lipstix64 replied to laplass's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I was banded on Oct 16- had my first fill ast wednesday-dec 3rd and feel no restriction either, but haveing the willpower to stay on my diet has been good so far. I have lost 25 lbs so far. I have another fill on Jan 14 and am hoping it feels more restricted. I'm hoping my willpower holds out until then. -
100 Calorie snacks... Friend or Foe??
lipstix64 replied to blueyedprincess's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
These are definitely a FOE!!!! They are just bad food in small portions and you need the fat, sugar, carbs, and calories. Get yourself some healthy snacks like fruit or nuts and seeds. You know as weel as I that we should be eating that crap. It only leads to worse food choices. Please dont rry to justify by thinking they are only 100 calories. That kind of stuff is for school kids to ake in their lunch bags or skinny people who are satisifed with a "little taste" of bad food. Its not for people like us who have food addictions. Listen, every once in a while is ok. We're human. It wouldnt be normal to NEVER eat those foods again, but just occasionally. Hell, I have a family Christmas party SAturday and you can bet ur ass I'll be eating a little of everything, including dessert. But, Sunday I will be back on track. I know its hard, believe me. Good luck to you AND me!!! -
Call your doctor ASAP- is it very red and imflamed also? Sounds like it is infected.

I just had my first fill on wed, Dec 3rd. They told me to drink a cup of water in the office to make sure it went down ok. It did. I dont feel any restriction, dont get full after 1/2 cup of food and nothing gets stuck. I feel the tiniest bit of restriction, maybe, but other than that. I can eat what I want, not chew slowy, swallow big bites. I called doc and have another fill scheduled for this Friday. Am I jumping the gun too soon? Should I just wait till my "real" appointment on Jan 9th or should I go in for another fill. Does this have to kick in? Does it take a while to work. I see alot of posts that say that. Help me, please!!!!!

Dont believe that crap. You can watch the surgery on www.youtube.com . Just type in lap band. The doctor is not standing between your open legs. You are on an operating table, covered with two gowns and they open the gown to get to your stomach. I know how you feel. My docs were young an cute. But dont worry about it. Its not horrific and you wont be embarrassed. You will be asleep and not even realize when you went out, and feel like its over in no time. I was scared shitless for nothing. You will feel very dry when you wake up and feel like you have some pressure in your chest. Bring some chapstick and a pillow for the ride home. I went home same day about 6 hours later and was fine. You might feel pain in shoulder, arm, and neck. But that is all gas pains. You'll only feel sore where your incisions are, but that goes away quickly. Take your pain meds whether you need them or not. They will also help you sleep better. Make sure you walk as much as possible to prevent blood clots, like with all surgery. I felt hungry during the two weeks on liquids but was told its normal and just head hunger. Good luck- it will be over soon and you will be the one helping people to not be afraid. -
Pre Op fasting question please help
lipstix64 replied to thinkingslim70's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! You are told not to eat for a reason-Anesthesia!!!!.. You have to have an empty stomach, otherwise you can vomit and choke to death while you are under. Thats why you cant have any Water either or just a tiny sip when they give you the anti-nausea pill. My surgery was 8am and I couldnt eat or drink past midnite. What time is your surgery? Let me tell you a story- my friend husband was scheduled for surgery and asked a nurse( a stupid nurse)while at the hospital if he can have something to eat before and she told him yes. So, he ate. Then when being prepped for surgery he mentioned that he had eaten and they couldnt believe a nurse would give him this incorrect info. His surgery had to be re-scheduled because of it. As with any surgery, you cant eat before and usually after midnite the night before. You should really ask again about that.. I woulnt take any chances. Good luck. BTW, bring chapstick and a pillow for the ride home so the seatbelt wont bother you. -
I was banded on Oct 16th-lost 24 lbs so far, Wednesday was my first fill. Pa had me drink a cup of water to see how it felt. My band is 10cc and he put in 4cc. I am now on liquids until tomorrow, so no food yet. I dont feel any restriction, but I had creamy tomato soup yesterday and snuck in 2 small croutons. I kinda felt like something was a little stuck and annoying. Is that the feeling of restriction? I only had 2 small croutons! How is this gonna feel tomorrow at my christmas party when I can have solids again? I'm planning on having chicken. If the croutons felt weird, will I have a problem with the chicken? Also, will I feel full on small amounts of food or is it always gonna be this feeling of something stuck in there? :tongue2:

I just got my first fill yesterday- 4cc's in a 10cc band. I had to drink a cup of Water slowly to make sure I can keep it down with no porblem. I have to have shakes and liquids for 3 days, then onto mushies for 2 days and then back to solid foods. I dont feel any restriction yet, but I was told by my friend, who also has the band, that once we get to actual food , we will feel the differnce, as liquids go down very easily. My PA said that sometimes it take a while for the restriction to kick in. I'll try to be patient if you will. Good luck to us.

