Everyone else ate green chile smothered burritos, I ate a bowl of the burrito filling with extra sour cream, and I ate that one bite too much, and feel it still....someday I will learn!!! Kat

OMG Pat---I never knew!! I am sipping my water right this very minute!!! I have not had a "Coke" by name in years and years...ick!! However I drank Diet Dr. Pepper until a couple of weeks before I was banded. Now mostly water, occasionally iced tea, or a juice drink. Another good thing the band did for me, getting rid of the carbonation! Interesting bit---thanks!!! Kat

I too shred everything with any account #'s or my name or address etc. I send back the prepaid envelopes to credit card companies, magazine offers, etc. I figure they can pay the return postage. When my shredder bag gets full, I take it to the local animal shelter, they like to use the shredded paper in their cages. Mine cross cuts the papers, so it is near a confetti state. I figure, if it is shredded, and been used as cage liner, not even most thieves would wanna try to dig through that!!! Kat

Sorry I don't have any answers for you. I have pretty serious restriction following my 2nd fill. I have 1.75 cc.'s right now, and feel very little change from the restriction I got right away with this fill. Mainly I thought this would bump your question, and maybe someone else would have an answer. if not maybe when others show up in the morning. I hope you find some answers!!! Good Luck! Kat

Hi All-- Sitting here wishing I had not ate the last bite I did of supper, it is sitting way to high for comfort. WHEN will I learn??? Mary--hope you are feeling better! Patty--Here's hoping your attorney gets quick and positive results for you. I bet it is difficult waiting so long for a paycheck, heck I whine over 2 weeks! Diane--I loved the pictures...awesome job! Hope the hose & rest help your legs. My Mom has severe varicose veins, but has also had issues with DVT, so they won't do anything for hers. She lives in hose, she buys the sheer support ones, but hates it. Luckily I did not get them from her, I am like my Dad, we pack on weight everywhere but the legs, we look like big ol' eggs on toothpicks!!! Eileenie--hope you get some LBT time soon! We miss you!! Darcy--you off playing somewhere??? Anne--how did the party go? We need to have some sort of dinner here for the September birthdays in our family. I have my son, my MIL, a SIL, 2 nieces (make that 3, one was just born on the 13th!! ), all with September birthdays. I will have a special dinner for our DS, he has already ordered chicken fried steak!!! We will also have a group dinner, but I am putting it off as long as possible...petty of me, but I am!! Cindy--Friday is almost here, and another week closer to being finished with work!!! Betty--A raise wooohooo way to go!!! I think everyone could use a little extra. In addition to the knowledge that someone is appreciative of a job well done!! Good For you!! How's the foot doing? It is raining here, and cooling down, I almost ask you if the weather affects it, then it clicked that you are not here!!! Nothing wrong with me that a few hours sleep or a good shrink couldn't fix!!! Pat--Wouldn't it be fun to meet everyone, I always think the same thing. Maybe we should all ask Santa this year!!! Well I did our 3 walks today, and managed to get to Curves. I think right now every muscle in my body is sore!!! Day before yesterday I helped my Dad mix and pour 2 cement slabs in the floor of the shop DH built for him. Each slab was 12X10. So it was a lot of cement, I moved so much sand and gravel...I was wiped out!!! Still managed to do Curves that night. Then yesterday we (DS and I...while DH moaned about his restrictions) loaded and hauled, and unloaded and stacked 2 cords of firewood. I could hardly wiggle last night!!! Today is better, but I wanted to work out some to keep the muscles from getting any more sore!! I am definitely making progress though, when we did the wood, I worked non-stop for a minimum of 3 hours. I could not go that hard for that long before. It felt good. I kept thinking... "burning calories...burning calories!!! Well I am off to move a little, take a shower, and see if the moving will help my food settle down just a fraction....I hate when I do this!!! Thunder & lightning, so off with my 'puter for awhile!!!Talk to y'all soon! Kat

