    April 2006 Bandits October Challenge

Today we made 2 walks, and went just over 3 miles, and then I hit Curves. I don't know an exact time---but easily over 35 minutes...I did my one month weigh & measure today, and was down 7 pounds and 5 1/2 inches in the month...the biggest loss being in my bust.... My bra band is getting very big, the cup size remains unchanged...dammit! Oh well...will take it all!! As of today I am exactly half way to my goal weight!!! I have a feeling the second half will be harder...but here we go!!! Kat

    Band Friendly Med!!!

I bought mine in Texas last week, and have stocked all the cars, my purse, my gym bag, everything!!! They don't taste great, but they dissolve quickly, and most importantly they worked!!! And you can carry them around, so much easier than the huge bottle of liquid!!! Kat
  3. Hi Raynie-- Congrats on making such a great decision!!! You have found one of the best webistes around--there are so many knowledgable people here to help you through any questions that come up--just ask! My opinion on the drinking and eating thing....I was just like you, I drank huge amounts when I ate, I weaned myself off of soda, but I drank ice tea by the gallons! Well when I was first banded, I can't say if I felt any different with drinking as I ate, I truly tried to follow the rules. Now, following 2 fills, I have found restriction!! I have 1.75cc in my band, and drinking with food is an engraved invitation to a PB! It feels like the liquid goes in and floats the food right up into my esophagus. Not sure exactly what really happens, but thats how it feels to me!!! I am at a point now, where I don't really miss the drinking with my meals. I wait for about an hour and then drink as I want. As for how it feels to be full...have you ever eaten and eaten at Thanksgiving and it feels like you have no room left to breath, let alone eat another bite? It is similar to that for me, after only a few bites. I now eat approximately 10-12 bites...small ones, mostly protein and veggies, and I feel totally full. I have learned the feel of it before getting to the miserable stage, for the most part...not always. Sometimes I am talking, or not paying attention, and wham!!! I am overfull! But since I am feeling full, and seldom feel really hungry, I don't feel deprived. I eat so much less now, that if I feel a craving for something sweet, I have a bite or 2 and am fine with it. I love my band!! My surgery was very easy, no serious pain, no gas issues. A very uneventful surgery and recovery...I wish the same for you!! I too went to Mexico, and flew home the 3rd day without issue. I am even learning to enjoy exercise!!! Who woulda thunk it??? Good Luck to you!!! Kat

    October Chat

Hi all-- Wow Dianne-your pic looks so amazing!! You have done an awesome job in a year, I sure do hope I can make such a change!!! I am glad you had a wonderful time, and got a special treat from DH...you seem very happy. Makes me smile! Welcome back. Oh and btw, I see my toes too, all I gotta do is bend over!!! I went to bed flat one night about 12 yrs old, and woke up "fluffy" with monster boobs, and have not stood straight and viewed my toes since...not thinking it is likely going to happen. Yeah, yeah, yeah Beannie laugh it up....commode snakes were not funny!!! However want me to capture a few and send them to the gal who got your job??? I mean we have all heard of "an eye for an eye"...we could take it to "a bite in the a$$ for a bite in the a$$"!! Now my FIL calls and says the neighbor said the description matches a water moccasin...ewwwww! I am taking an old toilet seat and making a stitchery to staple to the back that says "Home Sweet Home of the Comanche County Commode Snake" to hang on the wall behind the potty! Cindy I popped in earlier when you saw me, to post the fact that I am now officially half way to goal--have a feeling it was the easiest of the 2 halves....but on we go!!! Anyway, I was just getting started when my brother showed up, so I am only now getting to post it!!! Darcy--have fun with the new van!!! I do drive a Dodge Intrepid, and I loooove it, but, it is getting lots and lots of miles on it, and DH is talking trade in...makes me very sad! We too will likely look into a new van, we have grandkids and aging parents to haul around!!! So what did you end up choosing to buy? That is one of the things I let DH do the Consumer report look up on!!! I choose features I want, ones I HAVE to have, ones I want, ones it would be cool to have and then the "oh wow who even knew that was an option"!!! Hope everyone is having a nice evening, it is so nice out here, the perfect temperature, not hot, not cold...we have this for 2-3 days then it goes one way or the other!!! Kat

