question on pills!
bmooney364 replied to bobbiezhere's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told to crush all meds or get liquid. I tried the crushing. It was awful. I take some pretty big pills and so far they have gone down with a sip of water. I take alot of pills, and it is impossible for me to do it any other way. I was banded on May 15 and have only 2cc in my band. May become a problem when I get more fills, but hopefully by that time I will be off of most of my meds. Good luck to you. -
Me too, Minx and jessiel2X I am having fill #2 on July 20. My first fill was 2cc and did not do anything. I have read that sometimes it takes 2wks to feel restriction after a fill. I guess that is why most docs want you to wait so long between fills. I have lost about 25 lbs and just pray I don't start gaining. I have not lost anything in about a month. Good luck to us all. Guess this is bandster hell.

3 months out and BS not budging
bmooney364 replied to dancingbutterfly's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I was banded May 15, 2009. I was sure I would be off all diabetic meds by this time, but no such luck. I had a UTI, and port incision infection right after surgery. So high sugar. It hasn't come down much. In fact the doctor told me to stop the glipizide before surgery to avoid low sugar. I take 4 actomet tabs a day. My sugar was 219 random a few days ago, so I went back on the glipizide. I also went to the doctor for a UA to see if I still have an infection and that was why my sugar is high. 200 is extremely high for me and I am eating so little. I have an appointment with my pcp on the 14th maybe he can figure it out. Fasting bs is between 140 and 170. I don't know what is going on... How are you guys bs doing? Any better? -
Lapband Friendly Restaurants
bmooney364 replied to FarmGirl7's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am lovin' ordering an appetizer. It is usually plenty and if I think it won't be I can always order a house salad. The only thing, it is usually cost as much as a regular meal. -
I am 53 and had my surgery on May 15. I have lost about 30 lbs. post op. It took me about a yr. or longer to get surgery. I had an insurance change about the time I was to get it approved the first time. It seems to take so long and I think just about everyone has a horror story about ins. and doctor's office staff. I have got a lot from this board. Just reading the post lets you know your are not alone , someone is having the same problems and someone is at the same stage you are. I also get tips on things to eat. Protein drinks and hi protein foods. lots of good ideas. Good luck to you and ask lots of questions if you need to.

Incisions and the Pool . . . or Ocean
bmooney364 replied to marathonmommy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Have your incisions healed? My surgeon said "no". I was so disappointed. I was on vacation at the beach the week after surgery. Then my port incision got infected anyway. My surgery was May 15 and yesterday was my first splash in the pool. I still have a dried "scab", but I covered it with a good waterproof bandage and it worked. It was so nice. I am a water person in the summer. Good luck. -
You look great. Congrat. on your wt. loss. I know you and your band are working hard.

Gas Strips in addition to Protonix
bmooney364 replied to Iris_L's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, they helped me alot. I take aciphex and took the gas X strips for a wk or 2 after surgery for gas pain. I don't need them any more, but they were a life saver for me at that time. Good luck with your surgery. -
Pcp doesn't want me to get the lapband!!!!!!!
bmooney364 replied to NewSexyMe's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My PCP didn't want me to get the band either. I think he didn't want to lose me as such a good patient. I have so many health problems that he has been treating for yrs. Ha. I know that was not the reason. I was gaining weigh every month also and needed something done. He finally agreed and helped me by sending my entire medical file to the insurance co. I am not sure that was a good ideal, but a few days later they agreed to pay for the surgery. WHatever it takes. Go for it. -
Ok, I had the most wonderful dinner. I ate 5 shrimp and a "house salad". I chewed well, ate slowly. No problems so far.

I am glad to see this post. I am hungry for salad and now I guess I will try one for the first time since banding. I think I will put grilled chicken and a boiled egg in and eat that first then the lettuce. Make sure I get all the protein first. Thanks guys.

Itschoice, I like your ideas. I have been thinking the same thing. I was gaining 2lbs every week or two right before getting banded. Just eating "normally". I think this was due to being on a "diet" for yrs. I could not eat a normal diet due to ruining my metabolism. I haven't lost any wt. for 2 wks. but I have not gained. I am just eating small amts., but food I want and just holding for more fills. I have 2cc in a 14cc band so it may be awhile. I am mostly following the band rules, but if I want a taco or hamburger (without the bread) or a slice of pizza, I have it occasionally. I am eating much smaller amts. now so hopefully my body will adjust and the wt. will start falling off. I want to get started walking, but we are having record breaking temps. here, and I just can't get started. I don't want to get out there and have a heart or heat stroke. I have a walking tape to do in the house. I am planning to get started doing that today. NikNik69 I would suggest a fill if you need it and do that pouch test it should help you get started over with the weight loss. Good luck to you.