April 2006 Bandits September Challenge
Kat817 replied to Ceparano's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi!!! Well today DH and I only did one walk, we walked just over a mile. BUT I also worked with our DS and loaded 2 cords of firewood, hauled it home, and unloaded and stacked it. A solid 3 hours of non-stop hard physical labor. The key word there being "non-stop". We have hauled firewood pretty much year round for us, our aging parents, and even our kids. I had to do more work this time because my DH cannot do it yet (he just had open heart surgery for a valve repair). This time I did all the extra work, and did not require rest time!!! I have had 2 days of hard manual labor, and my poor body is sore!!! They measured my body fat ratio when I joined Curves, it was not done on a scale but with a hand held device, it too send the current through. I think I will ask my Dr. when I go in next!! Keep up the good work guys, everyone seems to be doing so well, looks like we have this challenge whooped!!! Way to GO!!! Kat -
How will I keep my secret in this situation?
Kat817 replied to sweetsue's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I agree that especially in a small town, (I live in one as well) it is going to be hard to keep it a secret. There are some people you need to tell, such as your primary care Dr. While I know and understand the privacy acts, that means squat to the former employee who has seen your file. Your future care depends on the Dr. caring for you to be fully informed. And like Wheetsin said, there are times, that you will NEED someone to know and understand what is going on in your life, for your own safety. Also for emotional support as time goes on, I believe. I could have hid mine easily for the first 2 months, my restriction was low, and while I ate much less than my previous "normal", I was eating "normal" for say a thin person. Now that I have some serious restriction, I eat even less, and take longer to do it sometimes, just depends on the day. While your dining partners may be busy eating their own meals, and likely will not notice, the one person, who almost always it seems, asks if there was something wrong with my meal, because I ate so little of it, is the waitress!!! You do not have to take out a newspaper ad and announce it, but I too would strongly suggest you do not lie, or make up a story about another surgery... somewhere... somehow it comes back and bites you in the butt!!! Carlene, I think your thoughts about telling about your band so it may help another person is a great way of looking at it!! I had never thought of it in that way! Good Luck, I hope you find a happy medium, where you can be comfortable in your groups, without feeling like you had something of importance chopped off!!! Kat -
I would just like to say thank you for being so willing to share your progress and results with those of us seeing a tummy tuck in our own futures. Your openness is appreciated! You have done an amazing job! You are an inspiration. May your life now be all that you had hoped it to be!!! Kat

