    January '09 banders

Hi, I got banded on January 19th in Rancho Cucamonga, CA. Feeling good........What type of post op diet was/is everyone on and for how long liquid/mushies/regular food??
  2. Hi Myra, How did it go??? I'm doing good. Gas is hard to get rid of like everyone says, but I feel good.

  3. Hi Michele,

I put a quick post on my blog to let everyone (all 2 of them haha) know that all went well. I'll post more when I'm feeling more myself, but my pain is minimal and pain meds are doing fine. Just tired. Talk to you soon.

  4. Hi everyone, Just a quick post to let everyone know that surgery went well. I had about a one hour stay in recovery and the worst of the pain was the shoulder, but that has subsided. Thanks to all for all your support. I will post and keep you updated and let you know how I do on Wed. Thanks.......WendyMary
  5. I have a sticky situation and I'll try to make it short. I've been planning my Lap band surgery for months now and anxious to be banded. I'm over a week into the very difficult pre op liquid protein diet and doing well (i've lost 9 lbs). My surgery is scheduled for Monday and my grandmother just passed away and the funeral is scheduled for Wed. I called the Dr. office and they thought I should feel ok. I've talked with other banders and they all seemed to be feeling better and getting themselves off pain meds on around day 3 or 4. I have family comming in from all over and don't want anyone to know. I've told my immediate family (mom, dad, brother, uncle). Any advice??? tell me how you were feeling?? I have never had surgery before, but feel like I'm pretty tolerant of pain and I'm healthy (except for the weight issue) and I exercise regularly. I really don't want to reschedule, I've already done that once due to the holidays and all.......I should have kept my original date. I don't mind being soar on the incision site....Pain meds should help a bit. I'm worried about internal soarness.....is it really bad???? I'm also not worried about the not eating part either.....I've done it all week and no one really notices... I just keep a drink in my hand and sip on that....Sorry this was long....help!!!
  6. Hi everyone, Just wanted to let everyone know I'm back home and doing fine. I was in recovery for only about an hour and on my way home by 1pm. The worst of the pain was the shoulder discomfort, but that has subsided now. A little pain on the incesions, but pain meds help a lot. Gas is getting better. I'll post my surgery day story later when I'm feeling more myself.

  7. I'm glad to hear your feeling better Jill. I will be careful and I feel so much better about my decision to go forward. Thanks for your help. Wendy
  8. Hi Michele,

How are you doing???? I got the call from the hospital for Monday. I have to check in at 8am. I'm excited and nervous all at the same time. When do you get your first fill??? I know you are at that difficult stage of trying to maintain and feeling like you can eat anything. Hang in there.....when your fill comes, you'll feel better.

  9. I find this whole website a little frustrating at times. I just figured out how to read postings sent to specific people. Anyway, Thanks for the info on the ticker. I think I'm going to wait a while as I'm not ready to post my weight for everyone to see yet. I wish I could do it in pounds lost to goal. How is everything going for you???

  10. Hi MyraMack:

I find this whole websit very confusing. I wasn't getting your messages and now I think I know how to find them. Anyway, for some reason I thought you were in CA and at the same Hospital as me. Your in CT, you are probably wondering why I asked if they tried to rescheule your date. Anyway, I got my pre op instructions today. Liquid diet going good, down 12lbs, though I do 2-3 shakes a day and a no carb, protein small meal and the weight has still been coming off. I'm feeling nervous, but mostly about the funeral and how I will feel and all the hugging and stuff. I'm going to do good with my pain meds on that day. Talk to you soon.

  11. Jill, That would be great to let me know how your doing at 72 hours. Thanks for sharing.

Recovery....How will I feel 72 hours post op??

Its only a 45 min drive and I can lay down at my uncles if I decide to go on to the after ceremony. My hubby will drive me to the funeral and I can just recline the seat and lay back and get some rest. He is taking the week off work, so I can just rest the first 2 days and take it way easy and I will do just that. I know not to over do it or I will suffer on day 3 and I'm going to do everything to avoid that. I can't wait to get this done. I have a friends from Lap band talk who had it done with my exact Dr. one week ago and she was out shopping the next day, so I have my fingers crossed all will go well.
  13. Thanks all for all of your posts. It really makes me feel better knowing how everyone else did. I know that going to the funeral is a MUST!!! I MUST go or I'll forever regret it. The after party, I would hate to miss, but could if I was feeling really bad. I will be able to find a seat somewhere in a corner and talk with family and I know walking and standing will help the gas. I think I'll say I've been ill with the flu and my stomach is still a little queeze if anyone asks or the hugging gets to be too much. I'm tolarnt of pain meds and I think I'll explain the situation with my doctor before the surgery and maybe he can give me other pain meds that might be stronger if I'm feeling bad. All of your comment have made me feel more at ease about going forward. My brother had Lapricopic Gastric Bypass and he said he was not feeling well 72 hours after, but Bypass is much more invasive and I feel not at all the same. Wouldn't you agree????? Keep the comments coming.... Makes me feel better about my decision to go forward. Thanks for all your kind words about my Granny tooo!!!!

