How Much is Normal (Food Intake Question)
Angie C replied to NeenBand's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
You should be eating around 1200 calories aday. If you are eating too much, you need to have a fill. Most 1st fills are given after 5 or 6 weeks after surgery. 3-15-04 -114lbs goal -

Welcome to Texas I was banded 3-15-04 by Dr. Jayaseelan in Dallas. He offers a support group once amonth which has helped my reach my goal. If your doctor does not offer a support group you are always welcome to Dr. Jay's. The reason I was banded was when I went to his seminar and Dr. Jay told me that I would never have to diet again, I knew this was for me. I have lost 110lbs eating ice cream, candy and whatever my heart desires. I just eat alot less. Try to get the diet mentallity out of your mind. Know it's going to be a slow journey and embrace that you should not gain the weight back. If the weight starts to come back, you can get a fill. The wonderful thing about the band is that it is adjustable. You should go into this with a postive mind. If you think it's going to fail and your going to fail, it will and you will. We have been on every diet and this is our last resort, gaining and losing, losing and gaining. That's why most of us have had the band. DO NOT BE AFRAID. Think of it as your never going to be fat again or gain another pound. BE POSITIVE There's alot of support (positive) out there. Enjoy the journey.

Hi Christie I was also banded by Dr. Jay and live close to Waco. A support group has been started in Waco. We had our first meeting 5-9-06. Only two of us showed up but hoping more and more will show. I was banded 3-15-04 over 2 years now and have reached my goal. I go to Dr. Jays support group meetings in Dallas, but I hope this one in Waco will get going. You can call Dr Jay's office, talk to Holly about the details about the support group. We maybe changing the location for the June meeting. So welcome and I hope to see you at one of the meetings. -110lbs goal

You know your band is working when you can't EAT the WHOLE THING. with fries. It's working when you have to share a meal with someone or take 1/2 of it home. It's working when you can walk away from that full plate with out feeling guilty or your no longer going to the buffet because you can't eat enough to justify in paying full price. These are some examples of when you know your band is working. 3-15-04 -110lbs goal

Looking for Expert Guidance and Wisdon

Try some gaterade and chewable Centrum Vitamins. Get you a milk shake. Sonic has some great drinks. Try some cream type Soups. Fudgecicles or popcicles. There are alot of liquids beyond Protein shakes. You need to get up and move, laying around causes you to have less energy and feel depressed. Try to drink something every 2 hours or as needed. These first 6 weeks are for healing so don't think about dieting. 3-15-04 -110lbs goal -
Eating and drinking at the same time can definitely do it. You should wait to drink at least 30 min after you eat. And could it be all "the grease" in that fried food. 3-15-04 -110lbs goal

Melanne First, I am sorry your doctor did not do his job informing you of what to expect. Second, You are not eating right. You are eating only 400 calories aday. You should be eating 1000-1200 calories aday as you progress. Your first 6 weeks is strickly for healing not losing. After you get a fill or more depending on your body, the weight loss will come. There is alot of help out there. See if your doctor has a support group and if so go, go, go. There are support groups out there, you just need to find one. Third, Having this attitude only a few weeks after surgery, you may need to get some professional help. 3-15-04 -110lbs goal without dieting

Does the way restriction feel change over time?
Angie C replied to giveyouthemoon's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Your restriction will change through out the month. Alot depends on stress, aunt flo, or even the loss of weight. You could be tight one day and then not be the next. If you continue to be loose for a week or two, it could be time for a fill. Remember, you do lose fat around your organs. So give it a little time. 3-15-04 -110lbs goal -
After your surgery your stomach is swollen and healing but after you heal it is at normal size so you do not have any restriction (normally, there are a few exceptions). So you will feel hungry and able to eat like before. It may take several fills before you feel any restriction. I had 4 fills (3.5cc) before I hit my sweet spot. I had to wait 6 weeks for my first fill but do not rush it, your insides are healing from the surgery. 3-15-04 290/176 goal

