Good morning , you can try buying a baby plate that keeps the food warm. I understand your frustration and I like your solution. My son needs gastric surgery but he says the VA has shut down the program since the pandemic, he lives in Virginia. Now I am wondering why he can’t start the program he is close to 400lbs. Sorry for getting off topic. thanks for any suggestions about who he needs to contact in the VA.

Hi, I am 5 wks RNY post op. Let me start by saying I started this journey in 2009 getting a gastric band. My start weight was 275lbs, I’m 5’3. In 2014 I had a revision to a gastric sleeve because of esophageal distress. I had a hard time getting below 200LBS with both of this procedures. Once I was below 200 I hovered over 185-195. In 2019 I lost more weight and was down to 157lbs. My original goal weight was 175, hoping for 150lbs. In the fall on 2018 I stopped working due to heath issues and I didn’t apply for disability until the spring of 2019. As a result of this dramatic change I became depressed and shut in. Then the pandemic happened , I became more depressed, my weight just went through the roof. Although I still didn’t eat a lot I ate unhealthy. Durning this time you could get anything delivered to your door, I got up to 235lbs. I also began to have severe reflux. I went to see a GI doctor who ran tests and found that my reflux was very severe and my hiatal hernia was back and bigger. I had it fixed with the band surgery in 2009. Gi recommendation was to have a revision to a RNY. I had to go through the process all over again, nutrition, psychology and pre op diet. On March 7th 2023 I had my revision surgery. The surgery went well , it was a little longer due to difficulty repairing my hiatal hernia. Post op I had urine retention, I had to go home with a Foley catheter. That lasted for 3 weeks. So my last start weight was 235lbs, SW 219; now 207lbs. I am not losing any more weight for about two weeks. I am in the mushy/soft stage. I had a hard time at first getting enough fluids in and getting my protein goals. Protein was a challenge during the next stages because I couldn’t eat or drink a lot. The last week or so I had some foods not go down well, had some vomiting. Also had a problem with either dehydration or hypoglycemia in the morning if I don’t eat or drink something early; can’t wait to 10 or 11am which I am used to. Not a great feeling. Either I am not eating enough protein/food or I need to add exercise to my journey, I did join a gym. I know my weight loss will be slower than most people due to revision but I think I am in that can’t get below 200 funk. I still want to be healthy at 170lbs. The journey continues!! -
Hiatal hernia surgery before Gastric Bypass?
BLAKQUEEN replied to AmandaD.'s topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Good morning, I had my gastric bypass on March 7th, I had a hiatal hernia also. My surgeon did both in same operation. My hernia was also big it was the second time I had a hernia repair with WLS. First time was in 2009 when I had a gastric band it was also done in same surgery. Ask your surgeon why he wants to do it in two surgeries. Good luck -

Sleeve to Bypass due to REGAIN
BLAKQUEEN replied to TheRevisionedVagabond's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Hi, I am scheduled for sleeve to bypass in March. I Am doing this because of severe GERD but also I gain over 50 lbs. I had a revision from band to sleeve due to complications with the band. I stopped working in 2018, I was very depressed and I didn’t do anything. Then COVID and the isolation and depression caused me To go from 170 - 235. So basically I’m having surgery for the GERD and I am afraid of this surge. If I had been told about the reflux I probably would’ve had the bypass first. good Luck -

I also am waiting for a decision. I first had a lap band, which damaged my esophagus a little and I also had a hiatal hernia repaired then. I had a revision to a sleeve in 2014 because of my problems with the band. Now I have severe Gerd, just crazy bad. I had reflux before my first surgery due to my hernia. My hiatal hernia has returned and I also have an abdominal hernia. So now I need a bypass for the Gerd although during Covid I gained over 50 lbs. in 2019 I was at 157lbs now I am at 230. good luck -
Yes, I'm a year out and certain foods will cause this, usually high sugar or high fat. Ice cream and buttery foods!!!!

Sorry typing on tablet. I had bilateral knee replacement that summer. I gain back up to 240lb by the time of my revision last summer. My. Band had caused major problems with my esophagus, so I didn't have to wait to get removed. I am now fluctuating between 195lbs and 200lbs and my goal weight is 170lb. Ideal weight 150lb. Weight loss has been very slow, but I work 2nd shift and don't workout as often as I need to. Good luck

I did well, was out from work for 4 weeks. I did have a problem with whey protein, I could only tolerate soy protein. I. Was able to drink whey protein after my band surgery and before my sleeve. Starting at about 285lbs before the band in 2009, I can down to185lbs at the end of summer 2012. I had bilateral knee re

Band to Sleeve GRIPE...feeling down and frustrated :(
BLAKQUEEN replied to Just Lindsey's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm also a band to sleeve, my weight loss is also slow. Highest banded at 283 in 2009. I came down to 285lbs by the time of my bilateral knee replacement in 2012. I gained back up to 240lb at the time of my sleeve surgery last summer. I am now only fluctuating between 195lbs and 200lbs. So I feel your pain, I also have very slow weight loss. I also think that it would be better if I didn't work second shift and not have a stressful job. -
How long before you went back to work after your band to sleeve revision?
BLAKQUEEN replied to adnlyn's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I was out for four weeks, which was fine for me. You have to get used to diet it is a little different from your band diet. Good luck -
Hey unbroken 40, some doctors wait so that your stomach can heal. My doctor did it all in one surgery , but he did have issues with getting my stomach to cooperate. My surgeon was to also remove my gallbladder, but opted not to after the issue with stomach. I was glad that he was able to do it all in one surgery. Talk with your surgeon and others.

Hi all, I live in Philadelphia had my revision surgery at Temple Hospital. There support group meets at an inconvenient time for me. They meet once a month in the evening, I work in the evening and can't get away from my desk to attend. Wondering if anyone knows about a meeting that takes place in the mornings before 2:00pm or the weekend. Philadelphia south Jersey areas. Thanks Kim

@@LovetoDive and all Hi I am five weeks out still on pureed diet until tomorrow, then mushy to soft foods. I go back to work today and I am terrified that I will stress out at my desk, which makes me eat. I do have a plan and I know I will stick with it. I was also at my moms during my recovery where everything was easy for me to prepare my food. I have brought the tools I need. I live with my aunt and she makes the kitchen non approachable, working on that. Overall I feel great, went to the gym yesterday worked out for an hour, hard to go everyday due to transportation but that will get better. I have lost in all from pre-op until know is 32 lbs. Good luck ????

One surgery revision stories please!
BLAKQUEEN replied to laura71's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Hi I also had my procedure done in one operation, My surgeon also told me that he may have to remove the band and if there was too much scar tissue he would close and wait for my stomach to heal before doing the sleeve. Fortunately he was able to do it in one surgery even though he did run into a issue with my stomach not lying flat for him to do the sleeve. I also had a lot of scar tissue around my port which hurt more than my other surgery sites. I stayed in the hospital an extra day due to dehydration and low blood pressure. I wish my surgeon was doing this surgery 5 yrs ago when I got the band because I would have gotten the sleeve then. I just could not see myself getting a gastric bypass. Good Luck
