    December 10th surgery date

I certainly understand that.... here we all are right at the beginning of the holiday season trying to be good and what?? Yes, someone brought YET ANOTHER huge bag of candy! And no, it couldn't be the yucky stuff..... gotta be the best! I do know what you mean about it being rough, but we can do it because we will benefit in the end. Let everyone else eat that candy and gain that weight! WE WILL BE STRONG!!! Hang in there!

    December 10th surgery date

I can only guess, but based on what I see your BMI is, that MIGHT be the reason for the long time on liquids. From what I've read on this site, many of the docs have different ideas about pre-op and post-op diets. For example, my doc requires two weeks pre-op of full liquid followed by 4 weeks post-op of full liquid and two more weeks before returning to real food. Oh well! Gotta do what they say if we hope to succeed! Good luck!!!

    I'm almost there!

Good luck to you... I will say a special prayer for you this morning that God will hold you close to him and make your way through the surgery easier..... bless you!

    Aloha from Hawaii

Best wishes to you! Hopefully you will get that date before Christmas rolls around - what a wonderful gift to yourself! Aloha!!
  5. I work in an out-patient surgical center, and we don't tell our patients to bring anything with them. We do ask them to wear something comfortable (loose-fitting), but that is about the limit of it! Any meds you need will be given to you, as well as ice chips. As I understand from reading on this site, you might be in need of a pillow for the ride home to protect your stomach from the seat belt. My surgery is planned for 11/11..... good luck to you!
  6. I agree with Donna - you have to be honest about what you do or don't do. My visit with the dietitian was apx. 1 1/2 hour long and consisted of making me aware of what I would be able to eat and how I will be able to eat (more informative than anything). I thoroughly enjoyed talking to her, and was made to feel quite comfortable while I was with her. I also got her business card, and she told me to feel free to call her with any questions or concerns that I might have. I am supposed to be banded 11/11, and to my knowledge my one visit with the dietitian is the only visit I will have with her. Perhaps each insurance has different requirements, just as they do with pre-certs, etc.
  7. That is sooooo cool! CONGRATS!!!! Keep up the good work and you won't be able to wear those favorites in a short time.

Help me make the right decision

You and I are about the same age, and I know for me personally, I have never been able to keep the weight off - I can take it off but it comes back (with some added). You know your history better than anyone else..... so....... you have to base your decision on what you feel.
  9. CONGRATS!! I am so happy for you and wish you the best of luck!
  10. WOW! I am so excited for you too!!! My surgery is scheduled for 11/11, so I can relate to how you feel. I think I am driving my co-workers nuts with all my talk about the things I read here! tee-hee.... can't seem to help myself! So... enjoy these days as I am and bask in it - we deserve it. :-)

    Surgery cancelled!!!

I work in a Surgery Center, and sure wish I could have my surgery there rather than in the hospital....... I don't want to stay overnight where I won't be comfortable. I much prefer being in my bed in my house wearing what I want and not having to deal with staff not answering call lights, etc. (To say nothing about infectious diseases that folks tend to get in hospitals!) I do, however, understand your frustration with not being notified sooner. Hang in there, and it will all work out. Good luck to you!
  12. I too have reflux and taking medication for it... not banded yet, but surgery scheduled for 11/11. Are you already medicated? Be sure your Dr. is aware - he/she can give you a prescription for one of the anti-reflux meds. Good luck!

Is anyone's doc as severe as mine?

My surgery is scheduled for 11/11, and YES, you need to hear that my diet plan is the same as yours. I don't know how much reading you have done about lapband surgery, but I have done a ton, and plan to stick with what my Dr. suggests. In all the reading that I have done, I think those with strict diet plans (like our Drs suggest) have done the best..... so what more motivation can we have other than to do great? That's my opinion and don't expect that others have to agree, but it's what will get me through tough days. Best of luck!!

    surgery day nerves

Best wishes!!! Bet you'll do just fine - it helps when you can see that "light" at the end of the tunnel.... much easier to see it with banding than gall bladder. Good luck!
  15. Hi! My name is Cheryl, I am 51 (soon to be 52), I live in Alabama and will be banded 11/11/2008. I am very excited about having the procedure done, and getting more and more nervous as the time gets closer. I had a consult with a dietitian 9/30 and my psych consult is scheduled for halloween (oops!!!)!! I have to be on liquids for 2 weeks prior to my surgery and that scares me too.... gotta get that fatty liver shrunk as much as possible. I will appreciate any helpful information that anyone has to share.

    Hello

Wow..... my surgery will be on Tuesday 11/11, and I hope/plan to return to work on the following Monday 11/17. I hope it works out that way since I have no paid time off left, but either way, it will be so worth it to have the surgery behind me. My job is not very physical..... paper work, starting IV's, giving meds, etc. so that should help. We'll see!

    Hello

Thank you so much for the information. I will have my surgery at Medical West in Bessemer, so we are neighbors (so to speak). I know all about the gas, as I am an RN working with surgery patients. I do expect that to be a problem, but not a huge one that can't be overcome. Do you work? If so, how long were you out of work?

    Hello

Details.... i need details! lol.. Did you have to do liquids for two weeks before surgery? How much have you lost and how have things gone? Are you eating real food yet, or still on liquid/softs? How was the pain after surgery? Hope you don't mind all the questions....
