Try taking them with food and call your MD to see if you can take an extra acid blocker like Nexium. I hope you feel better soon.

New Friend/A little bit about my story

Welcome! We look forward to hearing more about your story. -
Hello from Sunny California!!
Elisabethsew replied to LilMissDiva Irene's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
It's rained 18 out of the last 20 days here and more forecasted for tomorrow... let's switch. LOL. -
Until you're on solids for a few weeks, your weight is going to fluctuate a lot. It's best to weigh weekly. I had a 3 week period of time when I lost nothing and I was eating 600 cals max a day. I believe it was my body getting back in balance after the surgery and the month of post-op different diets. Now that I am on solids and have a healthy diet, I am losing each week. A pound is 3,700 calories. I am SURE your soup did not contain 3 x that amount to make you gain 3 pounds. LOL.

I'd love curly hair! Mine is fine and thin and I have been losing more of it the past 3 weeks or so. When did yours stop falling out and did it come back thicker AND curly?

Another newbie with many, many questions!

Welcome! I too had a band and was miserable with it. After 3 years and 1 day, I revised to a sleeve and got the band out. Although I followed all the rules, the band never worked for me and the acid reflux was horrible. With a sleeve, it works right away. You have no appointments to fill it and then unfill it, etc. There is no foreign device inside you squeezing your upper stomach and the weight loss is proven to be faster and in a higher percentage than with the band. Some MDs say 6 months and some use a year as a guideline for getting pregnant so ask your OB/GYN. As for recovery, the sleeve was a much easier recovery than the band was. I went back to work as an RN and did two 13 hours shifts one week post-op. -
I have an ice-cream maker that I never use and decided to drag it out and see what I could come up with. Here's a VERY simple recipe that is fat free and sugar free: 3 cups of Greek vanilla fat-free yogurt (toss the liquid) 10 packets of splenda 1 tsp vanilla extract THAT is the basic recipe (easy enough?). LOL. You mix all the ingredients and then follow the directions on the ice-cream maker. Each cup is 180 calories and has 11 g of Protein. You can "kick it up" by adding whatever you like the last 5-10 minutes of processing such as: - Dried fruit - Fresh fruit - Peanut Butter - Nuts of your liking I added a teaspoon of cinnamon to the basic recipe and it was delicious. You can also make the basic recipe and serve it over fresh berries, etc. Enjoy!

HELP!!!! Anyone post-op!!!
Elisabethsew replied to Eyfura's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Keep a medicine cup or a shot glass and a bottle of water with you and try drinking one half ounce every 30 min for 2 hours and then gradually increase the amount. If your urine is dark yellow, you're getting dehydrated. -

Question for those who are 18 months post op
Elisabethsew replied to wishinghoping's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you! I am determined to get to goal and am enjoying having the band gone and enjoying healthy eating. We'll ALL make it! -
Depending on your anatomy, 70 to 90% (average 80%) of your stomach is removed. The hormone that is involved in making you feel hungry is called gherlin. It tells your brain that you're hungry and you respond by eating. Gherlin "lives" in the part of the stomach that is removed. Think of a sleeved stomach like a narrow straw that leads down to a pouch. The straw restricts how much food you take in and that pouch fills up fast on small amounts of food. You instantly feel full. Because the gherlin has been largely removed, cravings are dramatically reduced. It's your choice what you put down that straw. Ice-cream and other empty calorie foods slide right on down and you can pack the calories in. If you stick with 3 meals a day of healthy foods, you lose.

Thinking of using Dr. Aceves in Mexico
Elisabethsew replied to shanda7182's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Dr. Aceves requires anyone with a BMI of 40 or greater to follow a one week pre-op diet. It requires you to restrict carbs to 30 grams/day. You can eat all the lean protein you desire. -

Effects of anesthesia
Elisabethsew replied to Malaika's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Everyone is different in their recovery but I was able to go back to work one week post-op and did two 13 hour shifts (I'm an RN) with little difficulty. My saving grace was Kelloggs Protein Water. It had just enough calories (50) and protein (5) to keep me going during the clear liquid phase. You could always go back to work a few days and see how it goes before going back full time. -
time after meals when you can drink
Elisabethsew replied to Oregondaisy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So, is the purpose of waiting to drink after meals to stay full longer? -

Thank you for posting the link to the VSG successful veterans. I love to see that people with large amounts of weight to lose (like me) HAVE reached goal and stayed there. -

When you read this again after your surgery you'll smile because the minute you arrive at Almater Hospital, you'll let out a sigh of relief. As an RN, you're going to be amazed at how efficient things are done there, how clean the place is, and the amazing care you receive. You see the surgeon, ast. surgeon, and his RN team 3 times a day! When does that happen in the U.S.? Having never had surgery is a plus for you as it's a lot less work for the surgeon and a quicker surgery for you.
