Starting the holiday detox early, anyone wanna join me?
temmaddie replied to Boo Boo Kitty's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm not sure if I am posting this in the right spot, but I figured support is support. I didn't gain over the holidays, BUT - I have been between 219 and 217 for over a month. I just got my third fill two weeks ago, but I REALLY do not feel any restriction. I can feel the food go down a TINY bit slower, but not much. I have lost about 20 pounds, but it has been over four months since surgery. Just wanted to see if anyone can give me some advice? -
Hi, my name is Tricia, and I had surgery bank on August 18th. I have 4cc's in a 9cc band. Problem? I have lost 20 pounds - all of which happened in September and October. The scale has not budged since. I do not have any restriction at all, and feel like I am still doing this on my own. It is getting scary, I don't want to gain that 20 back. Can I call and tell them I need a fill? How often is everyone else out there getting them? The most frustrating part is : yes, my close friends and family say they are seeing a difference, but I have had people at work ask if it is not working. It's kind of embarassing, even though I know I should not care!!! lol Any input would be appreciated!!
-
Oops! Sorry - I see the date of surgery was May 30th!
-
Thanks for the input, I will give my doctor a call and see if I can get scheduled for another fill. Everyone keeps saying what a difference it makes once you get the restriction, so I will just keep looking forward to that!! By the way - i see you are from Sterling. My husband and I lived in fairfax and a few other areas for 8 years, we came back towards pittsburgh after we had our daughter!! I miss it there - sometimes!! Also, do you think it is a little harder for people who are under a certain weight to lose? If you don't mind - when did you have your surgery?
-
I keep trying not to compare to others, I KNOW all of our bodies are different. But when I see someone down 50 pounds that had a fill the same time as me, or even after, it is hard!! I started at 237, and I am 217 now. I just REALLY want to see the 190's. LOL I keep thinking the first 20 was pretty easy. So, I want the next 20 to be the same!!

Hi, I had my surgery on aug. 18th. I just had my second fill, but i still feel like i can eat whatever and however much i want. i have 4ccs, in a 9cc band. i keep hoping for restriction. i lost 20 pounds in the first 2 months, but now i have been stuck for an entire month. are you still losing even though you feel no restriction? i feel like the "tool" has not really kicked in yet, and it scares me a little. I don't want to gain any weight back!!

Hi, i was banded on August 18th, and went to Disney on Sept. 14th. Not a problem at all!! The harder part was watching what I ate while I was there!!! LOL -
Banding in Pittsburgh PA?
temmaddie replied to lyndzileigh's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi, I'm very familiar with Jeanette. I like that whole area, and sometimes miss living in Greensburg!! Yes, I live in Brownsville right now, we were planning on building up by the Connellsville area, but are waiting with the economy the way it is!!! The insurance was actually simple. They required me to see my primary care doctor once a month for six months to weigh in. To record any and all diets that I attempted. Get a letter from my doctor saying he thought it was a good idea. Had to meet with the nutritionist twice over that period, and then the psych. eval. That was it. Was approved the same day they submitted it, and scheduled for surgery two weeks later!! I have heard of other doctors being a little harder. But, you have health issues - which in this instance will benefit you. (that's scary, hu??) I'm sure yours will go through easily. Are you just starting the process? -
It's called ketosis. Just google the word, and it will bring up everything you need to know. I believe your body is using fat for energy, there is part of that molecule called acetone (sp??) that can't be used, and is excreted as waste. Which means it would come out through your breath or urine. LOTS of people get this when losing weight this way! Hope that helps!

Hi Steph, I noticed you are from the Somerset area. I am from Rockwood, but live down by Uniontown now. Do you still live in Somerset? I met someone else from our area on here, small world!!! I got banded on August 18th, at West Penn.

