As long as you check with your MD, I suppose this procedure is fine. For anyone with heart problems, you can alter your fluid and electrolyte balance so be careful. The body rids itself of toxins via two primary routes... feces and urine. Once you "clean" out, you're back to baseline is less than a week.

Welcome! There's a lot of good information here. -
Small frequent meals rather than 3 full ones a day, not eating for 2 hours before going to bed and acid blockers (Nexium, Prevacid, Pepcid, Zantac, etc.) all help.

I take about 14 pills a day and have never had a problem swallowing them. My surgeon told me as long as the pill is less than the size of a dime, it's fine to swallow them. Remember, you can't open, crush, etc., any medication that is enteric coated (dissolves in small intestine), long acting, sustained release, etc.

Congratulations on your success.

Hi Vivian, We have the same surgeon. On your first post-op visit you will be seen by Dr. Geiss. He will weigh you, check your incisions and answer any questions. After that, you're done and will schedule a 2nd appt. for your first fill.

WOW... 5 weeks of fluids is a long time. I give you credit for doing it. I am now 5 months out and had a hard time getting restriction. I am going on 9/7 for my check-up and another small fill as #3 has lessened quite a bit. You're right about it being able to slip back to old habits but we went through a lot and have to work through the bad habits. You're doing great.

Unfortunately, society screams at us everyday that thin is in and fat is not where it's at. It's sad that we become conditioned that we're not good enough. Just remember, you ARE special and you DO matter and people who matter see that... no matter what your wieght registers.

I enjoy the Smart Choice 100 calorie pack of popcorn when I get the occasional desire to have pepcorn. It goes down fine and the one small bag satisfies my desire. I don't get a chance to see movies with work and school but Water and a 100 cal snack pack sounds good.

Safe for "last meal"?, & post surgery question
Elisabethsew replied to JamesA's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I was advised, "the less food in your GI system, the easier the surgery" so I stuck to the 6 days of full fluids and one day of clear fluids. -
Fluouroscopy..whats the difference?
Elisabethsew replied to ginger's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
People have answered your question very well here. The only thing I would add is that flouroscopy IS an x-ray so each time you will have minimal exposure to radiation. -
Great advice, Sue. The drama reminds me of the cruelty children can show when they attack another child for being fat (something I experienced). The sad thing is, these people can't blame it on childhood innocense. They INTENTIONALLY hurt one another.

I knew that the status of my unhealthy life was getting worse and made the decision to seek surgical intervention. For health reasons and existing medical problems, I opted for the least invasive and so far, have no regrets.

You hit the nail on the head... dead center. -
Yes, it does get easier after surgery as you gradually move towards solid foods. Most people choose lapband because you don't lose weight via malabsorption like it other weight loss surgeries... no manipulation of the GI tract. It's also a reversible surgery. As for not understanding the posts... avoid the drama and stick with posts that are specific to lapbanding and support.

I take a multi-vitamin, a B-complex, vitamin C, calcium, and folate. If your surgeon works with a nutritionist, give that person a call.

Just banded 8/30 and Nauseous
Elisabethsew replied to wife support's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Some people are very sensative to anesthesia and it can take a few days to completely get it out of your system. Taking prescription pain meds can make it worse. There is a new drug called ZOFRAN sub-lingual 4 mg. You take it and put it under your tongue and it dissolves with no bad taste. Your MD could call a Rx in for your wife. If she continues to vomit today... call the surgeon. -

YESSSSSSSSSSSS!!! I'm so happy to hear your surgeries were successful and that you're on the road to a healthy life. Make sure you get lots of rest and allow yourself to heal. -
While I'm sure no malice is intended, I would like to respectfully request that the self-appointed thread killers call a hault to all the cheese banter. I know the intention is to "break the tension" in threads where tempers are flaring but the intention is not accomplishing its purpose. In fact, it's causing more problems than it's solving. Since I have been on this forum, I have received a total of 6 private messages. Today, I received 15! The tone of all the PMs were related to the "thread killing group and the reason they were sent in a PM is because people are afraid to go up against this group in "public" for fear of starting another war. If I am totally off base and the majority of posters enjoy the cheese thread killing, please disregard this message. I hope I have not offended anyone as that was not my intention. I just think it's best to bring things out into the open so problems can be shared, discussed, and solved before they become wars or before people decide to leave. Thank you for listening and (hopefully) understanding.

Photonut, I think it's very nice that you and others have a friendship with Penni. Many of us have no idea what the bigchick (I think that's the name) incident was about that involved Penni and Lisa or Delarla, etc. However, most of us are not friends with moderators. We don't spend that amount of time on the forum to be able to generate these friendships. We see moderators as peace keepers, diplomats, guides who model the behavior of the mission of the forum. We need to be able to trust them. Penni publically admitted and apologized that she did in fact interact to some degree with this Lisa, Delarla, etc. person for the express purpose of targeting a certain forum member. Based on that confession, some people (check the moderator locked thread for specifics) expressed that they felt Penni should step down as moderator because they lost trust and respect in her. Thus began the "discussion" that led to taking sides that led to Penni's friends "lightening the mood" by the cheese talk. You are correct in your assumption that many new people saw the "invasion of the thread killers" as playing moderator and because it was a group of people, individuals were afraid to "speak up." Since I started this thread (and regret doing so) I want to publically thank you, Dawg, Funny, and everyone else for seeing an alternative (not better) interpretation to the purpose of thread killing. I don't think any of you need to apologize because I KNOW none of you had a hurtful intent and it's nice to see things calming down. Sincerely,

Thank you, you're a very wise lady... and I truly mean that sincerely.
