And now your DH has one more thing to add to the list of why you are his DW and she is his EX!!! Sorry it was a rush around day on a day you didn't need it---but like has been pointed out, if you hadn't.....they without a doubt would have been there!!! Anyone at work having a birthday you could take the desserts for? OR send them to work with DH!!! Kat

Saline before 1st fill
Kat817 replied to vjstewart07's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What I have found to work best, is just to eat until I am no longer hungry---not eating until I am full. I know it doesn't seem like a difference but it is. And in my house, if I find out that it didn't "hold" me and I find myself hungry 2 hours later, there is always something I can grab to fix that! I have also found that eating that way, just until I am no longer hungry as opposed to eating until I am full, has let me feel like doing things after dinner, etc. I no longer feel sluggish after a meal---I have energy! It is a process you figure out over time what works best for your body, but listening to it closely now will give you great results! Most of us have a STOP signal. Personally, my nose feels like it is going to run---making me feel like I need to sniffle. That tells me to STOP! If I push it, I will give myself the hiccups and by then I am FULL, and sometimes overfull. If I pay attention, the sniffle tells me when my body is finished! I think it has something to do with the mucus formation that would lead to sliming if I overate seriously---like the beginning stage. But that is just my uninformed guess!!!! Good Luck!! Kat -
Just sounds like an attempt to start problems.....hope that is not the case. Kat

Wouldn't it make more sense to ask that question over on OH than to ask here at LBT??? I am not being a smart a$$---just not following the logic. Kat

Donated blood since being banded...Help!
Kat817 replied to betrthnever's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I always do the double donation too. I drink their little carton of juice immediately following the donation, and then through the next while I make sure I drink something sweet---and have a high protein diet for the next few meals. This was on the suggestion of my band Dr. that I follow these guidelines, and I have never had an issue. He NEVER reccommends sweet drinks, but he did in this case----wonder if that might be something that would help you??? Hope you figure it out!! Kat -
But hey in the overall it IS fun work!!!!! And well worth it---whether he remains in the picture or not, as you teach him, you learn new things about yourself, which is ALWAYS helpful!!! Kat

1 day post op and scared
Kat817 replied to uptownmami278's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Most cases I have heard of, in the years since I have been on here---the surgeon as well as the anesthesiologist are PRO active on the post surgery nausea, rather than RE active as has been in this case. Sounds like some of you are using the same Dr. I would ask up front to be given preventative meds. As has been said, there are multiple things they can give through the IV while you are hospitalized, as well as the patch behind the ear (be sure to remove it as told, or it can have some wierd side effects!). Then when you get home there are meds that can be dissolved under the tongue, or on the tongue---even suppositories should it come to that. There is no need for this to scare someone off of the surgery!!! Personally I had no nausea, but have had virus' since then and used the anti nausea meds---it is definitely something to keep on hand and to discuss with the Dr. PRIOR to it happening. Many of us learn that lesson the hard way!!! LOL Hope you feel better soon, and that the other upcoming surgeries go very smoothly. Kat -
Yep Terry----you were one of the first things to pop in my mind this morning when I woke up---I knew this was going to be a hard day for you--I said a little prayer for you before my feet ever hit the floor. Let the emotions go where they may---it is totally understandable. The video sounds very classy. I like the idea of Mom being waved over......it lends such a warm loving feel to it. I did the video of Mom and Dad for their anniversary....all the pics bring back such different memories! We sure are there with you in spirit and as you move on with the service finally behind you----when you need the extra boost---we will always be here! Pamela same for you as you work your way through this with your Dad. We will be with you. We went to an auction this morning, and run into Rick's best friends Dad. Of course the first question....How are you---led to horrible answers. His Mom is suffering (literally) with ALS---and it is progressing to where she can no longer swallow at will. And he just found out he has end stage liver cancer. He refused any biopsies or anything that prevented him from lifting his wife---now no one knows which one will go first. Rick come in and called his friend who is either in denial about how bad it is, or is not being told the extent of things by his family. Rick told him, while he is able to see them both he needs to come home for a visit. So Sad. Cancer affects everyone! I have to wait until I am released from this surgery to have my tests done to see if I can make my 5 year mark---I WILL! I am a survivor! TracyK---I imagine they would have listened if I had demanded the band be removed, but ultimately the biggest problem had zero to do with my band, it was intestinal. The bottom of my stomach had become loose with the extended vomitting, and he restitched it, but he said that was a residual effect of the twisted intestine. We did discuss removal, if he found any signs of erosion, or a serious slip, which he said from the testing was not going to be the case. He said he preferred not to do any extra open incisions if they were not REQUIRED because there was no way to tell if the intestine might leak, which would necessitate further surgery, and would leave me open to infection issues. When he got in he found my band perfectly seated, no slippage at all, still sitting in a nice horizontal manner. But back when I was banded I had not only the external big old pad of fat holding the stomach taut, I also had fat on the stomach inside as well as some on the liver helping to hold it in place. Well with the external weight loss, comes internal weight loss, and then the TT removed the final "hold" so what used to be snug, was now loose and able to flop around. He said that might be part of what was causing problems was like an attempted prolapse, and it could have happened frequently--------but he stitched it back tight, so it will not be an issue now he said. I see my PCP this week, then I am supposed to go back to CO and see the surgeon. Not wanting to do that trip----but we'll see! Laura, I know exactly what you mean, I fit into a small pair of pants at Walmart, and I wondered what people who really are small---as in petite and even short---do? Hope your appointment helps you lots! Judy! I just got your card! Thank you so much!!! I know TracyKS has a birthday coming up-----hers is the same day as both Ricks and my Dads, and our DD Abbey! When we exchanged the info I remember seeing she had the same birthday as all of them! I need to go to the grocery store and come up with an idea for dinner. I feel like eating something different, and yet don't have a clue what I want to cook.....something easy. I am just tired, so taking it easy. Becky and I might go to the movie this afternoon----do a Pamela---because Becky cries with the best of them!! We used to rate chick flicks on the number of boxes of Kleenex Becky needed!!! But we both want to see the Nights in Rodanthe, and the boys not so much!!! We'll see, she is off getting her hair cut, so depends on time. Will check back with the rest of you in awhile.....I need to get some water! Kat

