im so sorry for you laura, yes it might be a good idea to ask doctor chris if hell give you a provisional date as yes it will give you something to work towards and help you with your dieting at the moment (well done for your loss this week, thats more than a lot of us are doing with a band!) i really hope you get it done soon, just stick to your diet, and maybe ask your doctor for slimming tablets to help you get there, im sure theyll be sympathetic when they see how disappointed and desperate you feel. my doctor gave me two different types of diet tablets and they do work..you put the weight back on after, like we all do with diets but at least if you lose it to get the band done, you know whatever you lose then, it will be gone forever. i feel for you, especially wih your age, i really hope you get it done, and dont forget to keep on here for support.make an appointment at your doctors, good luck x -

:smile2: yes SJS, like wishfull says, they are so easy and painless, its a tiny little ready made sterile syringe in a pack, it was the thing i was most scared about being a bit of a needle phobic, but i was really proud that i did it myself!..i even did bigsisters first one, the needle is size of a hair and you just grab a bit of flab..which we all have on our belly! squeeze it tight and stick it in..i did it so slowly and couldnt believe it when i saw it sinking in cos i couldnt feel a thing!..i was also in a state about the first fill but that was easy too, its not painfull, i just dont like the thought of needles going in. youll be fine with it..if i was, anyone is! x -

hi alex, i had at least 6 stone to lose too. i want to be 10 stone, im just over 5 foot, but if you look at these silly charts it will say i should be somewhere between 6.5 and 7.5 stone no doubt!.. as its been stretched for so long,my skin would be hanging off me at that at my age, its bad enough now!. i am working on another 9 months ish, hopefully..but if it takes longer i dont mind, as long as it moves steadily and doesnt go back on. stick to what your told to eat before and after your fills..after the op its liquids for quite a while and youll have your biggest weight loss in first two weeks prob..then onto the sloppy/mushy stage for a week, then just go really carefully. it will prob take a few fills to get some restriction, but when you do get good restriction you should lose steadily. it should be about 1-2lb a week depending. i know that doesnt sound much but thats 4-8 stone in a year, which is realistic. there are times when you wont lose anything, and times where youll lose more. good luck anyway! -

you will probably find you have lost that stone in the first two weeks, it is usual to do that..it will slow down tho!..then you have to wait til the fills get you going again, it may take a few though, but you wont see that weight again..thats the difference with just dieting alone. we have all prob managed to lose one, two or more stones..then we put it all back on again..including another few more pounds!. but you wont with the band, thats the great bit! good luck! p.s., how much have you got to lose altogether? x -

to those going out today...good luck!..hear from you in a few days. homecare good luck on friday too, you will be fine, we all are back on here telling our tale a few days later! ( it was our first anniversary, been together 16 years though!) is it you too friday, timeisnow? i know someone else is going, but i have skimmed thro posts from this weekend there were so many!. Alex, sorry you have pain, everyone is different, i seemed to suffer a bit more than others in the first week after op, and wondered what and why i had done it!.but i can assure you, it will get better every single day, and it WILL be worth it. just take it easy and watch daytime tv with your feet up for a few days..and yes try this...lemsip flu strength and ibuprofen tablets together...its a good formula that works! hope your feeling better soon. Kathy..the breathlessness and feeling nauseous, esp when lying down at night..i used to get that..i thought it was the band, but maybe it was just the op? hope your feeling better soon too. i read an article about a woman who had lost a lot of weight through hypnosis, she had a 'virtual band' fitted under hypnosis, and is convinced she went into hospital for op, and can feel her band tightening when she eats!...interesting!, could save some money if it works?! x -

hi everyone, just got back from scarborough, been with kids for our anniversary weekend! the sun has come out now weve got home!.the full english breakfasts and table d'hote 3 course meals were fantastic, and i tasted everything but, david got most of the helpings of mine..managed the gorgeous homemade soup starter and the fresh cheesecake deserts, just didnt put the potatoes on plate and declined bread rolls. i even had three chips from one of those seafront chipshops!..took me about 10 minutes to eat them tho (in a bus shelter in the rain!) had bit of candy floss and a bite of fresh donut (doesnt go past band well!) thank god i dont really like ice cream! walked a bit and went ten pin bowling etc so hope i wont have put anything on..it is ok to have a bit of a treat tho, id go mad otherwise!..i cant physicly eat that much so cant go mad anyway. welcome to all newbies!..gosh there is a lot of you going out, waiting to get a date and those just thinking about it!..i think by the time you have joined this site there is no turning back anyway, and you WILL be going for it doing!. good luck to you all, look back thro this thread and see how well people have done. gillian x -

