think I got food stuck and Im happy
lipstix64 replied to marmar's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
LET ME EXPLAIN SOMETHING TO YOU. I EAT TOO FAST, TAKE BIG MOUTHFULS, AND DONT CHEW CHEW CHEW. BECAUSE OF THAT, MY BAND GETS FULL, NOT ME. I JUST CANT SEEM TO DO ALL THAT, SO I LIVE WITH THE FACT THAT I DONT GET THAT FULL, SATISFIED FEELING THAT YOURE SUPPOSED TO GET. IVE LOST ABOUT 85 POUNDS SO FAR IN ABOUT A YEAR AND LOOK AND FEEL GREAT. SO, IF U FOLLOW THE RULES, YOU WILL FEEEL "FULL AND SATISFIED" AND U WONT EXPERIENCE PAIN OR GETTING STUCK. HONESTLY, BECAUSE OF THE WAY I EAT, I RELY ON THE STUCK FACTOR. IT WORKS FOR ME. TO EACH HIS OWN. GOOD LUCK!:w00t: -

2nd fill and a horrible experience
lipstix64 replied to momamia's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What kind of doctor are you going to? Its time to change to someone who knows what they are doing. That is not how a fill is supposed to go. I lie down, my doc or PA feels for my port, has me do a little situp, inserts the needls, I feel a little pinch, hel fills me, and there is a little pressure when pulling out the needle. Its not traumatic or painful. Yours shouldnt be either. Find a new doc. Good luck!:w00t: -
2nd fill and a horrible experience
lipstix64 replied to momamia's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree with you. I never heard of that kind of incompetence before. It must be horrible. I dont drink anything, get no x-rays and feel a pinch, thats all. I think she should find a new doctor to do the fills. -
My sister considers lap-band surgery "cheating", and I am TICKED!

Amen, Sista! Sometimes, family or not, you have to get rid of bitter, jealous, negative people. -

People like this, whether they are family or not, should not be allowed to bring their negativity into our lives. Your sister sounds like a very sick person to punch you in the stomach. I have a sister with a lot of issues and because of that, she is stressing because of it. Just because they are family, doenst mean I have to tolerate that behavior. -
Spicy foods WONT be out after banding. I eat Hot and Sour soup all the time. Unfortunately for you, this is a problem. Maybe something was wrong with your band, because Ive never known anyone to have their band swell shut from soup. I can eat anything I want in moderation with no problem. Ive lost 84 lbs so far and going. Sorry to hear about your issue with spicy food, but it doesnt mean its gonna happen to everyone.

I eat everything, just cant eat alot of it. The band isnt a death sentence. I've lost 82 lbs since Last October and I, as well as everyone else can eat anything. Certaind things might not go down so well, but you learn as you go. :drool:Good luck.

Sorry to say this, but your sister is jealous of your success and and angry with herself for not doing it. She obviuosly has a lot of issues with her own weight and because you were brave enough to do what you had to do, shes having a hard time dealing with that. Talk to her about it, explain to her that u have the same struggles, but you chose this to feel better, look better, na have more self-esteem. Also assure her if she ever thought about having this surgery that you would be 100% behind her and support her all the way and that you would apprciate it if she did the same. My sister, believe me is a nut, is morbidly obese too, but I hafta say she tells me all the time how good I look. If this is cheating, I wish I cheated 5 years ago. Im so happy with my weight loss and no one can ever make me feel bad about why I did this. I dont give a shit what anyone says and u shouldnt either! Good Luck!:frown: -
Dont take this the wrong way, but it seems like your boyfriend is trying to sabotage your diet. Maybe he is feeling a little insecure about you losing weight and looking good. Thats understandable, but for him to bring home junk food knowing that its a struggle for you to resist it, seems really unfair to you. Why dont you sit him down and explain to him how this makes you feel and if he loves you and respects your wishes, he will eat his junk food somewhere other than your home. Which by the way, is unhealthy for him to binge as well on the weekends and that garbage isnt good for your 11 yr old to eat eaither. Good luck

Suggestion About A Good Protein Drink
lipstix64 replied to KRVAUGHAN20's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I use Isopure Perfect low carb in vanilla and chocolate. Its delicious. I add frozen berries. You can get it on www.vitaminshoppe.com. I pay 35 dollars. If you go to health food store, you will pay at least 50 to 60 bucks. -