Walked to dinner and home, and exhaustion has taken over, I am off to bed, will check in with everyone tomorrow! Nighty Night! Kat

It really IS a cute shirt Tracy, quite similar (but not exactly) to one I have!!!!!!!!!! Kat
-
Hope you feel better soon TracyK---do you still have the kids to run herd on? Not sure what is on the agenda here for the weekend.......what I want to do and what I can do, are not jiving!!! LOL Pamela ---- gonna get in your skinny dipping time??? No fair, swimming is one of the things I want to do and can't!! Rick has gone with my Dad to cut firewood, I am reading, and relaxing......and BORED!!!! Kat
-
I must state first that I do not work outside the home--------so, with that in mind, last count I had over 50 pairs of flip flops of all different kinds and colors!! I do the monthly pedi, and love my flip flops----all of them from dressy to rubber pool shoes!!! I can match dang near anything I wear......however I wear a pair of black Teva multi straps with almost everything!! Sheer laziness!!! Kat
-
Not me---I have no new ones clothed and the PS's pics are mostly nude!!!! I WILL bring them to share with my Vi's tho!!! Besides the fact that when we went to TX y'all were supposed to hold a seminar teaching Jane and I how to post pics---and it didn't happen!!! LOL We is still in the dark ages and don't know how!!! Kat
-
Laura I agree 100%---like I say my kids got scammed on Craigslist----so you have to watch every transaction!!! I am so glad you got a referral, just knowing someone is taking your pain seriously has to help--it does when I hurt, to know that someone is on top of it!!! Terry, I think telling them to buy what they want to look at was the best way to deal with that type of thing! Kat