I just got banded on Oct 16th and am going thru the same thing. But, I;m not hungry really, just want to eat and definitely dont feel full at all. I have a first fill Wed of this week and cant wait. I have already lost about 22 lbs and I have varied my diet because I dont know how much to eat or what to eat. I have had vegetables, some brown rice, whole wheat bread. I also still have a shake with frosen fruit for breakfast and dinner cecause its easier than thinking about what I can eat. I cant wait ti get a fill so I can finally found out what this restriction or feeling of such fullness is like. So, dont worry. I feel your pain and know what youre going thru. Lets try to hold on till we get our fills. Good luck

OMG! I'm so sorry to hear that you went thru all that. But, please dont get discouraged. You obviously got stuck with an unscrupulous, unexperienced doctor. You will lose weight again. Just focus on getting better first. I dont know how you found this doctor, but for the next one, try searching for one that belongs to a Bariatric Surgery group. I'm sure on this site you will find somoene that comes from your area and can recommend a good one. I hope you have a speedy recovery and have the opportunity to find a good doctor that you can trust. Good luck!

Good luck tommorrow- bring chapstick and a pillow for rhe car ride home-seatbelt might bother you. -
Starvation mode isnt a myth, its a fact. I had spoken to many doctors about this. Your body uses its fat stores to hold on to. What is a myth is that starving yourself will help you lose weight. You need to comsume enough calories in order to survive and enough to burn off and still stay healthy. Also, kicking up and mixing up the exercise routine would help this person, otherwise it might be something else, in which case she might want to see her doctor or a specialist, such as an endicronologist.

I'm Italian, so I will give you an easy recipe withouy all the spice I use, but just as good: 1 28 oz can Cento crushed Tomatoes 3 cloves garlic crushed 1/2 tsp oregano 2 tbls olive oil 1 small onion-fine chopped Saute onion and garlic until soft and translucent in olive oil. Add tomatoes. Add Salt and pepper to taste. If sauce is bitter, add 1 teaspoon sugar. Let simmer on low for about 1/2 hour or so. If sauce is to thick, add a little Water until desired consistency and let simmer. This sauce will be better next day and you can freeze for a long time. Of course, in my real sauce, I would add basil, parmigiano reggiano, some red wine, and more olive oil. Good luck.

Just wanted to sya that you look fabulous and congratulations on your baby news.. I see you here answering alot of questions and you have been extremely helpful to everyone. I had my surgery oct 16 and due for a fill on dec 3rd. Right now I have no restrictions and am working solely on willpower and this is where it starts to wane. I have gone off track slightly, but have gone right bsck on and lost 20 lbs so far. But, I can eat regular foods and it scares me. I dont know what to eat. Can u give me an idea of what you have been eating that has produced steady weight loss? I would rather have 2 shakes per day and one meal, but my nutritionist doesnt recommend it. I would appreciate any ideas from you and anyone else. Thanks. -
Can anyyone give me the definitions of all the acronyms that are being used on this site? Some of them I just cant figure out. For instance, I know what PB means; PRODUCTIVE BURP. But what does DH stand for? Please someone let me know!!!!&*$##

I had Sushi the other night, with no problem. But then, I am not filled yet. I am getting a first fill on Dec 3rd. I had a Boston roll-it had shrimp and avacado, delish!

If you are only eating 1100 calories per week, you are not eating enough and have now put your body inot starvation mode. This means that since your are not getting the nutrition you need, your body is ow holding onto the fat it has stored in order to survive. Until you get yourself up to a normal calorie intake, you will not see weight loss.

Kareyquilts: Arms, Butt & Thighs, Oh My!
lipstix64 replied to kareyquilts's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
WE will never be cured of this food addiction. Its something we have to fight every day. I too get angry with myself and wonder why I cant eat like a "normal" person and just go about my business not thinking about food and what I'm gonna eat next. But we are food addicts, just like there are drug addicts, and alcoholics. I see a therapist to help me understand why I have this addcition and to help me be aware of when and why I want to eat. For me, I am an emotional eater. I eat when I'm bored, sad, angry. We just need to stop for a second, figure out why we're getting up to go into the kitchen and look for something to eat. I tend to eat when I'm thinking about my mother, whom I miss. It really is an unconcious thing antil I stop and realize that I'm looking for comfort from the food. It helps at the moment, then I am disgusted with myself. I know its hard and I do slip at times, but it is what it is. We have to try harder than other people, but it will be worth it. Good luck to us all. -