April 2006 Bandits September Challenge
Kat817 replied to Ceparano's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi everyone! Well yesterday was the first day this month that I did not get in my time. I rode with my SIL to get a fill, and it is a 12 hour round trip...we left early, got home late, and I did nothing but ride. Today however was a different story!!! I did my 3 walks with DH, we logged 2.6 miles today. I also helped my Dad and my brother mix, and pour 2 cement slabs. I am a cement mixing fool let me tell you!!! And I literally moved almost a ton of sand and gravel, and 8 - 80 pound bags of cement. We built my Dad a shop, and we are putting the floor in. Then this afternoon, I got in my Curves workout! So I did my penance for missing yesterday!!! I know the goal was 15 in the month, but I told myself since DH has to walk everyday I could do it everyday---then I missed!!! Tomorrow holds at least double workouts for me as well. Will be walking with my DH, and my DS and I are going after a load of firewood, at a place where it is cut, but you have to load your own truck, so we will load our truck and an 18 foot trailer to a depth of about 3 feet. Then when we get home it has to be unloaded and stacked. I'll tell ya that firewood warms you up many times!!! It is hard work, we have done it once already this year. This will be the first time we have to do it without my DH to help. And that will be a big difference, he is a work horse!!! But this will be enough to get us through the winter. We only turned our heater on once last year. And only then because my newborn grandson was here, and I wanted the temperature to remain steady for him. Sounds like everyone is doing so well!!! Welcome and congrats on the workouts Bluehill!!! I have no idea how they test for muscle, heck I just read how they determined my fat ratio!!! Let us know what you find out! Keep up the great work everyone!! Kat -
HELP! REALLY FREAKED OUT - question
Kat817 replied to Malice X Girl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Quite a few years ago, my Grandma had her gall bladder removed with the old surgery style of a HUGE long incision. She had suffered through months of attacks, and they finally removed it, as they had seen, it was full of stones. A week after coming home, she had another attack of the same type, and continued to have them over a couple of months. They finally ended up going back in and found a stone lodged in the duct that remained after the gall bladder itself had been removed. The duct ended up looking pretty diseased the surgeon said! All from a lodged stone. I don't know if this type of thing could happen today with the advanced testing we now have, but thought the info might help someone out there. I sure hope you find out the cause of your problems!!! Good Luck to you! Kat -
Hi all!! I love the house pics! Anne, If you can keep a house pristine while raising and enjoying those little ones, then you would be doing much better than I ever did!!! You know, now I can keep my house clean without much effort, until the kids and grandkids show up!! And there is a HUGE difference between family clutter and filth...I don't think you have a thing to worry about, seems your priorities are in good order! My biggest issue at this time is the house is simply too small. We thought downsizing after the kids left home was a good idea...it wasn't. We are talking about building, or even buying modular....we have land, so it is something we discuss more and more often lately. Keep this place as a rental, which is what we had it as, prior to the kids all growing up! And Anne, thanks for the compliment, you are too sweet! I spent the morning mixing and pouring cement with my Dad and brother again, while DH frothed at the bit! He is begining to do more things, but lifting is still a big no-no. He ran water and did all the "gopher" jobs. I want to hit Curves, but not sure if it will happen! Well, Pat you may be on to something, I probably should have been more assertive at the Dr.'s office with my SIL. My MIL went with us, as did my DIL and grandson (I for the life of me cannot tell you why!) It is a 12 hour drive round trip. My poor grandson was so unhappy in his carseat for that long. Anyway, my MIL went into the room with her so I thought she would speak up, she is not known for keeping her mouth shut!! But he gave her a prescription for something like "Raglan" (sp. is iffy) saying he didn't think her esophogus motility was right. But he gave her a good size fill anyway. He put her up to over 2, when she was only at 1.5cc. She tried drinking a thinned milkshake on the way home, it was a no go. She tried a cappucino, it wouldn't go either. She is at the local Dr. & hospital now having a swallow screening done. While we were there in CO for the fill she got a call her SIL had passed away, so she is due to leave for TX tomorrow. Not sure how it is going to play out. Meanwhile, I am very unhappy over it all. On one hand I do not know if she was honest with the Dr., so I cannot say he was being negligent (that spelling looks so wrong...but you'll figure it out!!) But I find myself feeling like WE are not as important as I had hoped we were, that maybe the money is a bigger issue. Maybe I am reading too much into it. He talked to me, and they weighed me. I am down 32 pounds since my fill in July. He was thrilled with that. He remembered to ask about my DH. The Dr. has had heart valve surgery too. so maybe it is just an issue with my SIL. She may not have been totally upfront about how bad it has been, or about her eating habits. Meanwhile my MIL, tells everyone that my SIL would not have had this surgery if it wasn't for ME!! LOL....always me!! I am SOOOOOO bad! Anyway guys, there was a very nice woman there exploring the lapband surgery, I gave her the LBT site, and told her this is where she could find me to discuss it outside the Dr.'s office. So if she shows up...make her welcome for me until we connect, I know you will! Mandy--I hope your pup is back. But girl I have something I need to discuss with you. You might have to quit looking for the puppy and come rescue me. If I buy anymore silver jewelry my DH may indeed kick me out of the house!!! And YOU my friend are responsible for me finding the site!!! $6.00 at a time adds up when I keep finding things for the DD's and the DIL!! I am so pathetic! While you guys are off playing Pog, I am spending money $6.00 at a time, and it is ALL Mandy's fault!!! Just kidding, I wanted to say thanks!!! I love the website so much!!! Dianne--I would love to get the judge!!! I will tell you all a secret, my DS has a get even plan!! He had trouble with another neighbors dog, it got ahold of a skunk that DS had trapped. He is once again having skunk problems, so he says if he gets another, he is tossing it over the fence to those dogs!! They are all in the house as well as out, so skunk odor would be a problem!!! Will it really truly happen? No, but it is a fun fantasy!!! Cindy--I just love that you are so AMERICAN!! Many of us, cried and watched, but you took it to the point of being fully informed. I respect that more than I can tell you! At the time, I could not as a Mom with kids in the service, put myself in a position of feeling like I knew too much, it was too scary. My neighborhood has had flags on the houses, many have poles in the yard, all over the place. I figured they would gradually come down, but they haven't, they have flown steadily. I put mine out saying it would come down when my kids come home. Well thank God above they did come home, but even then I knew many had not yet, so it stayed up and is up as I type. Well my Dad is off to Plano TX tomorrow to see his best friend for likely the last time, the friend is dying of cancer. I am going to go give Dad a haircut before he goes. I will try to get back in later to catch up on all of you. DS and I are going to go get a load of firewood in the morning, so if I don't get back will see y'all tomorrow sometime!! Kat

