    What is wrong with me?

Jen, PLEASE call your MD ASAP. As a future RN you know the importance of treating clinical depression before it worsens. Make that call NOW.

How much house will $1 million buy in your area?

The house shown in the pictures would go for about 4-5 million here on Long Island in New York. Sad, but true. Real estate is out of control.

    Filled to the max?

Thank you for all the valuable information. I go for my first fill tomorrow and have not felt any restriction since post-op day 5. I am worried that, because I haven't had any restriction, I will require several fills before I do feel it. I am keeping my fingers crossed that tomorrow's fill is a success.

    Pre-Op Liquid Diet Weight Loss

How much you will lose depends on your age, sex, weight and metabolism. My surgeon also required a one week pre-op liquid diet that averaged about 700-800 calories a day. The average weight loss in his patients for that week was 5-12 pounds but a lot of that "weight" is water weight. As your surgeon stated, the purpose of the diet is to shrink the liver to make the surgery easier. Good luck!

    Almost 3 weeks of Liquids!!!

If you're having a hard time doing the prescribed diet, call the MD or his/her dietician and explain your difficulty. I hate yogurt so they let me substitute lite ricotta cheese. I was also moved up to a soft diet 4 days early and stayed on that until I could have regular food at week 5. When in doubt, give your MD a call and listen to your body.

    Are the bandless scaring newbies?

As a "newbie" I appreciate ALL the information I can get from "experienced" members. If I can prevent complications for myself by learning from the mistakes of others, I say "thank-you for sharing" and add the new information to my aging brain in the hopes of keeping my band and myself healthy.

    Sad Nsv

I donate to Big Brother/Big Sisters and they are always grateful for whatever they receive. Since childhood and teen obesity is, sadly, on the rise, large size clothing is greatly appreciated by this organization.

10 Month Post opp and stuck, (pics)

    Congratulations on your wonderful success.
  12. It sounds like sciatic pain. I believe there is a chiropractor here who might be able to shed some light on your problem. If the pain is too bad, call your MD.

    big fills vs. little fills

My surgeon has banded well over 1000 people and refuses to give a first fill until 8 weeks post-op. He finds complete healing requires the 8 weeks and has minimal complications from this practice. I would wait until you're a few weeks post-op before scheduling your first fill.

    Hi LBT-can I vent?

Hi Bandedmama, Before I got the band, I lost over 200 pounds (diet and exercise) and then regained all but 100 pounds. I'm getting my first fill on Thursday and hope that I finally feel restriction. I read all the posts about people not being able to eat X or Y and feeling full after 1/2 cup of food and I wonder if the surgeon operated on me but forgot to put the damn band inside. Come here for support and psych yourself into the "losing" mode. Obesity is an addiction so you'll never be cured. The best we can do is never give up the battle and admit defeat. FIGHT BACK!

    Gallbladder out/Reflux begins?? Scared!

Yes, that is something you should worry about and you should consult a surgeon. There is a drug called URSO that is used to dissolve sludge and crystals that your MD could prescribe but, if that doesn't work, you would need surgical intervention.

    Got my first fill today.

I'm going for my first fill on Thursday and am glad to know it's not painful and that some of you are feeling restriction. I am VERY eager to see what kind of results I get.

    Hard facts?

Three years ago I took a vacation to Ireland. I was VERY surprised that Ireland was running public interest advertisements on the increasing rates of obesity in that country and stressed the importance of NOT becoming an obese country like America. They didn't slam America... just pointed out what the future could be and the future was America.

Pinching at the port - post op 6 days later

You're feeling the tightening of the sutures as the edema subsides and the healing progresses. Try to take is slow and easy for the first 2-3 weeks.

    Night Eating - Sleep Eating???

Night binging and not remembering the events are associated with sleeping pills. I have not heard of anyone with your experiences but I sure do applaud your creativity in finding a workable solution. LOL.

new addition to lap band surgery to reduce hunger?

Hungry all the time? Are you getting in the required amount of calories and eating 3 meals a day? Are you getting in foods high in fiber and drinking plenty of water? Have you distinguished "physical" hunger from "emotional" hunger? Are you losing weight? If you've been having trouble for 5 months, you should speak with your MD and maybe have an EGD scheduled to make sure everything is OK. I have not heard anything about cutting nerves for hunger reduction.

New Kid In Town - Costs

You mentioned the hospital and surgeon's costs but make sure you find out if the anesthesiologist's bill is included in that deal. Most bill separately so you'll want to know that before you make any decisions. Also, find out the cost of fills. Welcome!

If I can and have eaten a whole...

I would bet that ONE burger and fries is a lot LESS than you would have normally ordered so don't sweat an occasional deviation from the diet plan. I hope we BOTH achieve some level of restriction from fill #1 on Thursday. I'm a little nervous but that is nothing compared to my desire to actually FEEL like I did have surgery. LOL. Good luck on Thursday.