Im gonna be blunt here. You should have told her to mind her own fuckin business and not be concerned with why u are having ANYTHING done. You didnt have to answer any of her questions. She had no right to interrogate you like that and you should have reported her. Maybe she should work on her relationship with her overweight daughter, cause with a mother like that, its no wonder the kid is overeating. Good luck!!!:cursing: -
What if i dont/cant do preop liquid diet?
lipstix64 replied to Jordangirl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I really dont think there would be "dangerous complications" if she didnt follow exactly what her surgeon told her. Otherwise, we all wouldnt have been given such various instructions on how to do it. Its not like anyone is telling her to have a last meal of cheeseburgers, fries, and a milkshake an hour before surgery. I had to lose 5% of my body weight in the months prior to surgery so that my liver shrank and made the surgery easier to get to my stomach. As far as sticking to a diet, you know as well as I do, how hard that is and thats why we need this surgery. Lets give her a break. We all went thru it and a little deviation from instructions wont hurt. Im doing great and celebrated a year last friday and have lost 82 lbs. She will do fine. Shes ready. -
What if i dont/cant do preop liquid diet?
lipstix64 replied to Jordangirl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I know everyone had different doctor orders on what do do, but I never had to do a liquid diet prior to surgery, other than 3 days before. I was allowed Cream Soups, Jellos, SF ice pops, etc 3 days before, clear soups and broths 2 days before, and the same for day before and no eating or drinking after midnite the day before surgery. After surgery, I couldnt eat solid food for two weeks, only 1 shake per day with SF ice pops, clear soups and broths. That was rough. But you get thru it. So, nothing will happen, but try to follow that liquid diet for 3 days prior like I did. I went to a well-known center in WHite Plains New York and they have been doing this surgery for over 10 years. I think they know what they are talking about. Good luck! -
Doctor should have taken out 1/2 cc

No offense, but what hell kind of place did u go to? I have never heard of any place treating a patient like this. Never was anyone I know of told that it could take up to a year for restriction or go to Weight watchers. Find a different place. Sounds to me like theya re takaing ur money for very small fills to keep you going back for more. You should stay in the office for a fill until you get enough od that fill. Try to gulp a cup of Water afterwards and see if u can keep it down. If ur gulping and water doesnt come back up, YOU AINT FILLED ENOUGH!!!!! HAVE THEM PUT MORE IN. IN THE MEANTIME, FIND ANOTHER PLACE !!!!

Hello. First of all, I was pissed off also. I'll tell you why. What you're going thru is call "Bandster HEll". Thats the feeling you have right about now after your surgery where ur hunger is back full strength. You have to use your willpower, but if u cant, so what!. I called my doctors when I felt my unbearable hunger coming back. It was right after surgery and all I was alloed to drink was ONE shake PER DAY!!!!! OMG!! I could also have broths, SF ice pops, soups, etc. What pissed me off is when they told me it was "head hunger". I told them "Bullshit", this is real hunger and anyone who drinks one shake per day, wheher you're fat or skinny will be hungry". :yikes: Head Hunger, my ass! You're due for your first fill soon. Now, dont think the first fill will do the trick. Sometimes, it doesnt. Sometimes it does. It took 3 fills before I felt restriction. But, here I am, almost a year later and dow 82 pounds. Believe me, the time flies and so will the pounds. What you are feeling is normal. Try to ride it out. Its something we all have to do. Good luck!

How do you feel after your fills?
lipstix64 replied to thebandedgirl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Listen after you get your fill, drink a glass of Water, kinda of gulp it. If you cant keep it down or it feels like its still in your throat, then ur good. Stay there until you fininsh the water ansee how your fel. if you have no probls gulping water and keeping it down, then u are ot filled enuff!!! -
Youre going thru bandster hell which is the weeks after surgery when the swelling around your stomach goes down and hunger comes back. You havent been filled yet during surgery or a little put in . Once you get a fill, you will not be so hungry and sometimes the fill takes 2 or 3 times before you feel the effects. Its normal. Fornow, its ALL willpower. Something we all lack. Good luck!

What about asking your docs to up your BMI? Or, do you have any co-morbidity issues, like High Blood Pressure or Diabetes, shortness of breath, Heart Murmur? I as denied by Aetna at first thinking that they just denied me because they didnt want to cover it. But, it turns out I was denied because the initial doctor I picked was out of my network. I didnt know that was the reason. I jsut assumed I was denied because they didnt want to cover the surgery. I called back months later to find this out. I chose another doctor in my plan and had the surgery on October 16th, 2008. Have your insurance person at the docs office keep pushing until you are approved. My office sdoes that and gets alot of approvals that way. Good luck. PS- Ive lost 82 pound so far!

What will I not be able to eat???
lipstix64 replied to purple3797's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Its very worth it. Im coming up on my year anniversary on October 16th and have lost 82 lbs. I have about 40 pounds to go. I was scared, with no reason to be. Surgery went great, I healed fast and I can eat anything. Some foods you will tolerate better than others. Do it! You will be so glad u did!. Good luck!!! -
Im sorry to had to hear that crap from those workers. You definitely should have said something to them to let them know you understood what they said. I would have also gone to the neighbors to let them know what their laborers are doing. But, dont let it get you down, let it make youi more determined to take care of business. Good luck to you.
