Hi all, any advice would be greatly recieved.. I was referred to Birmingham hospital for a gastic band, The surgeon asked me questions and took my bmi which is 39.6. But i have high blood pressure, because i wasnt on medication he referred me back to my GP to apply for funding from the PCT. I went back to my GP on friday and he wasnt happy with this decision he said i would NOT get funding from the PCT they normally wriggle out of it, none of his patients have ever got funding. Anyway he is now referring me to Walsall Hospital and sending me tomorrow to a different hospital for Pre Op tests these include (blood test, ECG and Chest X-Ray) he as also put me on Blood Pressure tablets. On all the things he as given me for the tests it says pre bartriac Surgery. My BP was 173/136 on friday. My GP also said he hates it when doctors just class it as another day at the office and dont look at patients circumstances or reasons behind surgery. So Do you guys think i stand a better chance this time or not. Thanks for reqading this !!

How much do these charge for a band ?

I went today to see the surgeon but because my BMI is 39.6 My GP has to apply to the PCT for funding. I have high BP but because im not on tablets they cant count that. there is alot of diabetes in family I am NOT diabetic, dad and uncle both died at 55 both had diabetes. I had to drive for over 1 hour and 20 mins to the hospital, then he said he will get me in to see his dietician today. reception said dietician was busy and to make an appointment. i said im not driving 50 miles to see a dietician when i have seen loads. dietician is supposley gonna call me. ive made an appoiintment with gp on friday for a chat...... so what do you think my chances are of getting a band on the nhs, whats my next move.

I So love my GP He said referring me to the pct will do nothing they always squirm out of these things. So he did my BP again it was 136/195 gave me tablets and he is referring me to a different hospital and giving me some tests so hopefully i should get it done this time. IM SO HAPPY !!

i go see my doc tomorrow see if he can put a case forward to the pct, thety mert on the 28th October, so if he pulls hissocks up i may get a answer soon........ I so hope they do it. I need it..

Im getting nervous now, my appointment is at 3.30, I so hope they let mw have it done !! Otherwise i will have no option that go abroad. Im getting married next Aug so really wanna lose weight for this too. I dont wanna get married in a tent.

Hi, Im interested if anyone had had a band fitted with a BMI under 40 i am 38.5 but am deseprate for this band. I do have issues that may help......... High BP and Diabetes in family, dad died young due to gastric cancer and Diabetes uncle died young again he had diabeties. ( both died age 55) Any ideas of ways i can get the surgeon to let me have this done on the NHS Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appriechated.

The only reason i can think of being referred to him is because my dad died of cancer and he had gastric and pancreatic cancer as well as diabetes, he was only 55 when he died. i just find it really strange... Hi, Ive been on lots of diets, been prescribed both Xenical and Reductil, had to be taken off slimming pills due to Blood Pressure, GP have referred me to Hoapital. I have a appointment tomorrow but its with a Gastric Cancer Surgeon which i find strange ?

What tests do they do pre op. The reason i ask i have problems and my urine always comes out with Huge amounts of Protein present, this isnt harmfull to me. But if i was to have mine fiited abroad if they test urine is there a chance of being turned away. Or is it just blood tests. Im hoping to have it on the NHS but my BMI is 38.5.

I have been referred to Mr Kumar (heartlands hospital) i go on Monday anyone know him, what he does, i believe he is a surgeon. Any help and i would be so gratefull or any advice that will make my chances of getting this gastric band done.
