What's The Real Deal On Portions?

The information I received was for lapband patients only and is as follows: 1. No fast food, fried foods or processed foods (cakes, Cookies, etc.) 2. 1200 calories... 3 meals and 2 Snacks of 100 calories each. 3. For every portion of Protein (6 -8 oz), eat half a portion of veggies (3-4 oz) and half a portion of a starch (3-4 oz) such as Pasta, potato, crackers, etc. 4. Suggestions for snacks include a tablespoon of Peanut Butter, FF and sugar free pudding, 4 oz yogurt, fruit, etc.

    Well, I did it

I'm glad to hear your home and doing well. Make sure you get plenty of rest and get in at least 60 grams of protein a day to promote healing. Force yourself to get out of bed and walk around... it helps with the gas as well as keeps the circulation optimal in the legs. You're already drinking adequately so it sounds like you're on the road to recovery. Take the pain analgesics as needed.

    How much is too much?

My surgeon advises not lifting more than 25 pounds for the 1st 6 weeks and no abdominal exercising for that period of time. Anything else is fine. It sounds like you did not over do it.

    Whats wrong with this picture?

For $600 that MD should have reviewed your chart BEFORE you came into the exam room and, if you're not losing weight and have no restriction, HE should be questioning what's wrong and investigating further. I would advise first going to a GI specialist and having an esophagram to determine the state of the band now and then, if all is OK, report the surgeon to the insurance company and ask them for another MD in the area who does fills.

Back from a week in FL

While I am hoping to FINALLY feel SOME kind of restriction when I go for my first fill, I am hoping NOT to have an experience like yours. I hope you're feeling better.

    Where's your port?

Mine is about 6" above the naval and 2" to my left... no problems.
  8. WOW! You really do have a NSV and should be very proud of what you've accomplished. Law school is tough. Take lots of pictures and CELEBRATE!

Pain and hiccups with every swallow

Once you get through the first 5 days things steadily improve. Force yourself to walk, bend at the waste, and SIP fluids constantly. I hope you're feeling better.

    Kinda Scared

I'm going for my first fill on 5/25 so I too appreciate all the feedback offered in this post.

    Acid Reflux Question

Go and see a GI specialist and they'll write you a Rx. You can also buy OTC acid blockers.

Try some lite ricotta cheese and some soft fish like flounder.

God is testing me big time

If anything, the lapband surgery will allow you to have a swifter recovery from the knee surgery. I need a total knee replacement and the orthopedic surgeon told me to go ahead with the lapband first. I can't do the exercising that others do but I'm losing weight and decreasing pressure on weight bearing joints. Get some physical therapy for your knee so you can move ahead with the lapband surgery. Feel better soon.

Members Being Banded In March 06

I am counting down the days (15) until I go for my first fill. I haven't felt any restriction since 5 days post-op and my surgeon waits 8 weeks before giving a fill. For now, I'm sticking to the diet but the weight loss is slow. My next "official" weigh-in is 5/25 when I get the fill.

    Before banding practice

I am allowed to have all the coffee I want. In fact, they brought me a cup (real stuff - no decaf) the AM after my surgery. As for carbonated drinks... THAT they said no to.

    Salads Anyone?

I had a salad yesterday (nearly 6 weeks post-op) and did fine but I'm wondering if that will change after a first fill.

I sent it to all my fellow RNs, thank you.

How much to eat before 1st fill?

I have to wait 8 weeks for a fill and am counting down to 5/25 because, like you, I can eat ANYTHING with no problem and it's been this way since post-op day #5. I'm sticking to the diet to not gain weight but right now it's as if I was never banded. Hang in there until you get a fill.

80lbs in 16mos and 70 more lbs to go

As long as you're feeling well and consistently losing weight, you're fine. Congratulations on a great accomplishment so far.

    PS and the Domino Effect

Congratulations on making it to goal and I'm sorry to hear that your PS set off a chain reaction of bad events. I hope you'll soon have answers and be on the road to recovery.

going to the DR today! and tomorrow

What are you having done? I'm sure you're very excited (and nervous). Good luck, hope all goes well.

    Low Profile Port??

Inamed is the only port that I am aware of. I think the "low profile" is more of a surgical technique than a special port but I'm sure others might have other information.

    Saying Hello

Welcome and congratulation to you and your daughters.
  25. I have been fat/obese/morbidly obese from childhood so i know where you're coming from. Currently, I am 5.5 weeks post-op, have not had a first fill and am down over 30 pounds. I have an official weigh-in on 5/25 when I get that first fill (8 weeks post-op). I absolutely believe I can achieve my goals with the band and also know that losing weight means having your head in the right place first. I'm prepared for the battle and plan to win it.
