Crazy question about 20 years from now
Elisabethsew replied to skinnymommytobe's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I get rigors (shaking chills) and profound nausea from anesthesia. It's important to discuss this with the anesthesiologist. They gave me something so that I had NO nausea and handled the rigors as soon as they started. I had no pain the day or night of surgery and only asked for pain medication once. My throat was not sore and the gas pains only started for me the day I left. A heating pad to the shoulder and moving as much as possible ends that problem in about a day or so. -
I don't think chocolate cravings ever go away. One ounce of dark chocolate is considered healthy! LOL.

Band Out, Sleeve In! It's done.

The tiredness might be due to anemia or abnormal thyroid values. Simple blood tests will give you the answers. -

You can have soups, mashed potatoes, puddings, chicken salad, tuna salad, cottage cheese, yogurt, meatballs, pasta, etc. You can't have hard protein like a steak or chicken breast or pork chop. -
Band Out, Sleeve In! It's done.

On May 2, I was allowed to go back to an unrestricted diet and eats solids. I am still surprised at how little I am eating and at how much I need to chew food in order to get it down. This is something I never had to do with the band as food easily went down with that. All my gherlin must have been cut out because I never feel hungry and I notice that I get the hiccups when my stomach is full. It takes just a small amount of food for me to feel full and I'm in no hurry to go back to solids. -
Soda, skins, pills and the sleeve

In the pre-op talk Dr. Aceves said no carbonated drinks should be a rule. -
Your story is a nightmare and I'm so sorry for all you went through. I promise, the sleeve is going to be so much better for you.

Oregondaisy's turn for sleeve surgery
Elisabethsew replied to Oregondaisy's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Use anti-bacterial soap and shower once a day. Do not soak the site. Apply a new gauze or bandaide after the shower... no antibiotic cream on the bandaide. Change the dressing/bandaide as necessary during the day. Welcome Home! I'm glad you're feeling well. -
I Need a Boost-Me-Up- Please Help
Elisabethsew replied to roseyandmusic's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
It's important to research how many procedures the surgeon has done, the complication rate, and the checks for leakage done. Price alone should never be the deciding factor. Good luck to you all. -
Please remember that this is a support forum. People who are paid by surgeons for the purpose of getting free advertisement are banned. If your surgeon wants to advertise, he can contact the owner of this site (Alex) and pay the rates other surgeons do. I wish you good luck on your surgery and caution you to stick to the rules of the forum Thank you,

I Need a Boost-Me-Up- Please Help

Mexacali is less than a mile or so over the border from California. I can attest to the fact that Daisy, Susan, WASA, Mac, myself, and others do NOT work for Dr. Aceves. I don't even list his name in my signature. The bottom line is, it's your body and your husband supports you. How did your parents find out? Listen to your gut. -

That's interesting about they make garments differently based on size. I am still wearing the same clothes I did the day I had the revision surgery but they are VERY loose. The tops I can get away with a little longer but the dress slacks will need to go after another 10 pounds is gone. -

I'm the opposite... 5' 2" and petite bone frame... tiny hands and a size 6 shoes. At my present weight, I am a 1X (18-20). Since I have never not been fat, I have no idea what size I would be at goal so it should be fun seeing how low I can go... weight and size! LOL. -

The lowest size I got to was a 14-16 so it's a dream to get to a 10-12 and shop in regular stores. I do remember looking in the mirror and thinking I was much heavier than I really was and swearing the clothes I chose to try on would never fit... they did. LOL. -

Geeeez! I don't need another addiction! LOL. I suspect shopping for new clothes in "regular" stores will be fun. -

Yes, you can add artificial sweetners to drinks. I would go to a health food store and see if they have samples of whey protein. Try some post-op to see if there is one you can tolerate. Remember, if you can't do any of them (most people can do one), contact the patient coordinator (Gaby). I found soy slender in the grocery store that's got fiber, 8 g protein, and 80 cal in 8 oz. I was allowed to use that after gagging up the whey stuff... day 5 post-op. -
Oregondaisy's turn for sleeve surgery

I think I am the only one in the world who thought this was no big deal but my taste was screwed up for weeks and, to some extent, still is. -
When I had my surgery, there was one other case and he was a VSG also (not a revision). His mother was banded by Dr. A. one year ago and she was with him. They drove from CA and were allowed to leave right after the last leak test and removal of the drain. I was told they would contact my sister when I was out of surgery... they did not. Clearly THIS is something they need to improve on. Beside this, I found nothing to complain about.

I don't eat beef, pork, or lamb... nothing against them but I don't like the taste. I eat fish, chicken, and turkey for protein. Salads with a can of tuna and some nuts is a high protein source. Egg whites are pure protein (egg drop soup, yum) and cheeses and nuts have protein but you have to watch the fat and calories. I am not a tofu fan but that is high protein also. Slim fast is too many carbs!

I met that male RN when I was there and he looks great. He told me men do better than women but I intend to prove him wrong. LOL. You don't have that much to lose so you'll prove him wrong faster than me. -

Ask anything that comes up. I constantly emailed WASA with questions. LOL. -
I have not lost my love of chocolate and enjoyed some diet hot choc. today. As for a return of a normal appetite, I don't know if that is possible with the majority of the stomach gone.
