    Sleep & Pain

I have a recliner and sat in it when I got home, but I never slept in it. My bed is also a little high (no additional step needed). I just sorta got my buns on it and flopped down on my side. Was not difficult wiggling around to find a comfy position. I think I slept on my back for maybe two nights. That was weird since I'm a side sleeper. I didn't find it difficult at all to get up. I just rolled on my side and pushed up with my elbows. I sleep on my port side and never had any trouble. For the first few nights, I stuffed a pillow under my stomach for support. It was uncomfortable on my left side (stomach side?), but it went away after a couple of weeks. I suppose some people have more difficulty with sleeping arrangements, but I think most people don't. I wouldn't worry about it too much.

How aware are you of your port?

Yea, I feel it. It's still a little tender. I find myself rubbing it like I rubbed my belly when I was pregnant! Now, that's hoot!

    She had to drive herself.

No. DH probably didn't ask her, anyway. I would have, but that's not him. Besides, he was a little antsy because I wasn't *done* as soon as they told him I would be. He finally had to go to the desk to inquire. It took me longer in recovery than usual and he insisted that he be allowed in. Politely put, I think. He was going to find me irregardless! Now THAT's the kind of support we need!:clap2: :clap2:

    Overeating or PB?

Me, too. Agree, I mean. Measure, small bites, chew to goo! Even though I measure, I try to stop before I'm done to see if I'm full. I wait a couple of minutes (put the food out of sight). If I decide I'm still hungry, I'll finish. Good Luck

New Medicare Rule! Can"t Get My Fill!

Well, Leaner, if you doctor can't give you fills, you don't have much of a relationship with him. I'd bet that he may charge Medicare $650, but that they would actually pay less. If you have a good relationship with your doc now, maybe he would be able to do it for what they will pay? I would try that approach. And when (if) you get through to the medicare folks, ask what they charge. Good luck.

May 2006 Band Crew ~ June Chat

It's still June, so I have time to join the chat. It's been about 7 weeks since surgery. And since then, I have lost 17 lbs. During that time, I have had only two golf balls. I suppose I should have known better, but dang it! chicken salad and scrambled eggs were both on my doc's list of soft foods. Not for me apparently. I have not had a fill yet. I am still losing, but have stalled at 17 lbs for the last 2 weeks. I'm hesitant to get a fill because I feel good. I'm losing weight and can eat anything I want. I'm worried about the PB's and sliming and such. If I'm still there in a couple of weeks, I'll go in. I don't have to take baby bites, but I do chew really well. I can eat like before - only less. That is really hard, though, because I do feel like I could EAT IT ALL! That is what got me where I was in the first place. I literally have to say "I've had enough." My soft stops are pretty subtle - like just wondering if I had enough. And it is sooo hard to push the plate away when I know I could finish it in only 3-4 bites. No one has said that they notice yet. Well, DH has, but that's his job. I mean other people. I keep waiting. I have been pretty busy, and not posting too much, but I keep reading the May Bandster thread. Yea! for us!!:clap2: :clap2:
  8. No, I've never had that problem. I have had several surgeries and have not been asked for a sample.

    Sleeping position

I'm a former stomach sleeper (I got over it when I was pregnant.) but I could. I just don't like it now. My port is on my right side and I was worried because I am a right side sleeper. Except for the first night or two, I could sleep on my right side easily. It was my left side that was uncomfortable. Now, I can sleep in any position. Everything will be normal again. Not to worry.

    Daily PBs

If eventually, the food goes down, maybe you could try drinking something hot before you start eating? Some bandsters say the heat softens things up.

    Diet Breath!

Jack forgets that we mere mortals don't always understand doc talk!:biggrin1:
  13. I think it is perfectly normal to have these emotions. This is a really big deal and I waffled around for a long time. I probably could diet *one more time* but I don't see that the pattern would be any different. Each time I lost weight, I swore that I would never ... ever let it come back. And of course it did - with friends. I checked with my doc's office and they said the same thing. I sounded perfectly normal. And so are you.

    Surgery Question

Nope! You be nekkid! But you won't care since you will be out like a light. My gown tied in the back and they untied it before I got on the table.

