that nasty infection. *sending you good vibes*. You have done AWESOME....."no scale girl".....!!!
-
Others have already said it, so I won't repeat it Susan.....just HANG IN THERE!!! It will get better! By the way....as for your portion sizes.....*slaps you upside the head*. Do you not have the TLBC "Post Op Diet and Nutrition Plan"???? or are you reading it incorrectly (or am I misreading your post??). On the mushies (Pureed Diet) stage you can eat MORE than 1/4 cup at a meal!!!! Do NOT starve yourself by only having 1/4 cup if you can eat more. As an example....for lunch ...you can have: 1/4 cup minced tuna AND 1/4 cup pureed potatoes AND 1/4 cup pureed veg...... In other words, this adds up to 3/4 cup (in this instance). A good very very very filling (& chock full of protein) mushie to have is the following: Take a can of "bean & bacon" Soup....add the 1 can of Water (as it says)....then add 1/2 can of refried Beans....mix it all up and then slowly heat it up in a pot on the stove (stirring frequently). It is a very thick soup and should fill you up. Eat 3/4 cup of it..... Good luck.....! All in all, you are doing GREAT, so don't berate yourself.
-
Absolutely not. You should be able to very easily swallow water with no issues/problems immediately after a fill. This is for a reason. Ultimately the choice is yours....but you'd have to lie....as if you tell them you are having a problem, they will take some out (again, for a reason). But, why you would lie is beyond me!!! Be patient and do it the right way...that is my recommendation!