What weight for regular size clothing??
Kat817 replied to KarenG.'s topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am 5'9" and in the mid 150's now----I can easily wear a size 8 pants, in almost any style or waist height.....but there is no way I can pick up a size 8 top or dress and even get it over my shoulders!!! I still have to buy large tops to fit the bust, a 14/16 minimally. I do have to say that as I have been shopping this year, replacing my clothing....the styles are AGAINST me!!!! For years with my height and weight I needed longer tops----could I find them? Oh hell no!!! Now fast forward to today, when there is no belly to hide, and every top you find comes way down over the hips..... Where is the justice??? LOL Kat -
Yep Darcy, every one of my Dr.'s has reiterated to me how serious the intestinal issue was, and how dangerous the dely could have been. But for some reason as soon as we get a band, any stomach issue is automatically about the band. In my case, the repeated vomitting did cause the bottom of my stomach to come loose, but the band was fine, it had not slipped at all! I will be more demanding next time.....that is for sure! I too thought you were living full time at the cabin....we is sooooo confused!!!! Pat hope your weather clears soon. It is kind of chilly here, I went for a walk, I am making slow walks around the block 2-3 times a day---and it was chilly this morning! The colors of fall are changing fast, the big old Cottonwood Tree in my back yard, is the brightest yellow you can imagine, and the wood vine growing down the fence behind it is just as bright red-----sooooo pretty. Too bad it means snow will be looking back at me soon. Think we will take the van Sunday after the parents get out of church and take both sets up into Colorado to see the color change. Rick and I usually take a bike trip way up into the mountains and do some pictures......not thinking I am up to that yet!!! Sherry------I think I can absorb food through my pores.....so sewing my mouth shut would likely do me no good!!! Well I am off to unload the DW---and clean the kitchen back up. See you girlies in awhile! Kat

Good morning girls, Feeling chilly out here this morning, I just come in from a walk----trying to build myself back up slowly---and believe me it IS slowly!!! I have a chill!!! Thought seriously about walking even further and getting a cappucino!!! BUT, that was too much further to walk, and kind of defeated the purpose!!! So TracyKS did you mention the surgery to Charles? TracyK---sorry you have the crud now----with all the stress everyone is under, and all the germs, I am not at all surprised you are sick---so sorry, hope you feel better really quick. I found some Peach Sorbet that is soooooooo good, and not nearly as high cal as ice cream, and it would feel good on your throat too. And the FUZE drinks I drink, when you freeze most of them, they don't freeze into a block---they kind of end up in a shaved like form, and you get vitamins and the cool feels so good on your throat. The stuff they sprayed mine with for the EGD---blistered mine---big nasty blisters----so I have been using everything imaginable to soothe the throat. My son brought me a case of liter bottles of Dasani----and cool, not ice cold water is working best. We are talking about going to a movie today----but not going to hold my breath.....Rick is already out in the shop working, and it seems to go on forever----but it IS worth it! Made an appointment to get my hair cut on Tuesday----then sometime next week we are having pictures made. So far only one DD and her DH have not committed to be there, and if they don't come---so be it. I will do pics with who is there, and have family pics made of the ones who are. I am sick of letting the whiny SIL schedule our lives. He works a regular schedule of 8-6 M-F.....but he HATES being with us, and finds all kinds of reasons not to do things. However if I offered to take them to dinner (at a place he approves, he would be there in a second!)---so I am done, I will not cater to him anymore! We are doing a big birthday cake following church a week from now for my Dads 75th birthday. Gotta get going on that! At least now I feel like doing it, unlike for my MIL's, when I was so sick! I think this Sunday we will take the van, and both sets of parents (after church) and take them north into Colorado and look at the color change---Fall is in full color, and it is beautiful. Take them all up to see, have lunch & come home. Rick and I usually take a bike trip up, but the thought of that is still a bit too much!!! Well, guess I will go unload the DW, and clean the kitchen back up. Everyone have a good Friday!!! Kat

Ballgame was uneventful other than our lame butt coach pouting and not speaking to anyone, she is such an infantile drama queen it is pathetic!!! Went from there to Chilis with some of the team, and just getting home. Took a shower and am now ready for bed. Oh yeah, we lost......again! Will look in on y'all in the mornin'!! Night night! Kat