I have been on B/P meds for yrs. Since banding May 15, I am having to decrease the dosage due to dizziness. My B/P gets too low and I also feel weak. Hope the doc can help you out. SheeShee I hope your B/P will normalize because I know it is miserable.

Be Honest....
bmooney364 replied to WASaBubbleButt's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I have to agree with Ddiedre. I am an RN and could probably do it , but it would have to be a real emergency. I would not want to risk all the possible complications. Plus right now I am still so fat I don't know if I could do it to myself. I would probably ask one of my RN friends. No! Who am I kidding I am going to ER. I am surprised and would never dream of a fill unfill party. That sounds like a recipe for disaster. -
I add it to milk I like instant Quick, sf chocolate, and low sugar strawberry. I mix it together with the milk and add the protein powder. It is a good sub for those uck shakes. I have added it to pudding. It is good to add to jello when you make it from a box. Unjury also has lots of recipes on their website. You can add it to any liquids including your coffee, soups etc. Hope this helps. It really doesn't change the flavor.

Need help on eating ideas... please share!
bmooney364 replied to wmaodell's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Wmaodell, I was manded on May 15,2009 also. I got my first fill last Wed. only 2cc. Don't feel any restriction yet and my scales haven't moved for about 2 wks. I am not eating or picking that much. I have lost 25 lbs. and think that my body is taking a thinking rest. That and it is too darn hot to exercise. Good luck to both of us. Hopefully the scales will start moving soon. I started at 279lbs. -
Can my body really become a small size?
bmooney364 replied to bunnygirl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thanks for all the inspiration guys. I need this today. The scales have been stuck for a week now. I have an ultimate goal of 150. I will be very happy with a size12. I can not imagine a 4-6, but I can dream. It is so hard to believe that I and others can start out 22/24 and lose down to that small. Fantastic. I can hardly wait. I have a long way to go from current 254. -
Don' forget my favorite. The unflavored. It can be added to just about anything to increase the protein. I keep it on hand all the time.

Just google or word search it. Several places have it. I ordered mine from some Vitamin shop on line, but I will shop around next time because the shipping and handling was as much as the Biotin. Good luck.

First Fill Experiences For The Mayo BANDitos
bmooney364 replied to John337's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I had my first fill yesterday. I have been to see my surgeon weekly due to infection to my port incision. I still have a scab there, but he says it is superficial. Thank God. He ask me if I wanted a fill yesterday. I told him I need one due to no weight loss this week. I was surprised he could do one , but my port is way below the port incision. It was tough for him to find. He said it was deep. I guess because of my fat belly. He numbed it up and other than pressure of him trying to hit the port I could not feel anything. Later in the car it felt like a big bee sting for awhile. He only put 2cc in my 14cc band so I have a long way to go,but I guess it is a start. He told me to make an appointment in one month for another fill if needed. Yesterday was his last day, and I will be going to another surgeon who has agreed to take over his cases. I feel comfortable with the new surgeon and he is in my hometown so hopefully it will work out for me. My surgery was May 15 and so far I have lost 25 lbs. -
In dire need of reassurance
bmooney364 replied to esposa13's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh I remember those days. I took the gas x strips. They really helped me. Day 2and 3 were the worse. Day 2, I mostly sat in my recliner and slept thanks to the liquid tylenol #2. It helped alot. Also remember to get up and walk every hour or 2. Just around your house. It helps. The heating pad also helps. Try to eat something lite. I think sometimes the nausea can be caused by an empty stomach. Hope you are better soon. -
Average age of a Bandster?
bmooney364 replied to Kellster's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I am 53. I was always afraid of WLS. I thought about it seriously for a couple of yrs. I am a poster child for need. Diabetes , heart disease, high blood pressure. I should have had something yrs. ago before I developed all my problems. Better late than never. -
I live in Orange and had lap band on May 15 2009 by Dr, Hahn . I have been looking for someone in my area to chat with. Are you still around?
