Esophageal Manometry
Elisabethsew replied to To be free's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Different surgeons require different pre-op testing. For the esophageal test, you're required to have nothing to eat or drink after midnight the night before the test. Most testing of this type is done with sedation... a small IV and they push the medication through the IV line. It takes less than 10 minutes and you feel nothing. -
I flunked my Psych eval...Anyone else have this problem?
Elisabethsew replied to Ara's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Do you see a psychiatrist who prescribes your meds? If you do, your surgeon (and insurance carrier) might accept a letter from him/her saying your OK to have the surgery. Call the surgeon's office and ask. You are NOT the first one to fail the exam and I'm sure they have a plan B. -
Surgery Scheduled - Misc. Questions
Elisabethsew replied to caramia71's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Welcome and congratulations on the upcoming surgery. I could only sleep on my back for the first week or so. Surgeons usually advise not tanning during healing as it can cause hyperpigmentation of the scar tissue. -

Hi, First posting-surgery sched. 3/25/08

Welcome and congratulations on your upcoming surgery. If you're finding it hard to stick to the pre-op diet, call your surgeon's office. Sometimes they give you one or two foods to have in moderation that make all the difference. Read a lot of posts here and ask questions. We look forward to having you. -
By the eighth day after a fill you should be able to tolerate a normal diet. You might want to give your surgeon's office a call in the AM and check in with them.

Welcome and congratulations. It's wonderful that you're doing this as a couple. Many members have used your surgeon so read the posts and you'll learn a lot.

Welcome and congratulations on your decision to have the surgery. Read a lot of the post here and you'll learn a lot. -
The next time you go for a fill INSIST on a different person. The maximum should be twice before getting another person to try. I have had fills with and without the novacaine and was stuck twice for the first fill and once for all the rest.

That flu is going around. I'm glad to hear you're feeling better. Make sure you rehydrate yourself after that ordeal. -
Now THAT made me laugh out loud. Nice analogy.

Blood thinners and the lap band surgery
Elisabethsew replied to toomuchsusie59's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I had pulmonary emboli in both lungs and was on Coumadin. I stopped taking Coumadin 3 days prior to surgery and then took Lovenox injections for 3 days post-op. I went back on Coumadin the day after surgery. -
I can't take credit for this because someone else posted it a long time ago. Eating 10-12 raw almonds a day does the trick. Once I started eating them, I had no problems plus it's got some protein. Of course, you need to make sure you stay hydrated as well... especially whenever you increase fiber intake.

You really need to call your insurance company and check with them. Normally, insurance carriers will not pay for complications related to a procedure that they did not cover but it all depends on the diagnosis and treatment plan.

H. Pylori is a bacterial infection that can cause ulcers. It can be transmitted sexually so partners are usually treated with antibiotics as well as the patient. The course of antibiotics solves the problem so it's good it was diagnosed.

Alternative Port Placement Locations
Elisabethsew replied to astera's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Port flipping is not common. Port placement is something you should discuss with your surgeon. Tell him/her what you read and what your concerns are. -
6 month superzied diet question
Elisabethsew replied to mammanan's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The purpose of the 6 month diet is to prove to the insurance company that you can't lose a significant amount of weight. If you've done this in the past, have your MD write a letter to the insurance company. It's also a VERY good idea to call the insurance carrier and ask them to send you the requirements so you don't have any surprises. -
So nervous about insurance
Elisabethsew replied to Tangerine4's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
IF you need to appeal, call the insurance carrier and ask for your case worker. That is the person that can tell you what you need to do to gain approval. Good luck! I've got my fingers crossed that you'll be approved. -
sleep apnea question
Elisabethsew replied to Tangerine4's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The answer really depends on what your surgeon advises. Ususally, you go back to the sleep center and they monitor you with the C-Pap mask in place to determine the correct therapy settings. Most surgeons have you bring the machine with you on the day of the surgery. Call your surgeon's office and they should be able to answer the question. -
Please help me find a shake that tastes good.
Elisabethsew replied to SydneyLouWho's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon only uses the medifast shakes that you get online. I ordered the ready to drink (RTD) chocolate ones and love them... still order them. -
Congratulations... fingers and toes crossed for you!

What is a good tasty protein drink ?
Elisabethsew replied to jinxe's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Protein has 4 calories per gram so your shake has 80 calories of protein. My surgeon advised Medifast shakes. I got the ready to drink ones in chocolate and still order them. I'm sure you'll get a lot more suggestions.