:wink2: welcome alex..your lucky to get that cancellation!..cos when you make your mind up you want band done, you want it done yesterday!..it is very usual to lose a stone in first couple of weeks, and then you lose more gradually, it seems to come to a bit of a plateau for a few weeks before starting up again..the fills then get you going again. i would think that realisticly you will have lost all your weight in 9 to 12 months. its still quite hard work, and we all hope its gonna drop off in few weeks, but it would be wrong if it did, the best and safest way is 1 to 2 lb a week after the initial stone or two..and whatever you lose, you will never see it again, thats the best bit, and the difference to a normal diet, where we would have given up and then put it all and more back on. anyway, youll be in great hands with dr chris, and the hospital is excellent..good luck and let us know how you went on when you get back, oh and by the way i started going on sunbed once a week about 2 weeks after, not been on em for weeks now but sat in the sun and i think its helped with the fading. gillian x -

there will be flirty!! there will be nothing you wont feel comfortable wearing soon! i have heard people who say they have lost about 10 stone, and they still reach to the back of the clothes rack in shops for a size 22!..it takes your head some getting round apparantly!..thats prob what your doing...not seeing the new you properly yet!!.but we can see its a whole new you! in the 'woman' mag this week, a woman whod had a band and lost 6 stone quick said that she cant really see it, and sees the different size labels in her clothes, but it just hasnt registered in her head yet!!. its been a bit of a whirlwind year for you hasnt it! and you look great. i forwarded the pics to bigsister, she says the same, you look fantastic and what a difference! dont forget Leeds isnt far from us in Sheffield, hope we can get to see you if you go with that surgeon for your ops x -

jackie, the tablets your doctor could give you to help are called 'orlistst' or 'xenical' they let some of the fat you eat in a meal pass right through you..they dont have nice side effects, and you need to be near a toilet!! cos when you gotta go, you gotta go then! they are the double strength 'alli' tablets. i also tried 'reductil', that takes away some of your appetite and did work a bit better for me, but you get side effects with that, headaches, sleeplessness, moody etc. you are best asking your doctor for help as some of these things you have to prove you can lose half a stone or summat yourself first before they will give em to you..which sounds daft i know!..have you told him you need to lose weight before you go over and have the op done?..he may be sympathetic you know?.. the last thing you want is to go over there and be turned down, so good luck anyway x -

well done shelley!...that was a really brilliant post for all those going over soon!!..i think we were all the same as you, it mirrored my experience anyway. go carefully for a few days and get plenty of rest. yes you can buy motilum tablets for the nausea in the chemist now, they are good..and i do remember the feeling of thirst after op..i was same, but that sponge lolly really does help it was a slimy mess by the time i got that first bottle of water! what a shame about poor kathy though, i really feel for her..but like you say dr chris and his team has your best interest at heart and not the money.x -

try not to worry homecare, im sure youll be fine..while i feel terrible for kathy, im sure this is rare, and like kathy said, chris has only had to stop an op 4 times and hes done near on 4,000 ops. and also, if he did have to do this then it would be for the best for your own health, and at least you would be well in the picture about why as he would explain totally. -

hi mmm...you have done so well!!..oooh to have to choose between the 14 and the 12!!. i will be there one day!! i know what you mean though about having to stop yourself buying clothes, i too am gonna be concentrating for the next 4 years paying the borrowed money back for the band! shoes, the advice that mmm has given you is good..i still get it but you do learn to "get a feeling" that something is gonna be hard work. odge, i had about the same amount of restriction as you without any fill also, it seems that some people do, some dont..were all different..you prob wont need many fills to take you to your sweet spot! x toppings, welcome to the forum, try and read back some pages, youll get loads of info to help you make your decision x hello everyone else, hope you have all had great weekend! x -
