  1. Hi All, I'm another newly banded. Been looking around for information on banding and came across this site. Hopefully I can get some ideas off here and maybe even help some others going through the same thing as me. I was banded about a little over a month ago and am doing well.

Hi eswearen, Hope you're doing well. Yes you've only been done a few days so you will still be sore until it all heals. I don't know if you should be sleeping on your tummy as that's where all the cuts were. It would be very sore doing it that way but I know it would be hard to sleep any other way if that's what you're used to. I began walking for exercise two and a half weeks after the op but by then I felt fine. Started out at 30 minute walks and now am doing hour walks - but I've always been a good walker. Hey about the chicken broth - yuck - I'd feel nauseated too lol. How long do you have to do liquids for. Have you got a good variety of things for the liquid stage. :smile2:

nazzy, happy birthday for the 13th!!!!! And a week later your op. It's all happening for you. I've lost 24 pounds (11 kilos) and it has been much easier than any diet I ever did before. I can honestly say I've never been hungry since the op.

Nazzy, Double knee surgery. Whooo - that would have been hard. When is your lap banding op scheduled for or don't you have a date yet? You won't regret the lap banding. I am so glad I made the decision to have it - best thing I ever did.:smile2::wub:

Socialdot, Are you taking a Multivitamin tablet? My dietician told me I must be on them for the rest of my life. Were you told anything about that?:smile2:

Hi Firerdad, How are you finding the lap band journey so far? Any problems. You'd still be pretty sore from the op I guess?

Hey Sharyn, Just wondering how you're going. I hope your depression isn't too bad. I hate to think of anyone trying to cope with depression plus a back injury plus just having been banded. It would be hard for you to cope with any one of those things let alone all at once. Take care and if you need a talk let us know.

Ambra, Oh that would be such an interesting job. You must be very well qualified to be put in such a position of trust. Good for you girl. If you are only working 3 days a week I guess you will probably be ok but you might need a rest on the days off. I must say after about 10 days post op I was feeling very well - actually probably better than I had felt for ages. But I didn't stay with the mushy food for as long as I should have. I started eating very well chewed up food much earlier than I should because I was simply needing some "real" food in my tummy by then - my stomach was hurting from lack of food by that stage.

Socialdot, I have just noticed you and Ambra were done on the same day - banded twins!!! I sympathise with you about knee problems as I had a similar injury on my ankle also caused by a fall. It's good now since being operated on but I have arthritis in the knees and ankles. Plus now something's gone wrong with my arm - feels like some sort of arthritis there too. Oh, the joys of aging!!! I'm looking forward to better health as the weight comes off. It's all good this lap-banding you know. Helps improve our health in so many ways.

Ambra, You must work with babies do you? That would be a lovely job - but sad too at times I guess. Well it sounds like you have a lot of supportive workmates so that should make it easier. It sounds like you are doing well if you are already 11 pounds down at this early stage. You're on your way!!!

Hi Ambra, Gee it doesn't sound like you really should be going back to work yet - 12 hours shifts!!!!. Your recovery doesn't sound like its finished yet. I found the anesthetic knocked me around too so you've been through a lot and need to take it easy. Can you get more time off work. It really sounds like you need another week.

Sharyn, I have no doubt the weight will fall off you. Just be patient and it will come. I sometimes think its not happening fast enough but we have to go slowly and be easy on ourselves. Then when I think nothing's happening I jump on the scales and another kilo is gone. It's amazing.

Socialdot, I am 50 and we encounter a whole different set of problems due to age as well. My doc said I was almost certainly heading for diabetes (due to family history) and my main health problem was with arthritis which of course the obesity was making worse. Is your knee problem to do with arthritis?

    Not really sure yet

Ronniekroll, My advice would be to go ahead and do it. I am recently banded and it is without a doubt one of the best things I have ever done in my life. I used to hear all the stories about what a hard journey it was - but it really hasn't been that hard for me. I was sore after the op but have not looked back once since leaving hospital. It has all been good and with exercise the weight is dropping off. Good luck to you with your decision making. The band has given me the control over my eating that I was unable to get without it.

Sharyn80, I just looked at your on-line journal and it's great. You're young and the weight will fall off to reveal the slim girl inside (without any of the saggy bits us older ones can look forward to)!!! Keep up the good work.

Hi Socialdot, Hope you are doing well. Sorry to hear about your knee problems. It must be frustrating but I think you will still do alright as I have a friend who is banded and she's not exercising and she is losing a good amount of weight - so here am I exercising and she isn't and she's doing as well as me - go figure!!! You mentioned problems with a fatty liver. How did it affect you? I was warned before the op that the fatty liver could cause problems and told to go on diet shakes to shrink it. The state of my liver was never mentioned after the op so I presume mine was ok. And if my liver wasn't fatty it certainly was not because I did the right things before surgery (which I didn't) it would have just been lucky. Look forward to hearing from you again.

Hi Sharyn, Sorry to hear you are having some difficulties. The back problem would be a real hassle. I am able to exercise quite a bit which makes the whole lap band experience easier. I hope you are feeling a bit better. I know what you mean about the emotional eating - it's something we all need to try and get around. Good luck. Hope to hear more from you about your journey.