Sso now Terry is expecting a new addition too.....part of me is VERY jealous!!!! Then the part of me that likes to take off for most of the summer weekends, says.....mmmmmmmaybe not yet!!! Rescue dogs just seem to know they were saved and make such loving companions. There was a letter to the editor in our paper today from someone who saved a dog the day she was due to be put down just over 5 years ago. She was malnourished, and had bad teeth and a tumor on her face/nose. The woman took her planning to at least have her know a kind human before she passed away. She had several strokes in the years between, but always bounced back and became a bouncy, happy doggy....til her last days a few days ago. The woman said originally when she rescued her she was angry at the people who used her to breed until she was not able to be a good breeder anymore, but she come to thank them for allowing her to have such a loving pet. Those stories make me want another dog! I will likely adopt a mutt from our local shelter when the time comes----I'd like a little border collie mix....we'll see, my DH is like you he wants another golden retriever---which is what he had. And he goes on and on about how smart she was! Michelle thanks for the card----she sent me this card that has a cat sitting in a bowl of salad----I am telling you I would not have wanted to be the person responsible for taking the angry looking teeth showing cat out of the salad!!!! It was so cute, and you are a sweetie for sending it! Went with Rick to buy the wiring for his shop, and he is out there pounding away----cable is hooked up, phone is hooked up, electricity is to the shop, now he is installing all the outlets, and switches and junk. They did the breaker box and all that jazz already. We had a hand carry basket full of switches, and plate covers and boxes that those go in, and a roll of indoor wiring---the roll of indoor wiring was like $50.00. It was 250 foot of it, because that was on sale cheaper than the 100 foot he wanted! So the kid rings it up hits total, and our total is like $12,000.00 some dollars!!! I said I don't think so!!! The shop didn't hit us that hard! He looked all shocked, and for some reason he had looked at the fact there was 250 foot of wire and charged 250 of them!!! Can we say VOID fast enough???? So they fixed it and $80 later we left!!! Someday the shop will be finished enough when he gets enough of me he can go to his man cave to escape! I found something else to put with my Secret Santa gift today!!! Rick has a ball game tonight. The game the other night was a fiasco! Our friend Jason got kicked out of the ball park, and there was a HUGE fight type thing, because the field ump made a bad call--the 2nd baseman pulled her foot and the runner was safe, even the plate ump overruled the field ump---but Jason said "Go back to Walmart" where I guess the guy is an undercover security guard and he got livid!! Come storming across the field, and ordering him out of the park, and spit was flying from his mouth. Then he went and told the head umpire that all this crap was said that wasn't! Jason was sitting in front of me, actually at one point had his elbow on my knee----as he turned around and talked to Leslie, La Donna and I---we were right there, and this ump is saying he challenged him, and also told the head umpire, that he referred to her as a dyke----which was totally untrue we had not even known she was involved. So tonight might get interesting, it isn't like our team needs all the umps against us, especially since none of what he said was true!! One of the secretaries who is from the other company team, but was there watching, typed up a letter detailing what actually happen, and she contacted as many of us who were in the stands as possible to sign it. Guy had a chip on his shoulder over working at Wally I guess!!! While we were in the mall today we bought the grandkids snowsuits and coats. They were putting out the girls, and Rick thought that one was too perfect for Kinsey so we got it then we found one with race cars for Connor. Bought them that and some cozies (warm footed jammies). He seldom gets to kid shop with me----he is more extravagant than Granny!!! Will check in later----still in swell hell. Itching is better, bruising is getting colorful. A week ago I was in surgery as I type! I am SOOOOOOOOO much better!!! Kat
-
Hi girls!! TracyK you are too sweet to be worrying about me!!! I had to go to Albq. with Rick for his annual cardio appointment. Which went WONDERFULLY!!! The last 2 years following his ablation (cauterization of inside the heart) there is a pressure number that they have been watching and hoping it would come up and normalize again, and it did!! The normal for the pressure is between 55- 70 and he is 63!! Perfect!!!! She was thrilled with his condition, his weight loss, his BP was like 120 over 62 with no meds at all! She ask how he lost the weight, and he told her I had had lap band surgery and for awhile he ate his meal and the other half of mine, then we finally figured out to share one meal. She ask how I did and where I went. Said she refers most of her patients to either Phoenix or Lubbock for the surgery. But I found it interesting that she as an electrophysiology cardiologist would be referring patients for lap band!!! He told her about my surgery, she looked at my poor blue belly