Carlene---I bet this didn't help your recent opinion on caregivers one iota did it? Seems like Mr. P's new fiance could have worked for ANS! $$$$ rules a lot of people. Kat

I waited too long for a fill

I recently read a post by a bandster who had been unfilled and not using her band for over 2 years. She sucked it up, went to the Dr. they did not berate her or anything...she got her fill, and is begining to work her band again. That is one of the major advantages of it---it is sitting in there, waiting for us! Call your Dr. hang out with us for support, and get it going again, now that your life has settled down a bit. Please accept my condolences on your loss of your Dad---and I hope your life is settling down now, and you have some time to devote to you and your health. Kat
  4. I responded to your question in the other thread....while you were moving it I would guess!!! Kat

    Fave comfort food?

Mexican food----one day enchiladas would be my favorite, the next day it might be chimichangas, the next day rellanos----heck I could comfort myself all week long!!!! If it isn't available---I would have chose potatoes....they too can make me happy in multiple ways....mashed, fried, scalloped, baked................ Kat

    Stomach bug and the band

Poodles---if the ginger ale helps you with nausea (and it does a lot of people) you can get crystalized ginger to eat at most health food stores. I have a banded friend who swears by it for acid reflux----I keep intending to get some to try. I too keep phenergren on hand. Used it about 2 weeks ago when we got the glorious "going at both ends" kinda bug. Sure was glad to see THAT one go! Kat

    3 more days

You both will do wonderfully!!!! The band is a wonderful help in getting the weight OFF for good!!! I found the surgery to be an easy one, of course everyone reacts differently. I was up walking within hours....and walked every little bit, the nurses laughed at me. It worked for me tho! Welcome to LBT both of you! It is a GREAT site for support!!! I think there is a March band group on here----you might do a search under March---and look for it! Check in and let us know how you did!!! Kat
  11. Good point argon, I have never used any of it, was just going by what my hand outs from the fill Dr. said about metamucil. Don't think I could choke it down anyway!!! It may have been refering to the pill form too----I can't really tell you! There are some good plastic surgery threads---pics and all! Now not necessarily the ps that Yoda referred to!!! Kat
  12. hi! Welcome to LBT!!! There is a great April 07 bandsters group going. You can find them if you do a search under April---it is called April 2007, head start on spring...or something like that! They are a really supportive group, and one you will enjoy having pre surgery to help ease the jitters together, and post surgery, to chat with, compare, and commiserate, the post op diet, and all the other issues you are concerned about. All of you going through it around the same time, makes it so nice!!! I totally enjoy my April 2006 group for that reason!! It was a fairly simple surgery in my opinion, but every one is different of course. I took it wasy, for a few days, but by no means was sitting in bed---I was up, doing minor things around the house, cooking, went shopping etc. Not a big deal! Liquids for the extended time---is not fun---but we all did it, and survived it. Although at times, you swear you won't....that is when having all your April buddies dealing with it too will help you! Hang in there, look up the group---and soon you will be in bandland!!! Kat

    New Here

Hi! Welcome to LBT! There is a great thread going strong with all of you April 07 bandsters. It is called April 2007 head start on Spring or something like that. if you go to the search key and type in April, it will bring up all threads with that in them....scroll down and you will find it. They are a great group---and will welcome you! It is so nice to have a group of people all banded about the same time you are, so you can compare and commiserate!!! It was a great thing for me to have the April 06 group. We are keeping up with the new 07 group---hoping you guys have as great of an experience as we did!!! We are glad you found the site!!! Good luck on your surgery! Kat
  14. Julie my friend---know I am with you there in spirit---I know things will be fine, and soon you will be a whole new you body wise---one you have dreamed of being!!! Check in with us, here or on the other thread ASAP---we will be worrying and waiting!!! (((((HUGS))))) Kat
  15. Fiber supplements such as metamucil etc. can block up at the band. Many high fiber foods, are just that, very fibrous, and therefore very hard for us to digest...which pre banding, meant we felt full longer, but since banding, that can cause problems. Adding some wheat germ or such I am told is fine, but you need to watch how you eat high fiber foods, and take them very slowly. Many bandsters, myself included, get fiber in the way of cereal in the morning (or whenever!). I had to start very slow, and eat carefully. Chew forever!!!! I would be extremely cautious with laxatives too---they become habit very quickly----BUT used with care, they beat the heck out of constipation, which is prevalent with our high protein diets. Try some cereal or something slowly---and eventually you should be able to find a way to satisfy your bodies needs with food. Which is one of the biggies of this surgery---lack of supplements! Good Luck!!! Kat

    Should I get a fill?

