What kind of scale do you have? Is it accurate?
Elisabethsew replied to sleepyjean's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I think it says, "Get off... you're killing me." LOL -

Elisabethsew replied to sleepyjean's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I needed a new scale and someone here suggested the XL440 that actually talks and measures your weight to the tenth of a pound. It should arrive in 4-5 days and was $49.50. -
Alex and Penne. I know you've taken quite a few "hits" on the board over the past few weeks so I wanted to let you both know that MANY members realize how tough your job is and appreciate your hard work and dedication to the goals of this forum. Alex is lucky to have you both. So, thank you and hang in there. Better days are coming.

You'll be swollen for several weeks so don't worry... it's definitely not weight gain. Focus on healing.

I have come to realize that trolls (no matter what you call them) exist in real life as well as the Internet. We've seen evidence of that. How one chooses to deal with trolls is the true measure of a person.

Sorry, Dody. I'm not going to feed your hatred so please enjoy your Memorial Day and take care of your knee and carotid blockages. I truly do wish you well and hope all works out well. -

Elisabethsew replied to Rett's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My reason for losing weight is real simple. I want to enjoy life rather than let life pass me by. I have allowed my weight to side-line me from so many things over the years and I'm simply not going to live the rest of my life that way. When you have your health you may not have everything but you're certainly in the best position to go after what you want. -
What you'll generally find is, the higher the price, the lower the size you'll wear. The designers will blame "cuts" and "designs" but I always wear a size or two less in more expensive clothing. Bottom line... try it on before you buy.

Thanks, Leatha, that makes perfect sense. Yes, Dody, you are entitled to your opinions and you've certainly drummed it into this thread. To everyone CELEBRATING Memorial Day, enjoy! -
So what happens during the supervised diet?
Elisabethsew replied to HunnyBun's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Most insurance companies want 6 months of a supervised diet. Insurance companies view "supervised" as a diet plan that requires "weekly weight checks" by an MD. Sometimes the MDs give you a printed diet to follow and sometimes they send you to a registered dietician (anyone can call themselves a nutritionist). What insurance companies want (or don't want) to see is that you are unable to maintain a weight loss on a medically supervised diet. If you can lose a lot of weight and keep it off, they won't pay for the lapband surgery. -
Vicodin has many weird side effects and it's a good idea to get off of it as soon as you can. I took it one day post-op and then switched to extra-stength liquid Tylenol which worked just as well. Vicodin will also "slow down" the internal plumbing so make sure you're drinking plenty of water and getting up and walking frequently.

It's ALWAYS easier to criticize how a person does a job... especially when it's not a job that you do. Alex and Penne don't get paid and they have to abide by the rules of the owner... as I understand it, that's a person called Alex. It's not fun to log onto a "support" board and see all the insults and bickering. Imagine how difficult it is to be a moderator who not only sees all this going on, but also gets private messages, alerts, public insults, etc. It's not a job many people would do for money let alone for nothing. Alex and Penne worked together and adressed the concerns. It's sad to think that because action was taken at the crack of a whip they are being dragged through the mud. Bottom line... the problem WAS dealt with so let's stop beating a dead horse. Instead of bitching and moaning, let's focus on MEMORIAL DAY and all those who lost their lives fighting for our freedom. -
That sounds like a z-pack. Take that as directed. As long as your fever does not go over 101.5 you should do OK. Take the Motrin for the pain and inflammation. If you're sensitive to Motrin, take some tylenol (850 mg).

Did you take a double dose of the antibiotic? That is becoming the preferred treatment for the FIRST dose of an antibiotic to spike the blood levels and attack the organism (bacteria). If you are feeling a lot worse, you might want to go to the ER for an IV dose of an antibiotic.

What's so good about Krispy Kremes?
Elisabethsew replied to Jachut's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I had a Krispy Kreme donut several years and thought I'd go into a sugar induced coma. LOL. Those things are sooooooo sweet. I'll pass. -
Some MDs do allow lean Protein but it's best to call the office and explain that you're not satisfied on the prescribed diet. Rather than having you risk "blowing" the pre-op diet or binging, they usually allow you to make modifications. I don't think you did any damage.

First of all, Welcome! You've come to a place where you'll find a lot of great information. I have a heart condition and my cardiologist was all for this surgery. Many diabetic patients have this surgery. My best male friend had it in July of last year and is now off Insulin. Knowledge is power and I would suggest you read a lot of the threads on this board and compile a list of questions for your MD. Go to informational meetings and listen to the experiences of others. I had the surgery 8.5 weeks ago and did fine despite my heart condition and the fact that I had pulmonary emboli (blood clots in both lungs) early this year. You're not losing your mind. You're just faced with a big decision and need time to sort it all out. That's why you're here.