    April 2006 Bandits October Challenge

OK, I posted in the Sept. challenge before I found this!!! Not going to relive the TX trip, again!!!! I forgot the 2006 when I did the search....duh!!! Anyway.....count me in!!! Today we took 2 walks, and cut and hauled a cord of cedar wood in....wish I could claim that as my new and different work out, but lately hauling wood is a normal thing for me!!! My niece is supposed to come over this next week, and we are going to learn to hula hoop again....her for the first time, I am going to try to relearn it!!! I used to be good....used to be, as in a lifetime ago!!! She needs an adult to be in a hula contest with her....grass skirt and all, and her Mama (my niece...little one is technically a great niece) is due to have a baby in a month...she fits in the hula hoop even less than I do!!! So if I ever get the hang of it again, that may count!!! I figure the belly is my problem area, so maybe this is a good thing to do!! I have seen some girls bring a hoop into Curves and do it on the recovery stations....hmmmmmm Good Luck guys....Off we go into October shrinking by the day!!!! Kat
  7. Well I made it home from TX, and we all survived...although it was questionable at times!! I did not lose any weight...possibly a pound...but only possibly!!! We had a series of disasters when we got there, one of which was the stove no longer worked...so we ate out or with family every meal...not very productive to losing weight. And then the other problem, was me, and chocolate covered pecans....too many of them!!! However with all this I feel happy that I didn't gain anything!!! I got a guest pass, and was able to get in 3 workouts at the Curves there. Other than that, we chased and loaded over 50 head of cattle to take to sale...we built approx. 800 feet of fence (t-post with hog wire, and 3 strands of barbed wire on top), hand driving the posts no less!!! Spent one day walking around a big celebration Pow Wow they had going, I logged 15,000 steps that day, and I only wore the pedometer at the pow wow!! Then we spent a day chasing and separating our cows from the neighboring ranch they went visiting at...have I mentioned yet how much I hate cows??? We stayed busy, I feel I met the challenge without problem. Thanks for all the encouragement everyone!!! It sounds like you all did wonderfully!!! What does the October challenge entail? I am ready---I have a weight loss goal for this month, or I will not see "ONEderland" by Christmas!!! I am so glad to be back!!! I missed my house, and I missed my LBT!!! Good Luck on the October challenge....someone let me know what I am in for!!! Kat

