Dr. Aceves told me to stick with 3 meals a day of solid protein to get used to living as a sleeved person and discouraged protein shakes. I don't get in 60-70 grams of protein but I had blood work done today and all is good.

For those that went to Dr. Aceves...

I was told banks charge 3% if you use the credit card by Yolanda. -
Weight goal charts are made up by insurance companies. MD's use a simple formula for woman which is 100 pounds for 5 feet and 5-8 pounds per inch over 5' depending on frame. I put 135 as a goal just for the heck of it. I take it 10 pounds at a time and figure when I look in the mirror and like what I see, THAT will be my goal weight.

Scars and remedies
Elisabethsew replied to Malaika's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Several plastic surgeons have told me the creams for scars don't work and that the best therapy is preventative... keep them out of direct sun. -

I never had diarrhea post-op. What are your concerns in asking this question? -

Regardless of the WLS you decide on, we're all here to support one another as we move towards a healthy way of eating and living. I look forward to hearing your experiences with RNY.

Baking is a passion but I like "real" food (LOL) to be simple to prepare. You can get snack size cups of pineapple tidbits in it's own juice in the grocery store (4 to a pack). If you mix one of these with 2 tablespoons of sweet n sour chinese sauce and add some peppers (or whatever else you like) you can use it to create Hawaiian chicken, shrimp, beef, etc. The extra keeps in the fridge for a week. It's also a great marinade. An easy dessert is to take the 60 calorie fat-free jello pudding cups and freeze them. They taste like ice-cream and take longer to eat. Grapes are also good frozen.

Jaffa's Wife Going For Surgery

She's going with her fiance. He's getting sleeved. -
You got that right. He drove to the hospital himself and came alone on his last admission... NOT good.

Farrah Fawcett and Michael Jackson both died today. Farrah's battle with anal cancer has been well documented and reports of her declining health made it clear that she would die soon. Michael Jackson's death came as a shock. I have my own opinions on what type of person he was and firmly believe the abuses he suffered as a child molded the adult he became. What can't be denied is his talent and the influence he had on pop culture. I feel very sorry for his 3 children.

Dr. Aceves :-)

We're all hoping everything goes well for you. Congratulations on your new life and let us know how you are when you're able to post. -
My weight didn't budge for 3 weeks so don't worry about the scale. Once you get used to solids you'll see it move down. I have never gotten in the 60-70 grams of protein and I don't worry about it. My bloodwork is all perfect and I healed fine. I hate all the high protein drinks so I stick to the soy slender drinks and the Atkins Protein Bars when I need to supplement my diet. What you can try is something WasA does; grazing. Instead of sticking to 3 meals a day, try eating every 2-3 hours. That way, you'll be able to take in more food and meet your nutritional requirements.

Sometimes they use an endoscope in place of a bougie but I can't think of why that would be 2K since it sterilized and used again. I am confused. LOL.

Jaffa's Wife Going For Surgery
Elisabethsew replied to Jaffa's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I went alone and everyone else there had someone with them so it was a bit lonely. The other patient will definitely appreciate you being there. -
You should definitely ask for an explanation. I'm not familiar with you health care system but I'm sure you can check what other surgeons charge.

Welcome and congratulations on your success. We all look forward to seeing your new body!

Welcome and thank you for posting. Your rheumatoid antigen (RA) can be elevated for a variety of reasons. That test is not very specific so it's good you're getting it checked out.

I've always enjoyed cooking and I'm famous for my baking. LOL. Since I am always busy, I prepare meals in advance when I find sales. For example, buy one/get one free chicken cutlets is a great sale. I buy several pounds and then spend a few hours cooking them and portioning them out to freeze. When I don't have the time or feel like cooking, I take something out of the freezer, add a steamed veggie, and I'm all set. I too gave up all fast food about 8 years ago and this method prevent me from having an excuse to go to them.

Please any help / advice would be greatly appreciated! Newly post-op
Elisabethsew replied to photogirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Everyone is different. Some people question whether or not they had surgery. I must have had a lot of swelling post-op because it was tough getting liquids down. Once you get to the soft phase of eating you might feel full faster but, as Mac said, solids are the real test. Don't worry, what you're feeling and experiencing is normal. -
LOL. I can drive to Billy Joel's house and only know the nice side of him.

When I weighed 440 pounds, I ate nearly all my meals out. To lose weight, I decided to work on one meal at a time and started with breakfast using a substitution method. Instead of 2 bagels with butter and jelly, I had one and sustituted melon or berries for the second one. When that became routine, I kept the berries and substituted cereal for the bagel. It got to the point where I was eating just fresh fruit for breakfast and then I moved onto lunch. The one thing I hated about the band was that it did NOT allow me to eat healthy. Heartburn and reflux ruled my life and healthy foods seemed to aggravate that condition. Now that the band is out of me, I am enjoying eating all the foods that I could not tolerate and am back to healthy eating. I eat out about once a week and cook all the rest of my meals so I have control of the ingredients. I am loving the sleeve and feel like I got the quality back in my life.

Lap Band vs Sleeve
Elisabethsew replied to attitudefree's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I ordered a tuna fish sandwich on rye with lettuce at a diner. I ditched the bread and ate the tuna and the lettuce of one half the sandwich and brought the other half home.