Sounds like a good plan to me!!! I was told if I could eat more than 2/3 of a cup of solid protein, and was hungry within 2-3 hours, then I was probably ready for a fill. It is amazing to me, how different foods do react differently as far as lasting in the pouch longer! Good Luck---hope this fixes your hunger for awhile!!! Kat
  17. Made me smile even bigger Gayle!!!! Kat
  18. Yoda----do not laugh about losing your virginity horesback riding. I was in my late teens---he the same...we rode those horses way out behind the field barn........yep it was horseback riding what did it!!!! Still makes me smile!!! Kat

How did you come up with your User Name?

Most everyone calls me Kat---short for Kathy---and 817---I was born on August 17th! DH actually calls me Kitty half the time, because they used to jokingly call me KittyKat....but KittyKat--seems almost pornographic on line!!!! LOL Kat

    Bmi?

I think I would call and check, since you are so close to that cutoff. I think lianna is right, and that is when it should be notated--but what if it isn't!!! If I didn't get a guaranteed answer---I'd fudge the journal!!! Shame on me....but I would! Kat

  22. When at home, I have a choice, and use different things---silly I know!!! In my iced tea, I like sweet & low---in my cereal, I like sugar, and I do some of my baking with Splenda!!! If I go to my inlaws, it is Splenda in everything. My folks house the same. If I am drinking tea at my best friends, it is pre sweetened with sugar. My favorite Mexican restaurant, has sugar or Equal, so I just grab whatever!!! I believe too much of anything is probably not good for you. I drink mostly water---plain filtered, through the door of my fridge water! But try to live by the "all things in moderation" plan!!! As for the eating so early following the band. I was given an explanation of why NOT to do it, that made perfectly good sense to me. I followed my Dr.'s recommendations for clear liquids, then for full liquids, and even the mushies almost---I jumped the gun by a couple of days with the change from mushies, and had a few bites of enchiladas---which were almost mushie!!! The reasons not to eat were good ones, and were for my own good, my overall health and the health of my band. I have seen Dr.'s who I thought had super strict eating restrictions, and I would have felt the need to ask "why?"---but in this case, he explained the why---and I listened. He explained many, many things. Mine was not an in and out, wham, bam, thank you Ma'am. I felt fully informed, and ready to care for both myself and my band before I left the hospital. I hope jubjub that you do fine, because sadly if you don't---it is the stats on the band that go into the dumpster---because YOU couldn't follow the recommended dietary restrictions. Then when future bandsters look into it, you cause them undo worries. We get lots of newbies or researchers coming to this site, asking if there are lots of complications, they deserve to know stats on banding---but when one fails from user abuse, it still is a failure. I need Help to Help my wife with her Big 0's

TOM--I have thought of you often since our conversation the other day---right after you got the call. I am so relieved it is quite as serious of a situation at this time. You say you and Tina have a different relationship than many would understand. I think many of us do. I know many of my friends are appalled that a woman (especially one they knew to be very self sufficient) is satisfied to stay home and "take care of" her man! We have a very traditional (in the old sense of the word) marriage---and one I am extremely happy in. I have no issue with him being the MAN of the house, because I know in being such, he will just as you have been---putting me and my thoughts, dreams and hopes first. Listening to what you say about Tina, she is much like my Mom, emotionally. My first reaction to you was how I would want it handled with me. That is irrelevent! After thinking about how I would advise my Dad to tell my Mom (just temperment comparisons---not age!!!), I would have ended up suggesting just exactly what you decided!! I realize that doesn't matter a whit to you---but my point is, I am glad you stuck to your guns, regardless of all of us telling you to TELL her....job well done! There is a reason so many people look up to you here. I think the yard work being a surprise to her today, will be a great birthday present. Holding her and letting her release all the emotions she built up on the difficult visit with her Mom will also be helpful to her. Another advantage to seeing you take meds for depression, may be that she would be more open to doing the same, which could help her in what is ahead with her Mom. I wish you continued good health, a happy reunion with your wife on her special day----and a quick recovery for your aching muscles!!!! Kat

Got Children? Got Grand-Children? Read this!

I find that one of the more effective ones too Wheetsin. Another one they had to pull that really tickled me was where they were all at a party, and a handsome man was eyeing a beautiful woman, he puts a cigarette in his mouth and just as he lights it it goes limp....hinting that smoking may cause other things to go limp. The visual was just funny to me! Kat

Had your lap band 3 or more years?

You might need to bump this a few times, there are long term banders out there---but they are not on all the time anymore. You will just have to bump the thread on occasion and try to catch them. Most of them have lost their weight and are out enjoying life I'd guess!!! Seriously tho---there are long termers out there, it is just going to be a matter of catching them. Good Luck on yoru research! Kat
