  1. I would like to know if there are people out there who have had the lap band after gaining weight back from weigh loss surgery? Carney Wilson just had it done because she gained some weight back. I am considering it. Had my RNY surgery 15 years ago and have gained most of the weight back. It is really sad to think that I could put myself through major, life-threatening surgery and then not be successful with it. Please tell me your stories.

Lap Band After Weight Loss Surgery??

There were no mandatory support groups back then. We just had a group that got together each month because we wanted to. The docs would tell us about them if we were interested. No mandatory visits with nutritionist either. Things have changed a lot in 15 years. The program in my area is very strict now so I bet there is a much higher success rate.

Lap Band After Weight Loss Surgery??

Everybody who has weight loss surgery has food issues or we wouldn't have BMI's over 30 or more and need this surgery in the first place. Stretching the pouch is very common after so many years. I would like to hear from the people on this forum who have had it done...I don't need the negative posts...I beat myself up enough over this.
  4. Are there any members on here that have had the RNY several years ago and are now having the lap band? I would like to know as I had the RNY 14-15 years ago and have gained back most of the weight.
  5. New to site. Researching Lap Band after a failed Gastric Bypass 12 years ago. (Roux-en-Y). Wanted to know if there are people out there that had a gastric bypass a few years ago and are now being banded? Want to find out how it is going for you personally, any risks, what went wrong with bypass, etc. Need someone to talk to about this. Thanks!
  6. I am from Maine and one Doctor in Portland does it. I am looking into it now. I had bypass 12 years ago. So it can be done-some won't do it though.
  7. I am looking into a lap band after gastric bypass. I had the Roux-en-Y bypass 12 years ago. Lost 100 lbs., kept it off for about 3 years and then started to gain a little bit back each year. I gained about 85 of it back and have been at this weight (290) for 3 or so years now. What I have learned (a little late, of course!) through my journey...NONE of these procedures are some magic thing that will keep the weight off forever. Everything can be sabotaged and pushed to failure! They are just one tool that can help but we have to change our lifestyle. I have gotten smarter as I've gotten older and hopefully have figured this out...not to late. I am not even sure if the surgeon I am seeing at the end of the month will even to a band after bypass. He needs to put a scope down into my stomach to see if it is possible. We are doing that April 23. I have joined Weight Watchers and Curves to help me change my lifestyle. It seems to be helping but sometimes I feel like I need the restrictions from a band to keep me in check. Jenniferhlee: I don't mean any disrespect but it seems to me that choosing to go to Mexico for your band wasn't the best decision. I am curious as to why you would go to Mexico for this surgery? You said that everything goes straight through you or comes back up--how could you gain any weight this way? It doesn't make sense to me. There can be complications with bypass surgery too. The band is simply put around the top part of your stomach-bypass surgery re-routes your intestines. It is major!! Please make sure you have a top notch bariactric surgeon from the US help you.
  8. Thank you for the info. I have never heard of this. I will do some research on it.
  9. Andrea Hi. I am in the first stages of getting an appointment to see the surgeon who will do bands after bypass surgery. We have only one in Portland, Maine. My original surgeon doesn't. I am also about 25 lbs. from my original weight of 315. My husband also had bypass 2 years after me and he has gained it all back plus more. We dropped the weight VERY quickly and kept it off for a couple of years. Then...you know the rest. We both have always been able to eat more than they said we were suppose to. I am sure that over the years we've stretched our stomach or something. I just had a test the other day (scope down my throat) to see what things look like after 12 years. I don't know results yet since I haven't seen the surgeon. The thing that I don't like is that I am hungry every few hours. Nothings seems to stay with me anymore. I tend to graze all day which I know is wrong and bad for me. Things pass through to fast. Maybe because I drink to much, I don't know. I also feel like a big failure. I was given that wonderful opportunity to change my life and I couldn't even make that work. That makes me also feel bad about myself. I am hoping with a second chance and better support than what was available 12 years ago-I can make it work this time. Please share your story with me. Thanks. Brenda (MaineMom)
  10. Would like to talk with you about having a lap band after gastric bypass. Would you be willing to answer some questions for me? I had Gastric Bypass 12 years ago and am looking into having the band. Thanks, MaineMom
  11. I am new here for the same reason. I had a Gastric Bypass 12 years ago. I am looking into having the lap band now. I know that Casco Bay Surgery in Portland, Maine has a doctor that does it. I haven't had my appointment with him yet. If you called there they might know of a surgeon in your area. I was hoping to talk to others that have had lap band surgery after a failed bypass or a bypass several years ago. I had to have a procedure done (think it is called a ENG or END) which is a scope down my throat into my stomach to see what it looks like now. Just had it done on Friday and waiting for next appt. I emailed Walter Lindstrom. He is an attorney that specializes in denials from insurance for WLS. He had a bypass several years ago, gained most of it back and then had a lap band. He didn't reply to my email as of yet. I guess he is doing great with it though. I am not sure. So if anybody knows anybody that has had lap band after bypass I sure would like to talk to them. Thank you.
  12. You are very lucky to be alive! 26 years ago!! I thought 12 years ago was a big deal. Things have changed so much since then. The support is so much better now-I think that has alot to do with it. I didn't have one problem with the gastric bypass. I dropped weight quickly and felt pretty good other than being a bit amenic. Over the years I put on a few pounds here and there and now I am almost back to where I started. You had such a terrible time so I am sure it is hard to judge the pros/cons of having a lapband after bypass. Can you tell me about what it is like for you now? Do you know of anybody else out there that can relate to my situation?