Hi, where do you live in Westmoreland county?? I lived in Greensburg for awhile when I was a lot younger. (early 20's) I coached volleyball at Hempfield High School. I can't answer questions about magee, sorry!! I went to West Penn. But, I have heard good things about Magee. I do have Blue Cross/Blue Shield, and it was simple, for me to get approved. Do you have any health issues at all? -

Hi, thanks for the reply. I have a ton of questions. So, I hope you don't mind. My e-mail is tem522@hotmail.com. I was not sure how to respond to your reply - through here or private e-mail. Could you let me know which you prefer? Thanks so much!! -
Hi, I have posted before, but this week I am stressed. The scales have not budged for almost two weeks. Had surgery on Aug. 18th. Lost about 14 pounds, but then we went to Disney on Sept. 14th to the 20th. Actually managed to lose another 4 and 1/2 pounds there, but since we have come back not a pound. Had first fill on Mon. but not much restriction. Food did get get stuck for the first time today, but only lasted about 9 minutes then went away. What do you do when you're stuck??

Just trying to find local people that have been banded, or will be banded. Trade stories, and get support!!

Hi, well today I had a bowl of oatmeal with half a cup of skim milk. One cup of tomato soup with 2 spoonfuls of tuna, then a little rice, with chicken breast and mushrooms. I also had one half cup of kool aid - I KNOW that's bad, and 8 cups of water. I put this all on daily plate and it says 965 calories today. AND, I do the wii for 30 to 45 min four days a week. Am I still eating too much?? I also do a banana most days, I'm low in potassium.

I am not 'fat' enough??!!!
temmaddie replied to 100lbsforsale's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Do you have any health issues at all? My bmi to start was 37.4. However, I did have slight hypertension and sleep apnea, so my insurance approved it right away. You have to ask yourself this question.... have you lost 20 pounds before and gained it back? For me, over the past nine years, I have worked hard and lost 20 pounds many times. BUT, I always managed to put it back on. The chances are really low for keeping weight off with normal dieting. (sorry!!) -
Yes, I have been taking my measurements, AND yes I have lost quite a few inches!!! Something to get excited about!! LOL I guess slow and steady is the way to go!!
-
Thanks for answering!! I think myself, and a LOT of others (from reading posts) thought this would be easy. They did NOT tell me how hard it would be during any meeting or seminar. BUT, I know it is worth it. I caught myself sneaking a bite of food that I really shouldn't have had. I felt like a little kid, trying not to get caught. But then I thought - who am I sneaking from? LOL EVERYONE is sooo supportive, but that still doesn't help the mind games!!
-
Thank you sooo much!!

I'm sorry, I am new to this, how would I move the post to another area? Yes, I am asking what to do when it seems as though the scale isn't budging. It's just really frustrating to work really hard, and eat so little but the weight is not coming off. What I am getting is just keep on working and trying and it WILL come off. Just maybe not as fast as I would like. Is that correct?
-
Hi, welcome. I am pretty new also - banded on Aug. 18th. Lost 19 pounds so far, but I have been "stuck" for a few weeks now. Are you feeling better now? I had severe gas pains in my chest area for about a week, but that was it. They slowly went away after that. But they really did hurt!! My starting weight was 237, and I am 5'6". I would like to get down to about 155, but am more concerned with size then actual weight. Do you have a goal set?

Hi, yes it is a small world!! Things are going well - I am down about 19 pounds - my surgery was Aug. 18th. It is SLOW, but that is ok. We went to Disney for a week in Sept. and that was hard. I DID eat (NOT an extreme amount) but probably more than I should have. Thank God we walked 3 to 5 miles a day!!LOL I have learned that it IS mental. There are times when I want to taste something, and then I realize hey I am not even hungry. I had my first fill on Monday. Did not fill a thing. I could still eat, but today for the first time my food got stuck. That feeling lasted for about 10 minutes. Really uncomfortable. You have a friend you mentioned that had this done, so that is great - someone to compare stories with!! Everyone I know that has had surgery did the gastric with wonderful results. I was just too scared to try it. Plus, I only really want to lose about 65 to 70 pounds. So felt this was my best choice. Do you still live in Berlin??