    Knitting

Different weight yarns (like fingering, baby, worsted, bulk, etc.) have different yardages. How many ounces in a hank of yarn makes a difference, too. Usually, but not always, that information is printed on the yarn label. You can't guess. If this is a name brand, you might find some info online. Maybe the manufacturer has a web site. Or you might try taking it to a yarn shop. Quite often they have conversion tables. Good luck

Live in Seattle with Kids - need help quick!

If they go to Issaquah, tell them to be sure to watch for the correct address. There are two theaters on the same street and not very far from each other. Traffic sucks going across the bridge. I would suggest driving over by 3pm and having dinner in town. There are lots of restaurants. If they get there earlier in the afternoon, they can visit Boehms chocolates which is fun. Be sure to walk around the grounds. There is some really cool stuff. Their website says in Burien, but the shop is on the south side of Gilman in Issaquah: http://www.boehmschocolates.com/ The Issaquah fish hatchery. http://www.issaquahfish.org/ Prowling around Gilman Village is fun if she likes to shop. www.gilmanvillage.com Pioneer square is a great place in Seattle. Lots of little shops and you can take a tour of underground Seattle. It's at Doc Maynard's I think. And of course, Pike Place Market. http://www.pikeplacemarket.org/frameset.asp?flash=true When I took my brother around, we parked the car at a garage in Pioneer square and took the city bus to Pike Place. It's free in the downdown zone. Sure beats finding parking all day. And Fremont (very close to Seattle). Visit the troll and other stuff in Fremont http://www.arfarfarf.com/troll/ Good luck on your search for stuff to do.

Issaquah, WA (about 1/2 hour from Seattle): It looks like Pippin is showing during those dates: http://www.villagetheatre.org/kidstage_productions.html Seattle Center (Pacific Science Center) - where you could spend days: http://www.pacsci.org BTW - The butterfly exhibit is totally awesome. A preteen would love it. Bring a camera for sure. Good luck!

Question for Women on/after Surgery Date

I asked my Dr. about the incisions and port being on the waistband. He reminded me that my waist was going to get lower. WOW!! I love him :kiss2:
  20. I was banded May 9. It's about time for my first fill. And I don't think I want one. :nervous The fills come with the aftercare, so it isn't a financial issue. I'm afraid that if I get a fill, I'll start pb'ing and sliming and such. Like it will ruin a good thing because now I'm able to eat anything I want. I still eat small quantities but can eat normal sized bites. I feel full, and I am losing 1-2 lbs a week. I've only had one golf ball and it wasn't awful, just uncomfortable. Is the whole process really so much better after getting fills?

Oh NO!! Did I damage myself?

Doctors are wide and varied in what they will permit. I doubt if any of them are wrong. Try your best to comply, but if you are eating what other doctors permit, you didn't ruin your pouch and band. BTW - I hate Protein drinks. How about thinning a yogurt smoothie with milk? That would be pretty thin. This will pass.

Don't know what to title this

Sherry I don't think there is anything I can say that the others haven't already. If you have been together for 25 years, you must (probably, anyway) have something going with each other. I think this is most likely insecurity, although I have never considered that an excuse for being abusive in any form. I do think that he needs to hear how you feel, but you must pick the right time. And use a very calm voice and try to avoid tears (my downfall). While he should KNOW how hurtful his actions and words are, perhaps he doesn't have a clue. We are all here for you dear. Keep on posting.

    I don't think I want a fill

DAA - Yes, we do sound just like each other. I don't think we are stretching our pouches because we are losing 1-2 lbs a week. If were weren't losing (or HORRORS gaining), I would think there could be a possibility. I am hesitant to get a fill because I don't want the pb's etc., that can come with more restriction. I did email my surgeon's office and their response was "Sounds like you are doing great." She said if I was hungry, searching for food, etc., it might be time for a fill. She also said that people don't always need one and that they don't always give one. That would suck if you had to drive a long distance . I don't know if there are some foods I can't eat. I haven't tried any of the suspect foods. I'm not going to mess with sticky rice (fried is just fine, thank you), I don't keep bread in the house because of DH, and I don't have any desire for carbonation. I was just wondering if the actual users knew something I didn't. I think that I (we) should ride this thing until the wheels fall off. If we are happy, feeling full, and losing weight, why mess with success? I suppose that eventually I will get a fill, but I think I'd like to put it off awhile.
