Hello Barb There is a May Lap Band thread. All of these folks are right where you are. You might want to join us. http://www.lapbandtalk.com/showthread.php?t=16512

3-loves I remember now that I used to buy vanilla protein powder from PCC. It was pretty good mixed with milk. Thanks for the link to the thread.

K@t Instructions from my docs office is Clear liquids for the first couple of days. For the next two weeks, during full liquid stage is you can have stuff like tomato Soup made with non-fat milk or water; smooth yogurt; Carnation Instant Breakfast. If anything looks a little thick, thin it down with milk, broth, Water. You should be able to drink it with a straw (not that you have to.) The idea is to be very gentle to your new, healing pouch. Nothing with chunks, seeds, no matter how small. If you want, I could pm you the chart. They seem to understand about needing something with some flavor. BTW - what a GREAT DH!:clap2:

I have been reading alot about protein shakes/drinks etc. Maybe this is just because I've never looked for them, but what are they? Specifically, brand names? powders? pre-made liquids? I think I will need them, but I'm at a loss. I live in the Seattle, WA area, so are there specific stores? I'm trying to fill my pantry for post-surgery food and need some help. Thanks, guys. MAY IS ALMOST HERE FOR THE MAY-ERS!!!:clap2:

Thanks, Wade. I belong to another lapband group and they were very dissapointed that it didn't work. I think it was so kind of you to share your video. It answers a lot of questions to those of us that haven't had one yet.

I wonder why some docs require pre-op diets for some of their patients, and not others? I went to the information seminar and the facilitator said his Dr. asks women to lose 10 lbs, and men lose 30. (He did have a great deal to lose.) As it turns out, I am having the same surgeon and he said nothing to me about pre-op diets or losing any weight. The only requirement is nothing to eat/drink after midnight.
-
Wade I could see the video for a couple of times. Now it doesn't work. Did you do something different in the last couple of days?:grouphug:

Your car did exactly what it was designed to do. It crushed and saved the passengers. I worry when I see all these teensy little bitty cars out there. Great mileage, but will they save your life?

What does all this water actually do?
Stitchy replied to LilAngel's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I like purchased flavored water, BUT I drink it as a treat. For mass gulping :biggrin1: , I use a Brita filter. The tap water is a little yuk, but after filtering, it is just fine. At work, yep, I carry a water bottle all the time. Even at meetings. Too bad if no one likes it. -
Me! Me! On the 29th. Unfortunately, this birthday involves a ZERO:help:

Who do you see looking back when you look in the mirror? That's what the psych asked me. Hmmm! I don't accept that person I see. It's always a shock to me. In my head, I still weigh 130 lbs, asking "Coffee or Tea?" (Flight attendant in a previous life). Maybe I'm delusional about wanting to get back to 130 lbs. The psych said I should look at 160. What!! I remember that weight. That's not good enough.

I just finished up my marathon day at NWWLS in Everett. I passed the psych with flying colors!! Yippee! Surgery scheduled for May 9.

I am scheduled for banding on May 9th, too. Doc's office said NOTHING about pre-op diet or losing some weight prior to surgery. All that was said was nothing after midnight. I'll be having a pre-surgery visit on May 3. Maybe I'll find out more then. I hope nothing happens to stall the surgery. DH hurt his back on Saturday. :cry He was just wiping down the shower and has been in excrutiating pain ever since. I may have to miss work tomorrow to take care of him. We have some drugs :painkiller:left over from the last time this happened, so that helps, but getting up is painful. To get to the bathroom, he lays on my back (sort of) and we walk together. The last time it happened, we lived in a one story house. Now we are in an apartment that has stairs. He decided to stay upstairs in bed all day. I've gotta' get him better so that I can have him take care of me!

My Doc's info packet says to shower as much as you want. Just no soaking them (as in a bath). Not to worry. If they do come off too soon, pat dry and put others on.
-
My doc says Flintstones chewables, or I think Costco has the same thing that look like dragons or some such creature

Sharon I certainly sympathize with all of you that have "big girls." The other side of the "fried eggs" that I had, is that they didn't grow proportionately with my weight. Normal stores do NOT carry 44-B. No way. Never. I can only order them online, and make a guess at the correct size. We all know different brand sizes fit differently. Many manufacturers seem to think shoulders got wider, too and the straps won't stay up. I want to buy in a normal store, and be able to know that it will fit.

Turn Loose The Kate. Oh, Yeah! I like that!
-
Thanks, Donna. That's what I think, too. I wasn't happy at 160 the first time around. I don't think I would be happy again. If I wanted to "settle", maybe. But I am self pay and this is taking a huge commitment, both financially and emotionally. I don't want to stop short. I've got great support from DH and this forum.

OMIG!!! You ladies with the huge boobies. Here I am at 232 lbs, and still wear only a B cup. OOOOH! Where will they be when I lose 100 lbs??? I won't have girls. I'll have baby boobies! Maybe they will go backwards and I'll have dents. Like some of you, the bra is of within 2 minutes of entering the house. (Now, why was I embarrassed when DH took it upstairs?). Cotton Jockey panties. Full cut. Totally unsexy!

Actually, she seemed to understand completely. She has been banded herself. She showed pictures of before and let me feel her port (is that cool or what?). She seemed to think that was a good thing to get the physical image in line with the mental image. Anyway, she said she would approve me with no restrictions. Yeah!:biggrin1:
-
Amy I have the same thing. A mirror across from the CLEAR GLASS SHOWER DOOR!!!! And again, I am still shocked at this fat person. I will NEVER get used to this body. I am glad the banding is coming. The "Gatekeeper" will be watching over me. I want to see the person I think I am.
-
Amy Your response just made me cry.:cry ..really. I think deep inside me, I feel all of that, too. You and me... we must be a lot alike. We will survive and have to get to know ourselves again
-
Yeah! I like that!

Wow!! I just found out there was a May bandster group. That's wonderful. We will all be going through the same things at the same time. This forum is so big. I think a May thread will be just right for us "Maybees"

It's been a couple of days for you now. Are doing any better? You should be off Clear Liquids and sipping substantial liquids by now, shouldn't you? If you have a blender, puree some soup. You might need to thin it with milk (protein) or chicken soup, but if you get slightly thicker (and warmer) liquids in your tummy you might feel a little better. Now is the time for you to heal. Don't be tempted to put more solid food in there yet. Good luck, and keep posting.