    October Chat

I’M HOME!!!! It was a good time, but OMG I am glad to be home!!! I love my inlaws, but I love them best in their own house, and me in mine!! We do not get a moments peace, it is always something needing done, and I end up PO'd!!! It was hot...I packed a mix of clothes, and got by! I did not lose anything while there, but we ate out and at families everynight, and I ate so many chocolate covered pecans, I am surprised I did not gain a ton! We had one disaster after another, we got there, some of our cattle had got out, and were on a neighboring ranch. It is getting so dry that he was throwing feed, while ours were still grazing, and they said the hell with that, and went AWOL!! We had not been to the place in 8 months due to DH's heart problems, so it had been closed up for a looong time. We shut everything off, and drain it. DH turned on our water and broke a valve....fixed it, and turned the water on finally....prepping the house, turned the water on, did a check of the faucets, tub, etc, flushed the commode, and up come a snake....yep, scared me outta needing the commode for awhile! Best we could figure, is it took advantage of the dry septic, and got in through a leech line and into the house. DH killed it...only to find another the same way. Staying there was a trial. The stove went out. So on the bright side, I did not cook a single thing, or wash a single dish for 10 days! And once we got water in the system, no more snakes. We now refer to them as the Comanche County Commode Snake.... So we spent days chasing cows, culling the herd, selling cows, birthing calves, medicating cattle, building fences to keep them in...building them a gate to get back through when they managed to get beyond the fence anyway.....so my hands are sore. And for once it was not my bed I was anxiously awaiting it was my own precious snake free home potty!!! GLAD to be home! Safe trip, thank the Lord! Betty--We went to Comanche TX. Central part, SE of Abilene. Was not fun, lots of work, and I am soooo glad to be home!!! YES I recorded the season premier of Grey's Anatomy--but missed the 2nd week...was hoping to be home, but no such luck! Hope you had a wonderful b-day!!! How did the bike event go? Awww man I just read how the day went that sucks big time!! We have road in the rain, and as you say it is not safe, all the oil from the cars, it floats up, scary!!! Glad you kept your head about you. Beannie--I am sooo jealous--but New Mexico and New York are miles apart in oh so many ways!!!! I thought I might envy your traveling, but I am just so friggin glad to be home!!! Of course our accomodations are also worlds apart!! Darcy--I know I am far behind--but hope your glowing time is over--and you survived it!! ( I am cheating and responding as I catch up on personals!!!) I can relate to your wedding fears. My DH's ex is the same, 5'2" petite, and likely not 100 pounds soaking wet. BUT he is there with you because he CHOOSES to be, and like it or not she knows that! Put one of those secret looking grins on, like you know something she doesn't and hold your head high!!! Rita Ann--WTG on surviving a family weekend (with the ex no less) and not using a food crutch!!! I am proud of ya girl!! Eileenie--tooth pulled?? yuck, gotta go back and read how it turned out!!! Glad you survived the dental fun...Will continue to pray for your niece, as well as your family. I looked at your clothes you bought...I like! But all my weight it seems is in my big ol belly--I'd have a dozen people ask me when I was due, as if!!!! at 46....makes me tremble in fear!!! Chris--tomorrow is your day!!! WOOHOO Cindy--dang was hoping to read on that you were the lotto winner---maybe next time!!! I am so glad your DD did well, how proud you both must have been did ya get pics? Pat--I know people with implants, and of those I know some are happy, some not....no advice!! 2nd opinion seems the wise road. Mandy-hon, I am so sorry about your foot, waiting to see if it turns out good....however don't you get to the head of the line in a wheelchair?? Enjoy being with DH, and come back refreshed for the kiddo--one of the best things you can give her in life is happy parents. Hope you are busy, busy, busy having a wonderful time!!! Sherry--sounds like stress is gonna be the ruin of you!! We gotta figure a way to get rid of some of it! Maybe you need to try Rita's theory on sex every other second!!! Oh I mean when you are stressed...oh looks like I had it right the first time! Jumbo--welcome! You found a great site, and the best group of people around when you popped in here!! Ira--I have heard nice things about you--nice to meet you! Anne--good to see you! Patty-continuing to pray that things come through for you in a timely fashion, and in a way to keep things calm in your family. I hope that your son has settled into a routine in school, it is so hard being a teen! OK time to unpack and do laundry woo hoo will this fun never end???? Kat

Paid for surgery out of pocket?

Yes Veronda...817, is indeed August 17th....however I notice, yours is just a few ( ) years after mine!!! Good Luck in making your decision! Kat
  10. Well guys, I am off to Texas for a week to 10 days. I will not be able to make Curves...but I will be mending fences, and ear tagging cows, and all kinds of fun exercise things!!! We will keep up our walks...we have several hundred acres to walk on!!! Will be in touch if possible through an Aunts house. Our place has no land line phone service...we rely on cell phones, since no one lives on the place full time, so I will have to access somewhere else. Keep up the good work, and have faith in me, I will be getting my workout!!! Do I get extra points for all the control it will take to keep my mouth shut at times??? My inlaws will be going down for several days while we are there!!! I love them dearly, but love them most when we are both in our own houses!!! Be back...and hope to be down several pounds by then!!! Kat

