    2 questions

re: sliming..... I had my first sliming incident last week, so it is still burned into my brain... First, I was eating too fast, and took too big of a bite. The pain in my chest was very, very intense. I got the hiccups. I decided to walk around to see if the stuck piece would go down. No dice. Then, my mouth and throat seemed to instantly fill with mucous-y saliva. I knew from reading these forums what was coming. I ran in the bathroom and threw up whatever was in my throat, plus all the snotty stuff. Copious amounts of slimy mucous-y saliva. Yuck. The good thing was that the pain was gone after that. My throat was sore for about a day. I hope that never happens again!!
  2. Banded 3/30. Really rough first night in hospital (gas/nausea), but since then everythings been fine. Went in to Drs office for a nutrition/exercise class on 4/7 and he said I was doing so well, that I could start mushies! Yay! Trying to walk for about 30 minutes a day. I'm down 20 lbs since starting the preop diet on 3/20. Still dealing with fatigue and sore incisions, but that's not a big problem. Going in for my first fill on 4/28.

Hard Time Sticking to the Liquids

Hi Sonya, I was banded just a few days after you! I know what you mean about the liquid diet! :scared2: I am just too afraid to take any bites of anything and risk damaging myself in some way! Remember, it is only for a couple of weeks that you need to be on only liquids.... knowing that there is an end to this helps me to get through it day by day! HTH! God bless!

    Doctors in San Diego?

I was just banded a few days ago by Dr. Sunil Bhoyrul at Alvarado. I believe he also works out of Scripps La Jolla. Dr B was great; his staff is also excellent. The OR staff and nurses at the hospital could not have been any sweeter or more attentive. I also went to a seminar with Dr. Julie Ellner out of Alvarado, whom I also liked very much - but she didn't take my insurance.

    Protein

I like the Atkins shakes and also the EAS AdvantEDGE Carb control shakes. They are both sold at my Walmart.
  6. I'm TODAY!!! YAY!!! In fact, I'm leaving in 15 for the hospital! Any prayers would be greatly appreciated!!

    Newbie in SoCal

I'm also a So CA bander. This is a great site for information and advice! I was really nervous at first, too..... I think that's natural. I had no idea what to expect or exactly what would happen. Read, read, read and gather all the info you can... it really helped me to feel confident that this was the right choice for me and I now know pretty much what to expect thanks to all the research I have done! The people here are great too!

    Scheduled my surgery!!

 It does feel great to finally have a date set! Hope all goes perfectly for you!
  9. First I want to say that this site has been a God-send! Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to post! I have learned so much from this site and I feel completely ready (but still nervous) about my banding on 3/30. My question is about the pouch and having it get stretched out over time, if a person consistently eats large amounts of food. Has anyone had a problem with this? Does this happen to a lot of people? I was under the assumption that if a person with a band ate too much, the excess food would "come back up" in one way or another. I want to be very careful not to overeat and stretch my new pouch! Thanks again for your input, everyone! God bless!

    New here

I have found this site to be EXTREMELY helpful. The people here are candid and willing to share all kinds of experiences - good and bad. I am so glad I found this site.
  11. Bless your heart! What a miserable experience. Thank you for sharing! I will be SURE and take the proper measures to avoid any similar predicaments...
  12. Hi, I am 44 and I will have surgery on March 30. I live in San Diego and Dr. Bohyrul is performing my surgery. I was going to have the surgery in October, but I'm sure you all are very familiar with how ridiculous insurance companies can be. Well, my insurance FINALLY just came through. I was on here in October and found so much information.... this is a great site!
  13. Wanda, First of all, ((((hugs)))) to you. I have not had the surgery yet, and I just found out today that I won't be able to have it until next spring. (I was all set to go for next Monday, until an insurance issue reared its ugly head). So I'm bummed, too. My thoughts are just to take it one day at a time, even one meal at a time. Don't beat yourself up. Reward yourself for making good choices. Remember that nobody's perfect! I will pray for you, Wanda. Sincerely, Kara
  14. I am new here and my surgery date is October 20th.
