  1. I have been going to UT's weight loss and surgery center since Nov, 2008. Lynn and the office staff have made my 6month insurance required medically supervised office visits a very smooth process. I was recently approved by Cigna and will be having my surgery June 5th by Dr. Matthew Mancini who I have personally met twice durning my process. Tessa the centers dietician is a valuable resource as well as Lynn. I am very happy with my progress and several co-workers (5 so far) are either done with their surgery or are in the process. I would highly reccomend their program... Stephany Epps
  2. Lord-Be! I cheated twice on my pre-op and here's why! You get this loop in your head of Oh my goodness, I am NEVER going to be able to eat ..(watever)....... AGAIN in my life!! So I panicked and made sure I got that one or two last "Gotta Haves" before surgery. Truth is, and I wish I would have realized it before surgery and got my liver a little smaller which is the whole point of a pre-op diet, that there is nothing you can't have ever again, that the band is not about exclusions, its about portion control ! Don't let it get in your head that you are at your last supper, a farewell tour to good food, etc.. It will all be there when you are off your doctors restrictions to enjoy..... Just LESS of it!! Peace/Love!

    Looking for advice

Co-morbitities ie diabetes, High BP, Sleep apnea are also factors insurance companies look at, so U can have a low BMI, but 1 or 2 Co-morbities or a very high BMI and no other factors, it just depends on your insurance company. I worry about your depression and body image issues though! This is a hard step to take to fix yourself physically, you gotta work on your self-value too. Its a slow process and you got to have determination to make it through the long haul. You will be happy you did it, trust me, but make sure your mind is in the right place too.. Give yourself a little break you've taken a good step in a positive direction!
  4. I think it is due to the extra weight & pressure around ur tummy... Im not blessed enuff to be preggers, but I have a very blunt nurse who told me when I complained about port pain "well lose 20 lbs and see if it gets better"..( I was kinda dragging my feet in the weight loss area!) Sure enough 25lb lighter and I don't even realize my port is there... I would say and hope the same is true for you guys as well once you deliver! Blessings to you and Congrats!

    Staple Foods

The only thing I can't eat even to this day (a year later) is brocolli... It gives me severe gastric distress (think contractions, labor pains..ya that's it).. Didnt have the slightest issue before surgery..very odd... basics for me are: Tuna, Cottage Cheese, Pinto beans,Guacamole, Sour Cream (pair the last 3 and yum-o!) yogurt, steak, chicken, hamburger, I shy away from bread and pasta only because it fills me up too soon and cant eat the good stuff, so i basically eat a Atkins type diet...So far so good!!! Good luck Ya'll
  6. Thanks girls...and I did make it to 199 in a year..!!!! (Although, I was back to 200 the next morning, but still considering it a VICTORY!)

Staying hungry after my first fill

I didn't notice a restriction until a few days after my fill each time I had one.. (I have had about 6 over my 1st year). Not sure what your doctor instructs, but on fill days, I was not allowed to eat solids. only liquids on a fill day so your stomach can recover from the fill... after day 2 and throughout the week I would notice a slight tightness, but it wasnt really until fill 4-6 that I felt serious restriction, so it was basically baby steps in my experience in weight loss...But still quite happy with my progress!! Hope u continue with success

  15. I have Cigna first off... and a good insurance specialist at the doctors office.. I really didn't do anything special. Just jumped through their hoops for 6months and did everything they told me I had to do... Don't give up on your appeals though, they are counting on you to just go away. Keep at it!

    New Year, New You Challenge!

well I got nowhere near my goal, I had a few setbacks both mental and physical but I am not discouraged I am ready for 2010 !
  17. I know this has been asked somewhere on this thread, but I can't find it! I am about 4 1/2 months post-op and I am losing hair by the hand fulls! I shed constantly. I am taking all my vitamins (Daily plus a Calcium supplement) and am making protein a priorty in my diet (average about 60 a day). Is there something I can add to my diet or supplements to slow it down? Thanks in advance for any support!