    September's Chat

Well we are off to Texas in the morning, will be gone for a week to a week and a half. Will try to get over to an Aunts house and check in... our old farm house, we don't have phone service, just use our cells if and when we can get service!!! So even my laptop does me no good!!! I have to tell you, I am not excited over this trip. My DH is going to try to do too much. We have cows out, so a fence is down, and guess who is going to try to get in on the repair...looks like a battle a brewing! And his folks will be down at some point while we are there. I love them, but I love them most when we are each in our own house!!! It gets to me to always be careful. My MIL would not say sh*t, if she had a mouthful of it...so I have to be very careful, she offends easily. I could go on and on about minor silly issues, but over a period of days confined to close quarters together, those little issues add up!!! So wish me luck my friends, and I shall return...none too soon!!! Take care of yourselves, I'll be thinking of you!!! And Cindy and Betty and I will all be in the same state...which is not saying a lot considering the size!!! But it sounds good!!! Talk to y'all soon! Kat

    Meds that we can take

It was never my underdtanding that these meds were dangerous to the band itself. But that it is harder on the lining of your stomach because they sit in concentrated amounts in the smaller pouch for extended time. I wasn't told not to take anything, he just explained it would be a higher likelihood of things upsetting my stomach due to this. I have eliminated all my prescription meds thanks to surgery. I use the liquid Tylenol, and if I have to take antibiotics ( I pretreat for dental work) I soak them in a little warm water, soften them up and swallow them same as always...no problem! Good Luck! Kat

    My cry for help

Oh Leigh Anne--I am so sorry, I have no answers for you!!! If you were still in NM I would race over and at least give you a hug--and try to help! I do think maybe a slight unfill would ease some of your problems. Once your stomach and esophogus are irritated it seems to start an evil cycle, maybe it would stop the cycle, and allow you to heal, and be comfortable again. I hope your move ends up being a good one, I can only imagine the stresses involved. For now, stay in touch here on the boards if nothing else we can provide some moral support. If you can talk to your banding Dr. maybe he can help with referring you to another Dr. If not I can share my fill Dr.'s # in Colorado, and his office help is super nice, maybe they can help you find someone close to you...in the meantime, hang in there!!! Kat

Paid for surgery out of pocket?

I had been denied by BCBS of TX, 2 times, and was going to have to do a lengthy documentation process all over again, because I was injured in a car accident in the middle of my first documentation period. In the end, I received a settlement from the accident, and used it to go to Mexico and have it done. Almost 5 months later, and I am down over 60 pounds...if I had waited to attempt to redo the supervised documentation thing, I would still have 1-7 more months of that to do...Instead I am halfway to goal, and feeling AWESOME!!!! It is a personal decision, only you know what your finances are, and how your health will react to the continued wait. For me self pay was the right answer...no regrets at all!!! Kat