Oh yeah--here are the directions I got from a friend for posting my before and after (actually during). Go to the bottom where you would hit the Reply button and there is one that says ADVANCED, click it. Once there you have to title the post for some reason, but just type in something, "pics" or something. Anyway after that, underneath the window where you normally type there are several options, one of them is MANAGE ATTACHMENTS, click it. At the top then you click BROWSE, find your pictures on your computer, click UPLOAD. Once that is done, close the box and click SEND at the bottom of the original reply box. You can only post one picture at a time this way and have the picture show in the text itself, if you upload more than one at a time, it does like yours did in the prior post, and show them as attatchments you have to click to open. Good Luck, there are some really computer savvy people on here, who can help you way more than I can!!! Good Luck! Kat

Where in CO are you? I am in NM, and use a fill Dr. in Colorado, in fact will be going there tomorrow with my SIL to get a fill for her! We have family all over CO! Way to GO on the weight loss!!! Has it been difficult? Look forward to hearing from you! Kat

As for cooking your chicken...I can tell you what I did with mine. I just cooked mine in some chicken broth ( you can buy it canned, by the soup), so it would stay very moist. Then I could add it to other things, to make a meal as I began eating solids again. I take either a whole chicken, or already cut up parts whatever you have available. If you use a whole chicken, thaw it in the fridge overnight, and you will have to reach inside it and remove the bag of heart, liver, and gizzard. These in my house go right back into another bag labeled Chicken Yuck in the freezer and my DS uses them to go fishing!!! Anyway rinse it out, and put it in a large pot, with some chicken broth, and water if needed to bring the level up about 1/3 to 1/2 way on the chicken. Toss in a little salt, and a stalk or 2 of celery, you can add some onion if you want, or if you have other spices available, you can add them, but it really isn't necessary. Cook it with a lid on it, over a middle heat setting, let it come to a boil, then turn it down a little bit. Checking occasionally to make sure your liquid is not cooking away, which will happen more quickly if your pot lid is not tight. Cook it until when you poke it in the thickest part of the meat, the juice runs out clear. A meat thermometer is the safest way to be sure it is cooked completely but I am unsure of the temp you would need to cook it to. The cook book will tell you tho. Remove it from the fire, let everything cool, and then you can remove the chicken and take the meat off of the bones, and use it in whatever way you want. It may be easier to start with either chicken breasts, or thighs, and do the same with them. It is easy to do, if you once get started, you will surprise yourself about how much you probably already know! Kat

With arms like mine, you take a chance at lift off by merely waving at someone! Kat

Sounds like it is time to buy a good basic cookbook. Try the Betty Crocker, or one that is similar. They don't have a lot of fancy recipes. And it also will explain some of the cooking terms you will come across. Like, what it means to saute something, or to baste it. If that is not something you can do right now, I would be glad to help as much as I can over the computer...I manage to cook my way to dang near 300 pounds!!! Good Luck, and if I can answer anything specific, just let me know!! Kat