and told him the same thing I did, that the bruise is from the intestine problem, not band related at all, because it is clear on my right side! So we come home last night and Suzanne sent me a present, I felt so special!!!! Thank you so much for the tshirt Suzanne!!! Rick says---"That's cool, and it is the good color of blue for your eyes too"---who would have thought he would pay that much attention! THANK YOU!!! What a sweetie you are! So I am back to a soft diet today, my Dr. called yesterday while we were shopping. I have new issues! He wants me to seriously concentrate on keeping my protein up while I heal, and wants me to up my calorie intake to between 2000 and 2500 for a week! And to try to make it a healthy intake......how?????? I mean I can get that many calories with ice cream and candy---but my gosh I have concentrated on eliminating calories and now to increase? Something about re supplying the gut he said. He was telling me the intestine (which he always calls my gut!!!---I always think of my old hanging belly with that word!) works as a storehouse for nutrients and I broke the bank, so now I need to make extra deposits so it can have the excess to draw on as my body has a need. So Rick made me eat this meal to die for!!!!! We went to Texas Roadhouse! I had a rib, and a piece of his steak, and a few bites of potato (loaded of course) and mushrooms on the steak, and some onion strings, and half a roll...it took me 45 minutes to eat dinner, and I drank with my meal, which was wierd! But I am really drinking to stay hydrated. We also went to Old Navy---I bought 4 shirts....Large ones! I wanted to buy pants, but I am so swollen and lumpy and bumpy right now, I just decided to wait. I tried a pair on, but it was too much work to do that, I just did not have the energy for the dressing room. Next time! Laura, I think we are going to have to make you like a Weight Watchers counter thing!!! Each day you need X amount of fruits and veggies, and X amount of milk.....and as you eat them you can move your counter cards!!! Glad you are getting more than it sounded like, that little baby is hungry in there!!! Haydee so glad you have power again!!!!! What a relief for everyone to be getting back the necessities. Wish I could send you guys the food items you want. Unfortunately by the time they got there, they would look like the ones already there and no good!!!! Judy enjoy your weekend!!!! Pamela---wouldn't it be nice to be able to get together and make up a spaghetti dinner??? TracyKS---WOOO HOOOOO PS here you come!!! Same thing my Dr. told me about the different surgical incision options for different ways we each carry our weight, and whether the mons lift is needed. I know my incision is like totally different than like Boo Boo Kitty that showed hers on the healing site. Hers looks like a smily face, mine is nothing like that----mine is also a lot less visible. Mine seems a bit like a moot point right now I am sooooo swollen! But today is a week----and I feel so much better I cannot even tell you! I am so thrilled you have a way to work it out!!! Yay you!!! Terry---when does your family come in for your Moms services? I wish we could be there with you for support--we will be in spirit....so will your Mom! Jane, glad you made it home ok. You shoe freak you! As bad as my DD. Remind me not to ever let the 2 of you get together! Ms. Marcos watch out! Jenn---you ok? Michelle--whats going on? PTA got you all tied up with this weeks extravaganza???? Denise---get the house back in order from the leak? My house looks like a dozen tornados tore through. Bags here and there, and me too lazy to deal with them!!! Well I need to go see what else happen while I was gone, first thing I did was check in with my Violets!!! First things first!!! I DO have my priorities in order without a doubt!!! Check in with you girlies in awhile! Rick is off now until the beginning of the week, so my life is gonna be wierd---don't worry.....I will be back to normal when he goes back to work!!! LOL Kat
-
To heck with waiting til Alabama......what time's dinner???? Kat
-
Pay me what the surgeons make, and I bet I too could be a morning person----I could afford to sleep and work MY schedule!!!! Good Luck tomorrow!!! We'll see ya in bandland!! Kat
-
I thought the same thing when I thought of friends "seeing" and then naming my parts I had an Eeeeewwwww moment!!! I thought perhaps it was because I am an old lady compared to many of you.......!! And for what it is worth my gyno did see me, and there was no screaming nor uproarious laughter involved. He was just totally freaked out over how much weight I had lost!!! Kat
-
I agree it seemed that when I got to the mushie stage I was back to eating so many of the things I was trying to avoid before!! I spoke with my surgeon who allowed me to puree vegetables---I had heard of others using baby food, but to me that is waaaay too bland, so I pureed vegetable Soups and home cooked food, and made it through. While not OD'ing on the carb laden things I was trying to learn to avoid! You are not alone in thinking there is a screw loose in the logic!!!! Hang in there, soon you will be able to adjust your diet in a more permanent fashion, and eat for overall health not just the seating of the band health. For now, it is WELL worth eating as directed and letting your band set in just right. Kat