Hi everyone!! Well we survived the fair and the fair survived us! We had a great time. Ate all the wrong things...so now I have to get back on track, but it is so great knowing I CAN get back on track, unlike pre-banding!!! We took our pictures in the little photo booth where you get the strip of 4 pictures...and we both fit in...side by side!!! Our motel was nearby where we were going, it was great. DH also got an excellent report from his surgeon, his echocardiogram and his EKG both show a normal function, with no blood backwashing like it was. His sinus rhythm is normal (which can be a problem when they decrease the size and shape of the heart like they did his). He is still having some minor palpitations, so we have to go back in a month...but we can do that! The Dr. seemed pleased...so us too! We also went and looked at some homes by a contractor we are interested in...and found something we really liked. Now we just have to make a decision whether to do it or not!!! It was a great couple of days. I know my DH has been home for weeks now, but it was so good to get off alone, and enjoy being with him, knowing his health is returning, and we can be us again...if that makes sense! Now we will be leaving for Texas in a day or so...we want to be there by the weekend. Will let you know. Darcy--laughing my butt off with you, not at you, but I cannot believe you had not heard about Brokeback Mountain. DH says to tell you there is a sequel it is going to be called Reacharound Ridge..... Cindy--Come on up--we'll go see the balloons!! We hoped our next Dr. appt. would coincide, but the balloons are in 2 weeks, our appt. in 4. Figures!!! Anne--if the job is what you are wanting, then I hope it is yours. I am perfectly content right now being home and playing with the grandbabies. I ran a daycare for 20+ years...now I am glad to simply have these guys!! I felt like I had run my course...I was ready to call it quits. I woke up one morning, and just knew. So I quit accepting any new kids, and began the weaning process. As it was one little girl, she kept coming, she had been with me since she was 5 1/2 weeks old, and I had her until last year. I am named as her guardian if anything were to happen to her parents, she is part of my family, many of them are. She is 14 this year!!! She only quit coming to my house every day, because her Mom's work hours changed, and she couldn't get the timing right for picking her up. I still have her here a couple of days a week, and Rick or I run her home at night. She spends far too much time alone otherwise. She helps me cook, she helps with the babies, she just doesn't like being alone all the time. Her Dad is out of town with work a lot, and her Mom works the 3-11 PM shift now. She has an older sister, who is engaged and with the fiance all the time...so she comes to us!! Megan is the one of the highlights of my life! Eileenie--enjoy your day with DD...sounds fun!! Betty--how's the TX weather? What should I pack? Some of everything I figured!!! Patty--let us know how the boys are adjusting! Pat--sounds like it may be time for a restraining order! Psycho B#@*h!! Rita--WELCOME!!! Mandy--hey girl!! I only spent $12.00 the other day on silver!!! Ooops bbl....I have Cheetos to clean up! Where did she get a bag of Cheetos???!!!! Kat

    I am married!!!

I too was always told that rain on a wedding day signified good luck, and a lasting union...so sounds like you are off to a wonderful start!! Congratulations, I wish you many, many years of happy togetherness! My advice would be....that just as important as saying "I Love You" is remembering to say "Please" and "Thank-You". Congrats MRS. Kellie.... Kat

Ingrown toenail --I can fix that~~ sleeping....in jammies or in the buff?
  21. I agree, any workout when you aren't feeling well is an accomplishment! Be careful you don't want to make yourself worse! I am having trouble with my signature, I cannot update my numbers, it says I have too many characters.. But I am not trying to add any, in fact it would be decreased by several....but it says no...so I guess I will go in and redo it and delete some things, and see if it helps. Frustrating me!!! Anyway, I have completed my walks each day. I have not done a lot of other things!!! I have made Curves every other day. I will be gone the next couple of days. DH has an appointment in Albuquerque with his surgeon for a follow up, so we are going down for that and going to spend the day tomorrow at the State Fair. So I will definitely be getting my walking in. Now I just need to stay away from some of the fair foods!!! Thank goodness for restriction!!! As for sweet spots...not sure, but where I am now is good for me. I eat, pretty much anything, but in extremely small amounts. A few bites, and I am done. My weight is dropping at a pretty steady regular rate, and I am not hungry. I feel lucky to be at this point. It feels like a good combination. Not sure if this is what is referred to as the sweet spot or not...in my book it would be. Will chack back in with everyone when we get back from our little getaway!! Keep up the good work all and feel better soon Ceparano!! Kat