Hey Patty--thanks so much!!! I'll tell ya I was so afraid to post my before picture on the Picture thread!!! But, now that it's done, I felt like it was a good move, everyone has been so nice!! I need to make myself put it out there, so I can see where I do not want to go back to! Glad you had a good birthday! We took my Mom for her first pedicure last year on Mother's Day, and we created a monster, she is a regular now!! Same thing happen when we sent her for a massage a few years ago, when she was diagnosed with fibromyalgia, she now goes every other week, without fail!! Wonder what we can introduce her to next?? OK guys--several days ago Beannie was saying she had run! Well yours truly can run too. While we were at my inlaws tonight, DH and I went for a walk ( gotta keep walking!) and so we went down their lane, along the property line, and down to the river. Well this witchy neighbor, she turned her dogs loose on us. DH yells "RUN!" I saw a big a$$ dog running at me, I seriously hauled some butt!!! Turns out there are 4 dogs. A great Dane, and 3 (you are NOT going to believe this!!!) Saint Bernard/Basset Hound cross dogs. DH stopped and grabbed a stick, and I realized he could not go further, so we each grabbed a stick, and they didn't challenge us, let us cross the cattle guard, and they went back when she whistled after we crossed. My FIL has sold her hay for the last couple of years, he even delivers it for her. he was soooo mad, he called her right then and there, and told her, not only would there not be any hay available to her, that the next time he sees the dogs on his property he will shoot them. We all know better, but she likely does not. She is a judge in a neighboring county! She tells him, only one of the little dogs has ever bit anyone. It was then she told him what they were!! I love dogs, but these are some UGLY ones!!! It was scary as hell, DH can't be running my Gosh, he is recovering from heart surgery! Anyway, I was walking the loop around the house after my run, and realized, I wasn't even short of breath!!! All together, run included I got in a mile and a half!! Anyway, I am going to ride with my SIL tomorrow so she can go get a fill. I will be very disappointed in our Dr. if he gives her one. She has ulcers on her esophagus, and it is spasming, she cannot eat much of anything besides mushy food. She is not a good patient! She does no exercise of any kind, eats all the things she is advised not to. She ate the day we got out last fill, she just couldn't take it (her words). She did not want to drive alone, and I fully understand that, so I am going, but I am curious to see if she will be honest with him, and what his take will be. I am hoping his concern will be for her and not the almighty $$$. Will let you all know tomorrow night. Anyway, I am not going to get to the rest of my personals---know I am thinking of all of you! See ya tomorrow night! Kat
-
Yeehaw--Betty rode her bike!!! I won't tell DH, he thinks he at least has you to commiserate with!!! sorry you had to cut the outing short...maybe soon you can be up and going again. I think I will come to your house for supper!!! Veggie soup sounds so good!! We are having a cookout for my MIL's birthday. Nothing fancy, DS is grilling burgers. Which usually goes down easily. I'm making a dish of baked beans, that way I KNOW I can eat something!!! I like keeping some sort of soup made or chile, so I can heat a bowl as I want. I have potato soup in the fridge right now, and to be honest, I would prefer to just nuke a bowl, and stay home...but no can do!! Dianne--I too have sent Donna a PM. I am just hoping her computer took a dive. I have no other way to get in touch with her...the members list shows her last post to be on 7-28-06! Has it really been THAT long??? Says it was the photo's of her sons AF graduation. Worrisome. It still surprises me sometimes how important all of you have become to me! Glad your throat is feeling better. Mine was sore the other day from refluxing on hot green chile through the night. I will learn someday...maybe!!! Eileenie--I agree-get your nails done!! I don't do the manicure much only if something special is coming up in the wintertime. But summertime, I love my pedicures!! The girl down the road owns a salon, and she does mine. She paints flowers on my big toe toenail. It feels so good to have them massaged, and lotioned up! And you don't have to bend over and do it yourself!!! I cooked some country ribs the other night, but I shredded them for sandwiches. It is good for me to just heat up a small amount of the meat, and it has a lot of taste!! So many things that are healthy for me, seem bland!!! Picky me!! Well I will catch the rest of you tonight after the cookout--DS and DIL have both called now wanting to know when we are coming!! So we are off!!! Talk to you in awhile! Kat

