    Lifting restriction???

My doctor said nothing over 20 pounds for 2 weeks. It was really hard because at the time I had an 8 month daughter and she weighed about 18 to 19 pounds and I didn't want to push it. So I had to hire a babysitter to come to my house everyday after I got done teaching to "hold" my daughter for me. It made me really sad. By the 12th or 13th day, I was holding her and carrying her- but it hurt a little. I don't regret my surgery- I have lost about 50 pounds in 6 months...

    newbie

well, let me try to answer... I have had my band for approx. 2 1/2 months. I also have a 9 month old baby and a 5 year old ROWDY son. Sooooo, I have taken a few hits in the stomach and I am okay. In the 2 weeks after the surgery- I was really tender, but now it hurts a little if I get kicked by my baby, or if my son throws the football and I miss, but it isn't anything major. Second, the reason for the diet is because your stomach is undergoing a serious change and needs to ease into this transition. Some foods get stuck, some are too hard on your stomach. At some point you are able to eat pretty much whatever you want- just not a lot. "The diet" is to allow you to heal, and not mess up your band. You can research this on this website in the Search box. Good Luck. It is the best thing I have ever done for myself, I have lost a total of 42 pounds so far, (by the way- I was gest. diab. with my daughter and never recovered. I was about to be put on insulin and then I had this surgery and I don't really have any problems with my sugar any more.) and I hope that you get the information you need and make the right choice for you.... :tongue2:

    Tell Me the Bad Stuff

i understand why you want to know all the aspects of this surgery before you "jump in". I wanted to know too, especially if I was going to drop 15 grand for something that was "bogus" or "didn't work". I was banded in October, and I HAVE NEVER ONCE REGRETTED IT. I only regret not doing it sooner. There are things I can't eat without some pain, but I am fine with that. There was no gas, no pain after the surgery like I thought would happen. To be honest with you, the very hardest thing I have had to get through was not drinking while I eat. It was a habit and a hard one to break. I have lost approx. 42 pounds and feel great. What you need to ask yourself is this: Do I have enough self control to lose all my weight with this surgery or do I need something to help me? I didn't get to 300 pounds because I have self control. I needed something to help me. Good luck with your decision. I hope you make the decision to live well, whatever it is.
  6. Drinking throush a straw or drinking while eating. yikes.
  7. well, I am not a doctor, but I will tell you this- my mom and my sister are lactose sensitive and it causes them to stay congested and have ALOT of drainage at night, which in turn causes them to throw up alot- especially in the morning. If you are eating dairy, you might want to see if lactose sensitivity could be the case. Usually in cases of lactose allergy- it is way more severe. Again, not a doctor- just life experience. It may be something to pay attention to. good luck...
  8. I never had any gas pains to begin with and my surgery was on Oct. 24th. I had my first fill Nov. 23rd, (i think that was the date)- 3 days before Thanksgiving. I hope all is well with you... good luck!
  9. yes, I did eat something I shouldn't. About a 2 weeks post op, I was at a party and was talking to someone and absentmindedly reached down and picked up a meatball appetizer, popped it into my mouth, chewed a few times and swallowed. The resulting pain is one i will not forget. I thought I was going to have to have the heimlich done. I am not kidding. I learned the hard way- don't try to push the healing process- because it will push back. Just a warning. good luck, and please don't make the same mistake as me.

    Steri-Strips

I thought I was going to have to rip mine off, because I couldn't stand the nasty look they had. I thought, these can't be hygenic... BUT, I did hold out and all of the little ones (4) fell off around day 10, and the larger one I pulled off- very gently and made sure as I went that the incision looked okay. I was worried I would mess up the glue holding it together. I was a little tender after, just because those areas hadn't been exposed to air yet. If you feel like some of the smaller ones can go- it's your choice... just make sure you are healed. hope this helps...

    Texarkana Bandsters

Hey all, I have posted before- and just wanted to give the update... I was banded on Oct. 24th-no gas- no pain almost at all (my episiotomies were wayyyyyy worse!) and now I have been banded for 15 days. I have lost approx. 26-27 lbs. since Oct. 12th, so- I feel great! I am so happy that I have had this surgery... here's the question: any good mushie ideas. I know that there is a thread for some, but I was wondering if you guys had any more...
  12. my doctor said it was okay to have diet drinks or non caloric caffeine drinks up until my surgery. I think I can still have coffee and I had the surgery 10 days ago... hope it helps...

Hey everyone... I had my surgery yesterday! I am really sore in mid section, but so far no gas. Is that normal? Also, the compression tights keep rolling down. I really need to change to "tall' but our surgery equipment place is closed today. i will probably buy more. Anyways, just wanted to let you guys know- it went well and I feel okay. I will post more another time. Have a beautiful day!

Thanks NewJulie... I am 32. I think the main thing for me is thel lack of energy and feeling soooo hungry around 4:00. The rest of the day is okay. I have a 6 month old and a 5 year old and I teach so I am hoppin'! Thanks for the reply... I appreciate it. I am going to be strong although I already "cheated" and ate a few crackers. it's okay... i stopped at 4, so there isn't much damage... off I go to worry some more!

    Texarkana Bandsters

hi everyone... i am scheduled to have the surgery on oct. 24th, and am now on my liquid/salad diet for preop. I am doing well on the diet, but I have only lost about 4 pounds, and I am on day 6. I am starving all the time and don't know what is going on. I am afraid that my body is not going to be ready for surgery. AHHHHHHHHH! Also, can anyone give me any advice about the upcoming surgery? Anything I need to know about Dr. H? I heard he is very difficult to talk to, so I am asking you that have seen him. I need some advice.... help!