Hi guys- Just stopping to let you know I will be gone for a couple of days. DH has an appointment in Albuquerque to see his surgeon for a check up on Tuesday. So we are leaving tomorrow and going to the State Fair while we are there. We try to get there when we can, it is usually a toss up between it and the Balloon Fiesta. They have an awesome balloon park. You can walk around among the hundreds of inflating hot air balloons. They do huge mass lift offs, where they just go several dozen at a time. They have a special shapes balloon fly, and a night time balloon glow. It is so pretty!!! But we have a lot of fun at the fair too!! We went originally when we were 24 yrs. old. We had our caricatures drawn...now each time we have an opportunity we have them redone! They make us laugh! Anyway we may actually get to do both, the fair and the balloon fiesta if his Dr. wants to see him again at the right time next month!!! Hey I have a question, maybe someone can help me. I went in to change my weight ticker, and my challenge count...and it says I have more than 1000 letters in my signature, including my BBE code (or something like that) so it cannot be done. I am not adding anything, just wanting to change the existing numbers. Any idea what I can do? Where am I messing up? Sometimes these things make me feel so dumb!!! Well it has hit a cold spell here!! We actually contemplated a fire this morning!! I know once this cold front moves through we will warm up a little again, but it feels like Fall. When we went to Colorado to get wood last week, the trees were begining to change colors, lots of gold & red dotting the hillsides. If my SIL is not heading back to surgery, we may go to Texas next week, and check on things there. We usually go in November, and take care of the pecans while we are there, but with DH off now, it may work out better this way. My SIL had the fill last week I was worried about, and has not been able to eat a bite since. She has times she can swallow some liquid, others she cannot swallow her own saliva. She contacted her PCP here, but refused to call the Dr. who does our fills until tomorrow. He scheduled her for an upper GI on this coming Thursday. She had gone to Amarillo to a funeral, so put it off thinking it would pass, and it has not. And I have not uttered "I told you so". I want to say so many things, but as an outlaw I cannot. Ok, I am thinking of all of you, as you deal with all these scary things...Eileen your niece will be in my prayers until all is well again. Darcy, same with you...my friend had the radio active iodine...worked great for her! They shoot me full of radioactive dye for my bone scans (part of my cancer crap follow up, I still have 2 tumors). So another friend bought us both Glow worms for Christmas that year!!! You might need a cuddle up glow worm yourself!! Cindy, hope that headache stayed away. Sherry, keep Mom close, sounds like she is going to need some extra lovin' right now. Mandy & Dianne, I'll be thinking good doggy thoughts for y'all!! Betty, Mary, Patty, Pat, Anne, Beannie....Miss you guys!!! Take care all, will talk to you soon! Kat

    September's Chat

Awwww Geee guys, I wish I really truly deserved all the nice things you said!!! I have to make myself do anything!!! I enjoy the Curves, it is a break, I feel good about what I am doing there. I love my DH and my DGD with all my heart, but that little break in my day is so welcome!!! The other things, life is requireing (that is soooo spelled wrong!!!), they are not exactly a choice!!! We need firewood....and if I don't help my Dad, since DH is down, he would be working alone, and he isn't a young man...I mean I am his daughter, and even though I am still a Spring chicken...:pound: he is not getting any younger!!! Well I will get back later, right now the DGD NEEDS to be held!!! The weekend is upon us!!! Kat
  24. I travel from the Farmington area to Canon City, CO for fills. Feel free to PM me if you need any additional information. Good Luck on your relocation! Kat
  25. I have had several experiences with hair loss, sad to say!!! I am a cancer survivor, I lost it in the process. The hair I lost, was a medium blonde, and straight as a board. The returning hair was darker and curly...I was lost! I have no idea what to do with curly hair!!! The first time I lost a good amount of hair, although it seems minor in comparison to the total loss I must say! I lost it following my divorce, and I cannot tell you how I lost weight, other than maybe stress, but I had lost about 50 pounds. It grew back in similar to before, but a shade or so darker!! The last time I lost a lot of hair, I was doing Atkins religiously. Which is why I do not buy into the lack of protein being the cause. If you have ever done Atkins, you know you eat 90% protein!! I thought it grew back because I quit eating the Atkins plan. Now I wonder if it had just reached the point you all refer to, where it finally begins coming back. Regardless, I can tell you the hair did come back (although not as quickly as the weight I had lost!!). It also seemed to be darker, although the texture only changed following the chemo. I am noticing the hair loss starting, but it has not progressed to a severe point yet. Last time during the Atkins thing, I almost burned up the vaccuum, it had so much hair wrapped so tightly around it!!! Good Luck all---we shall get through this too!!! Kat