April 2006 Bandits September Challenge
Kat817 replied to Ceparano's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
So far I have kept up the walking each and every day---amazing how I am able and force us to go since it is DH's health...and yet my weight has been a health issue for years, and I could not make myself do it!! I think the weight going down and actually seeing results as quickly as I have since banding is the difference. I would lose motivation before. Plus it is nice having him to walk with. When he goes back to work next month, I am going to face doing it alone again, at least for 1-2 walks a day. We are discussing going greater distances and only going twice a day so he can begin developing a schedule to coordinate with work. For now tho, it is helping!!! Our Curves is only open a short time on Saturday, and closed on Sunday. So I missed the weekend. We met the family for a buffet breakfast yesterday...they SOOOO make $$$ on me!!! Anyway, afterwards, we took our DS, DIL, and DGS, and went to garage sales. I was exhausted afterwards!! This is my youngest grandchild, he is only 6 months old, and already 20 pounds!!! Hefting him in and out of the carseat, and carrying him around the sales, we kept trading him out...that was work!!! TY so much for your concern over my DGD, she is doing better today, she is all smiles, and ate like she had been starved!!! Used to be she and i would share a meal, not so much anymore...she eats more than I do at times! I am hoping the worst of her illness, whatever it proves to be, is over. She was playful when we saw her this morning. Was so good to see!!! Everyone keep up the good work!!! It is helping!!! Kat -
I agree that seeing that would have just broke my heart! My DH and i were reading an article in our local newspaper last week about a grade school PE class. They had a picture (front page---it is a local paper!!!) of kids driving pedal cars in PE. They were saying they do that, and all kinds of fun things. Pogo sticks, working with parachutes, not just running laps. They were going to go to the college and do the climbing wall, and go skiing this winter, and fishing in the spring at a local dam. It was something that we thought might delvelop outside interests, and starting early may be the key. On another note, we were driving through one of the fastest growing cities in the Southwest the other day on our way to his Dr.'s appointment, and passed a new housing addition. Every bit of it, and we are talking nice homes, starting in the $200,000.00 range, is xeriscaped. Which makes sense with the fact we do live in a desert...but I felt so sorry for the kids growing up there!!! They may have nice homes, and pretty bedrooms, but they have nowhere to play! There is a park every so often, but how do you let young kids go play? No trees big enough to provide any shade, most of the green is cactus...not kid friendly. No grass to lay in, and swap stories. The ONLY outside anything we saw were a few swingsets, and a few of the portable basketball hoops. And we wonder why so many kids are playing video games nonstop??? Our society has made it unsafe to allow our kids to run free as we did, and now even their own yards are nowhere to play. Didn't mean to go on, just a couple of thoughts that this post made me think about again!! I know it is not an answer, but it is heartening to see so many care about this!! Kat

April 2006 Bandits September Challenge
Kat817 replied to Ceparano's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi! Julie, thanks so much for your concern over my little DGD. There has not been much change, she was feverish and slept most of the day. She is a little tiny thing. She was born prematurely and weighed in just over 4 pounds, now she is 21 months and weighs almost 20 pounds, so she has done really well, but she looks so little when she is lying still and sleeping all day. Poor little love. I will for sure let you know. Thanks again. We only got 2 walks in today, it was raining hard all morning, so we stayed in. I did get the other 2 walks and a Curves workout done. I am really liking the Curves!!! Maybe it will help some of mine come back!!! Kat -
I did as my Dr. said and did 3 meals a day, until my last fill. With it, even though it was not a big one, came restriction!!! I can eat hard protein, so I am not too tight he says. My meal will sit for a good 2-3 hours. Which I know is the goal. However, it only takes 4-6 bites, and I am full. I don't think I can get decent nutrition at that amount of food, so I do eat between meals, and snack on nutritious foods. Even then I can only do a few bites, so I don't think it has hurt my weight loss. I just figure 4 bites of an apple, or 5 bites of green beans, are good for me nutritionally, and not adding any more calories, than if I had been able to eat them with a normal meal. I am interested in seeing the answers you get!!! Good Luck all! Kat

Unflavored Protein Powder, Do You Or Don't You?
Kat817 replied to ItsGottaGo!'s topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I keep a jug of Unjury unflavored, and if I feel I have really not got in enough protein I add some to my food, but not a lot, I try to get most of my nutrients from food. I have added it to gravy, or spaghetti sauce even. It does alter the taste as Sherry said if you use too much. I use it in my shakes still. I flavor them with SF flavored syrups, so it masks it pretty well. It would likely not hurt to have things on hand, it is easier than going after them when you are recovering. And I order the unjury so it takes a couple days to get here. Good Luck!!! May you have a speedy recovery!! Kat