This was the best decision I have ever made. I do not regret it not even once even though I have had a slip or food getting stuck or the times throwing up. For me it's just part of the process and now I am thin and loving life, a life that I have not know since high school. 3-15-04 290/176 goal

Chew Some Gum When You Are Having These Feelings
-
Photonut you are right about the hunger. I eat every 3 hours or so, I am a grazer not 3 meals aday. Which has helped alot. I cannot eat enough at a meal to last 5 or 6 hours. So eating often has help with not getting hungry and trying to overeat 3-15-04 -114-lbs

My husband gets Lap-Band in 2 weeks - Pls Help
Angie C replied to missphnx's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Your husband should be on liquids only before surgery. No meats or solid foods. This will help with his surgery like Alexandra said "to help shrink his liver". You should have a minimum of 60 grams of Protein aday according to my doctor. I also travelled to Spain 2 weeks after my surgery and I had no problem with lots of walking and site seeing. I was driving 3 days after surgery. There is absolutley no reason to be scared just stick with soups and easy on the stomach foods. 3-14-04 -110lbs goal -
I do not know a doctor in Houston but Dr. Jayaseelan in Dallas takes this insurance. My daughter has the UHC and only had to pay her deductibles. 3-15-04 -114lbs

My husband wanted me to ask this.
Angie C replied to MiaHalliwell's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
You can tell your husband that I have lost 114lbs with very little exercise. I am new to this site but the other site that I entered almost daily for the first year helped me with my weight loss. The questions that I had were answered and I was hopefully able to help new ones as well. The people on these sites have the same experiences that our spouses or family members who are not banded could ever understand. So a little time on these sites can and are very helpful. 3-15-04 290/176 Dr. Jay -
Poll: How do you get fills?
Angie C replied to Wheetsin's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
With my first fills I had a local to numb me up but my last two fills I had no local and it did not hurt or did I hear anything. For me it was less painfull without the local. 290/176 goal 4-15-06 -

What is the best thing about your weight loss?
Angie C replied to tinaj's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
It's amazing how people treat you. They were nice before but now they go overboard to be extremely nice. The compliments are great and hard to accept after all the years of self-hate. Buying clothes is a little overwhelming, before I would go to the large section with a little choice now I can go to any store but it takes hours to find something, so many choices. I eat what I want without worrying about what others are thinking or commenting about the choices I have made. It's a new world with great experiences. 290/176 goal 4-15-04 Dr. Jay Dallas -
Lookin for LOTS of information!!!
Angie C replied to Beaglebragade1's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Go to texaslapbandcenter.com for a video from Dr. Jayaseelan. He is a very good doctor. If you live close to Dallas, he has a seminar once a month. Support group meetings once a month. He now has all the fill equipment in his new office. He has a very good support staff for you before and after surgery. 4-15-04 290/176 goal Dr. Jay -
Help! I've had 1 fill still no restriction.
Angie C replied to SRaeM's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
It took me 4 fills in a 4cc band before I felt real restriction. Get a fill and if that does not work, get another until it does. 290/176 goal Dr. Jayaseelan -
My doctor told me that the first 6 months you will learn what you can and cannot eat and learning how to eat as well(slowing down and chewing good). I was so used to putting food in my mouth and never tasting it, two chews and down it goes. It also took 4 fills before the hunger feeling really went away (3.5ccs). Most of the time one fill does not do it. Do not feel like a failure. You have just had surgery and it will probably take time to lose this weight. Make it a journey, keep a journel, take your measurements and Celebrate you milestones ( whatever that maybe for you) Also go to support group meetings if they are avalible to you. 3-15-04 290/176 goal

I was also banded at SCOR 3-15-04. Keep a postive attitude, be excited and the staff will take very good care of you. After the they give you your happy juice right before surgery, nothing else will matter anyhow. Dr. Jayaseelan 290/176 goal -114lbs
