When I stepped on a scale and found that the reading on the scale did not allow for someone my weight I was devastated! I knew my weight and binge eating had gotten out of control and that my weight was at an all time high but never did I imagine I had tipped the scales at more than 300 lbs. I was also diagnosed with sleep apnea which is what had claimed my mother's life in her sleep so that was the moment I knew I had to make a change or die far too young and began doing research on weight loss surgery. After attending a couple seminars at different places I found that Newstart was the most helpful with getting my insurance approval and in less time that I imagined it would take I was able to get approved and had my lapband surgery on Jan. 17, 2007, by the day of surgery I had lost a few pounds and was at 341 lbs but this is the day I consider the rebirth of myself... I am still not to my goal weight and have had a few setbacks with the band having slipped and needed to be replaced in Oct. 2008 but I am working toward my goal and feeling more alive than I have in many years! Lapband surgery changed my life for the better and not for one moment have I regretted my choice to have this done!
