Sooo...this is all happening so fast. I am scheduled for surgery on 10/24, next Friday, and I went to my appt w/my nutritionist yesterday. Apparently they expect you to do that more than two weeks before your surgery....because the first thing they gave me was a handout that said, "Dr. Merriman's Diet - the TWO weeks before surgery!" OMG! I asked him in my consultation if he requires a liquid diet before surgery, and he said, "No, but I just don't want you gaining a whole lot before surgery." Then I find out I'm supposed to be doing this NO carb diet...high Proteins and fats diet. The nutritionist said it's to shrink my liver so it's easier to get around it during the surgery.
My question: How important is this? Do you guys think I need to move back my surgery so that I can do the full two weeks of the no carb diet?
Nutritionist also said that overeating in general makes your liver enlarged, not just sweets, so would I be okay if I just ate a very reasonable amount of everything...in moderation?
I sure wish they had told me this sooner!
Thanks in advance for your advice!!!
