Now that things are dying down, wouldn't it be best not to bring this up?
-
503 and Pam, thank you for voicing your opinions.

You're getting adequate protein and it's wise to take the supplements but do you eat any solids? Does your surgeon keep you on a liquid diet for an extended period of time? You're progress is wonderful!

Is there a psychologist in the house?
Elisabethsew replied to mercedes's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Yes, professional help would help. What was done to you long ago involved a violation of your body and your psyche. By keeping yourself overweight and preventing yourself from getting to goal, you create a safety net of keeping your body safe from the violation you suffered years ago. You're special and you matter and you deserve to work through this so PLEASE take the first step and call a professional. -
The discomfort is likely due to two reasons: 1. gas 2. the position you were in lying on a hard surface in the operating room Don't hesitate to take the pain medication the first few days. It helps to keep you moving. Welcome!

I don't live in your area but I wanted to welcome you.

Hi Nathalie, I have severe iron deficiency anemia. It was discovered in 2001 when I had my gallbladder out and I've been on ferrous sulfate 325 mg twice a day since then. During the time since then, my iron levels have waxed and waned but never reached normal. I was banded 5 months ago today and my levels are now so low I am beginning intravenous infusions on Sept. 8. I will have one infusion a week for 8 weeks and then see where my levels are and go from there. I am surprised your MD only told you to take one pill a day. The normal dose is at least two times a day. The reason you take it with vitamin C is to promote absorption of the iron. It's VERY important to NOT take the iron within an hour or two of taking calcium foods because calcium reduces the absorption of iron. I knowthis is very discouraging for you but you seem to already be looking on the bright side. Two months from now you're iron levels will be nice and high.

Another newcomer: try again
Elisabethsew replied to Mari's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
1. Do you feel the LB once it has been 'installed'? I mean, besides not being able to eat much, can you actually sense it there all the time? The port incision was the most sore for the longest amount of time but no, I don't know it's there if I am not eating. 2. Can you feel the portal under the skin? Yes, it's a round, hard texture that can be palpated with your fingers. 3. Do any of the above stop you from doing any physical activities? My surgeon advised no heavy lifting for 6 weeks and then no restrictions. 4. How do you cope mentally/emotionally with the changes? I know for a fact that I will have to work hard at changing my relationship with food: no more comfort eating, a complete life change. Don't look at the "big picture." Instead, make small changes and before you know it, you'll be living a more healthy lifestyle. Best of luck to you and feel free to ask any questions as they arise. -
That was GREAT! I hope you treated your wife to a night out once you felt better and the black eye subsided.
-
The Good (GREAT): The improvement in my health and activity levels. The Bad: Eating too fast or not chewing enough and suffering the consequences. The fill process and being patient until restriction is felt and maintained. The Ugly: I haven't told anyone but 2 close friends so I can't answer this part.

One ounce of food 3 times a day doesn't seem like it's enough to meet your nutritional requirements. Can you schedule a meeting with the nutritionist to go over your food plan? Best of luck on fill #2.

Inamed ... How many fills?
Elisabethsew replied to antivicky's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm going to see my surgeon on the same day as you for another fill. My MD requires liquids the day of the fill, soft food for the day after and then back to solids. You're right, it does seem like the USA surgeons are more rigid in their dietary requirements. Good luck to you on the 7th... post how it went. -
Is anyone else losing their hair??
Elisabethsew replied to truckinmama's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Have you had your iron levels checked? Do you take any vitamins? Iron saturation and ferritin levels determine if you're iron deficient. I tried the Nioxin but did not find it did anything noticable. Congratulations on your great weight loss. -
Best of luck to you for an uneventful surgery and a smooth recovery.

There are several pregnant bandsters on this forum who can best answer your questions. One source of vitamins, protein, and calcium are fortified cereal like protein fortified Special K (10 grams of protein in a serving). Congrats to you and your hubby!

GOT a cold 1 week prior to surgery
Elisabethsew replied to SLHarrison's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Most surgeons won't operate if you're sick or have had a recent illness. the best thing to do is call the surgeon's office and follow his/her instructions. -
Congratulations! You must have felt wonderful. Good luck to your son in the game.

WOW. This was an "attack?" If you read my original and subsequent posts, it was most certainly NOT an attack. However, if you see it that way, I'm sorry. I thought differing points of views could be openly expressed but once again, it black or white. So, it's definitely time for this thread to die and you most certainly (and expected) to have the final word. Again, to those who agreed with my point of view and got negative responses, I truly am sorry. I'm out of here...
-
I'm very sorry that I posted this thread "in the wrong place" and that many of the thread killing people took offense to a polite request to curb (not eliminate) the cheese thread killing. People were afraid they would be "attacked" if they expressed their views in a thread with this topic and I can now see that their fears were justified. All I wanted to do was express a DIFFERENT point of view. You see thread killing as getting the board back on topic and as a peace keeping mission. Others don't see it that way. Can't we just agree to disagree? Again, I regret starting this thread and if you want to give anyone flack for not posting in the correct place (wherever that is) please direct it to me and not to others who share my opinion.

Anyone here? Need immediate response PLEASE
Elisabethsew replied to NewSho's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I would think the amazing progress you've had is proof positive that success can be achieved with the band. -
Thank you. I appreciate you being able to see another (not better) point of view.