Recovery....How will I feel 72 hours post op??

I have a situation that I want to hear comments from. I'll try to make it short. I have been planning my Band surgery for months now and am at the end stretch of the 2 week pre op liquid diet and doing well. My surgery is Monday (yeah) and my grandmother just passesd away and funeral is scheduled for Wed (72 hours post op). I called the Dr. office to see if I should reschedule. I have to attend the funeral and would like to attend the after ceremony. I will be seeing family from all over and no one but my parents, brother and uncle know and I don't want anyone to know. Can everyone tell me about how they felt 72 hours post op?? Any advice would be helpful as I am totally stressed about this. Thanks
  15. Hi Myra,

did they call and try to reschedule your date??? I said "no" that I had to do the 19th or I'd have to reschedule. My grandmother passesd away and her funeral is on the 21st and I need a couple days to recover before going. How is your liquid diet going???

    -Wendy

  16. Shanricci,

It's so nice to hear from other patients that have had good experiences with Dr. O. How have you been doing and feeling since surgery??? How did you do with the pre op diet??? How much did you loose on pre op diet???

  17. Hi MyraMack,

Wow, what a small world!!! Have you heard from the surgery center as to what time your scheduled for??? That would be great to meet you on the day of and go through this journey together. I am struggeling with the liquid diet. I'm friends with another gal on this site that had surgery with Dr. O and was told she could drink 2 meals and then have a low cal, low carb, high protein meal, so I've been doing that. I went throught the binder that the Dr. gave me and it said between 700-800 calories a day and 60-140 protein grams per day. I'm actually able to have 3 protein drinks a day and one small dinner and stay within or very close to that calorie and protein level. Have you been doing only protein drinks????? I don't know if I could do that. How much weight have you lost so far???? I"m beginning to get discouraged because I've only lost about 4 lbs and I thought I'd loose 1-2 pounds per day acording to the Dr.

  18. Wow, Good for you!!! Your going throught Dr. Owens right??? I'm on the pre op diet and not likeing it much. I'm not loosing as fast as I thought I would, but I weigh everyday. I think I need to keep it to once a week, but I can't help myself. Anyway, my surgery date is Jan 19th and I can't wait to get started on this journey. When do you start your pre op diet???

  19. Hi brenda,

I've been trying to put a ticker to track my weight loss on my profile and I can't figure it out for the life of me. How do you add a ticker???

    Thanks

    Wendy

I thought he was wonderful too. Do you have a blog or anything documenting your journey?? Can you tell us about your journey so far??? Wendy

Thank you, that is so reassuring. I looked up some pictures online and it looks real nice, just good to hear from someone who has actually seen it. Also, great that you had a good experience. Wendy

Hi, Just curuious, I went to San Pedro office for consult and physical and will have the surgery in Rancho Cucamonga facility. What did you think of the Rancho Specialty Hospital??? I won't see it until the day of my surgery and wanted to get a feel for it.

Brenda, What do you mean about adding the thicker???? The Dr. is so nice, but he is walking with a cane due to a back injury. He assures me it hasn't affected his surgery and I feel fine with it. He's very nice and personable. The office wants me to purchase the Protein shakes and vitamis through them and they really push it (the Dr. doesn't push their shakes). The kit is $150 and it will provide 3 tubs of protein and Vitamins which should be enought for pre op diet as well and post op diet. They didn't mention it to you???? I was thinking of purchasing the kit just to be safe and felt it was comparable (a little more) than some of the good protein drinks out there. Tell me what you are using and if they tried to get you to buy theirs and you decided not to. Talk to you soon, Wendy

Hi Brenda, My surgery is Jan 15, but I might have made a typo and put Dec. Sorry. I was originally scheduled for the 5th as well, but postponed to the 15th due to the preop diet and the holidays and all. I don't think I will be able to do it with the holidays. I'm not that disciplined. I've been talking with Michle also, and she is doing so well. It's nice to know what to expect. I didn't have to do any authorizations or anything with the office, they just told me to pay 1/2 the costs 2 weeks before surgery and the other 1/2 to the hospital the day of surgery. Is that what you have to do as well??? The office didn't give me any other details about time etc. They said someone would call me just before the procedure to give me all the details.
