Yes, I had absolutely HORRIBLE side effects after the surgery. For instance, I've lost almost 80 lbs and so many inches I can't keep track. So, be prepared for it! :biggrin1:

Those are awesome measurements Mandi....who cares about the weight number when you have inches such as that losts!!! THAT'S what it's all about!!! Well done!!! (regardless of your one year reading tomorrow!) :clap2: :clap2: :clap2:

Good luck LeslieLee. And....by the way...no worries about spellin'....we don't judge folks here on their spellin' and grammar!!! (well, Mandi and Chloe do, but the rest of us don't!!!)
  4. Benefibre is AWESOME> I even used it prior to banding. As Mandi said, it is non-thickening etc.....yes, you can add it to ANYthing. Like Andrew, I get mine at costco. Robgoblin: you are absolutely correct....PS have to be good surgeons, per say. Check it out, ask your questions....compare and see how you feel!

6 days till I hit the table!!

    Good Luck MacDaddy!!!!!
  6. If ya want good seafood, go to a place that specializes in seafood. If ya want awesome pizza, go to a place that specializes in pizza. If you want a lapband, go to a place that specializes in lapband surgery. Just a thought. Looking at the TCC website, they do a lil of EVERYTHING......if ya know what I mean jellybean. Now, if I was lookin' to have my hymen re-installed....well....then it might be a consideration!!! Seriously...ya, do the consult....and go where your gut tells you....if it is for the sake of saving only a grand...I'd still go to the place that specializes in the surgery as opposed to the place that has it as one of dozens of menu items.

    aaaah....gotcha....the HMCS WhencanIaffordit.....!
  8. Many many moons ago a friend gave me a book entitled "How to regain your virginity". It didn't work!!! LOL. Mind you there was no mention of the hymen restoration (I still can't say that without crackin' up!!!). What kills me is the website states that it may "break" due to things other than sex: such as horseback riding (UH...yeah RIGHT!), tampon usage (okay, I can see that) and things requiring a lot of flexibility...... LMAO. So whats da problem? If da man tinks ye are no longer a virgin cause yer hymen ain't intact, just tell him ya went on a horsie!!! OH VEY!!! Some men!!!! I know Canada is a multicultural society and all, but this really takes the cake!!!!!!!!!! As for the Labia reduction...ya, that just grosses me out too much to even think about it!!!!!!! Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaah, the things some women will go through.....for MEN!!??!!!!

Vewwwwwy nice Mandi....when do you get it? What kind of car is it?
  10. yeah...cause regardless of the type of band used, the ports are the same and the fill is done in the exact same manner.
  11. It doesn't matter though who compiles the list. Just because Dr. Cobourn's office compiles the list doesn't mean you can't use it or the people on that list if you weren't banded by Dr. C.
  12. Thanks Susie. I hope this puts an end to any speculation and/or the rumour mill.
  13. Thank you for explaining it better that me Doddie (the knock off thing)....it got me frustrated .....and I tried to keep it under control!! You did a good job explaining what I had been feeling about the use of "knockoff" terminology!!! Grrr!! LOL
  14. I haven't heard of Dr Tin's clinic either. TLBC is booking for surgeries 6-8 weeks in advance, so no....that is not a concern. I would DEFINITELY ask the questions re. how experienced he is...how many has he done, for how long has he been doing it, what is his complication rate etc. It's a personal choice, but ME,...I would go for the tried, tested and true....

    First Fill Done

Okay....so yeah, one of my fills did take over 2 hrs (ie. her trying over and over and over)!!! This is before they decided that fluro would be best for me! LOL (although, for the record, I can now have them NOT by fluro!). But really, mine was a unique circumstance and for her to have said it can take 2 hrs is ABSOBLOODYLUTELY ridiculous!!! As for the wait time....ya it sucks...but really....that is the norm here in Ontario anyways....I NEVER expect to be taken into a medical appt on time. I just bring a book and mentally prepare myself to wait; if I am on time...it is just a bonus!
  16. No, there are different "make" of bands (though they are all virtually the same; just made by different companies)...but there are NO "Knockoffs" (Yeeeeesh) used in Canada!!! All the makes of bands used are, indeed, all approved!

    First Fill Done

Hey Astro....it is different for everyone (as with everything band related, it seems!)....some will notice a difference right away; for others it can take a few days to "kick in". It will even vary with the same individual....from day to day (the "feeling" of the fill). It is also "normal" to not feel much difference with the first fill; the lucky ones will feel a difference and the first fill will cause some "good" tightness (whether it be right away or within a few days); with others, we have to have more than one fill for the band to do its job.

    First Fill Done

WTG Gaffer! Well done! (freezing???? WIMP!!!! LOL). My how time flies...not too long ago, y'all newbies were talking about being banded (those of you banded around the same timeframe)...and now y'all are gettin' yer first fills!!! YAY!!!!

    Hi everyone!

One more thing Buffie....you are actually very fortunate that the diabetes was "caught" now at your age (like Mr Yoda).....the vast majority of people with diabetes don't find out about it until they are MUCH older and by then it has gone really far and they usually start our on insulin and the progression is soooo much worse. Since it was caught very early for you, you're laughin'!!!!!! (silver lining!).

    Hi everyone!

Buffie!!!!!!! How is my favourite vampire slayer??!!! You are doing sooooooooooooooooooo awesome!!! WELL DONE :clap2: Thanks for updating us and checking in; we were all wondering how you were! Okay, that SUCKS about the diabetes; especially after such an incredible weight loss. Though I don't know first hand what you are going through, about 2 yrs ago, Mr Yoda was diagnosed with Type II diabetes and he went through all the stages that you will likely go through (ie. shock, anger, denial, sadness, acceptance). So, just let yourself go through it....it needs to take its natural course. If you haven't already, be sure to see a nutrionist who specializes in diabetes. It helped us a GREAT deal. Type II diabetes runs rampant in Mr Yoda's family (mother, father, grandfather etc) so it didn't come as a big surprise (though it didn't make it any easier to take). Anyways....eventually you'll "get there"....it can take awhile to figure out the sugar control thing but eventually you will become an expert on your body and how what you eat and when you eat affects you. Your monitor will need to be your bestest friend for awhile. And...re. the medication...same thing....try different avenues (along with your doc's guidance) and find what works best for you...there are so many out there and different combinations etc. Don't be afraid to try to see what is going to work for you; there will be a cocktail out there that will be perfect for ya. And, don't worry about taking oral meds....it is better than insulin....(like Mr Yoda Senior). And...you are correct: maybe your body is just reacting and I bet with additional weight loss it might "go away". I don't know if any of that helps....just wanted to say that what you are feeling is normal....allow yourself to feel it. TAKE CARE!!!!!!!! You're NOT ALONE.....not in the band stuff nor in the diabetes stuff. Keep up the GREAT work!!!!! And make sure you don't deal with the diabetes issues alone....share it. :) ((((HUG))))

    Dr. Joffe and the TLBC

...and WHO CARES???? As for your second doubts, I'm sorry to hear that but perhaps you didn't research it enough prior to doing it. Also, don't forget, it is toughest at the beginning so you aren't going to feel "normal" right away. As for the diet coke....if you do a search, you will see that the verdict is basically still out on carbonated beverages. 50% of docs say no, 50% say it doesn't matter (unless it bugs you and causes you pain). Like I say, do a search on the topic and you will see that quite a few can still drink carbonated beverages with no issues (& with their doc's blessing) (of course it is wise to stay away from the high caloric carbonated beverages!).
