  1. Hi to all, Just want to let you know that we have a new surgeon in Bathurst, N.B. who does lapband, sleeves and lapband re-route. I met him a couple of weeks ago and my specialist for diabetes and some nurses I know praise his performance. I don't have my date yet. He said as soon as he could get an op-room, I'll have to follow an 2 weeks SlimFast diet and then I would have the surgery. Clempier:biggrin:
  2. Hi,

Don't worry, the sutures are going to melt by themselves. I hope everything is fine with you. Remember, you will have to work to lose the excess pounds. The lapband is a great help but you have to be careful what you eat, how much you and priority: exercice. You will also have plateau even if you do everything right but it's all worth it.

If you have anymore questions, I'll be happy to answer them well, I hope I'll be able to.

Talk to you later, take care

  3. Hi Dona, You're doing very very well. Like you say, if you're able to cook and everything it means you're ready and it's a good thing. I'm sure everything is going to be fine and you won't regret your decision. Keep on the good work.
  4. Hi Dona, I forgot to ask you how you were since you started your Boost Diabetic? Must be harder during the Holidays but it's SO WORTH IT!!!!! So, keep on the good work. clempier
  5. Hi Dona, I don't know if it's going to be the same for you but about my bowel mouvement, of course it's way less than what it was before because you eat way less so it goes together. Eating your fibers helps a lot like "Fiber 1". Usually, every second day I would go. There's no problem with the pills just maybe the vitamins ones but I use shewable ones. I hope those infos. are going to help you. I know before the surgery we have so many questions so if you have other questions, don't be shy. I'll try to answer them the best way I can. By the way, Happy Holidays! clempier
  6. Hi Dona and all the other ones, I'm so happy for you. It's been 6 months now since my surgery and I never regreted one minute of it. I lost 53 pounds so far. It's going down little by little. I have to say that being 50 and having diabetes don't help but putting clothes aside because there too big is awesome. The 2 weeks on Boost diabetic is nothing but you have to stay focus. Because if you don't lose the fat around your liver, they can postpone your surgery. So, think first before cheating. The surgery is so worth it, I would run to have it again. I also stop smoking a couple of years ago and it's more difficult then taking Boost but then again I'm so happy I'm not smoking and I have no desire to start again. Gook Luck,

New to Diabetes and Lap Band

Hi Westonrose, Thank you so much for telling me that. By the way, for a 40 years old lady you sure don't look like it. You look like a 30 year old one. I was banded June 3rd of this year and I lost 45 pounds so far. Probably because I'm diabetic and I'm 50 years old the weight is going down really slowly but at least it's going down not up as it use to be. I have an appointment with my Dr. in 2 days and I'm going to ask if she can ask for that test. Thank you. clempier
  8. Hi to all, Sorry if I haven't be on but I'm a teacher and the beggining of each year are always ectic. As you all know, I had my surgery last June and I lost 45 pounds so far. Being 50 and having diabetese makes it harder to lose weight as fast as I would or could do. Although, doing it slowly is good in a way because the skin has time to replace itself where it belongs. Next month will probably be the last time I go for a fill. For the ones who are wondering if Dr. Savoie is good with the follow ups. Don't worry, Dr. Savoie is a fantastic surgeon and he takes care of his patients. The bariatric teams are awesome. Don't be shy to call if you have any questions. I do call them and they are always nice with me and they won't give you stupid answers. If they don't know, they'll check and call you back. Having that surgery was one of the best thing that ever happen to me. The Boost phase wasn't that bad. The surgery itself and the recovery wasn't hard at all. A surgery remaind a surgery and you have to follow their instructions. At the clinic, there's a poster saying that you can follow a course called "My health, my choice" and there's a phone number you can call if you want to join. I'm going to start a course January 22nd in French at "Le Centre Chrétien Évangélique" in Beresford. Other people give the course in English too. Just call and they'll put you on a list. The course is for people with chronic sickness but after that course maybe you'll be interesting to start a support group just for lapbands. I would be happy to join you. clempier

    Dr. Beausoleil (Moncton N.B.)

Hi Sarah, I had my surgery last June and I'm 50 years old. I'm sending you this message mainly for 2 reasons. The first is to encourage you not to be scared about the loose skin. A 50 years old skin is way looser than a 21 years one one and I can say so far so good. I lost 45 pounds so far and nothing is hanging. I don't know after a 100 pounds but we'll see when we get there. The second reason is to reassure your parents. It's one of the best thing that happen to me. It's a second chance in life and since you're so young, you have a beautiful life ahead of you. On top of that I'm diabetic which you don't want to have. I've been overweight since I was 10 and I ended up being diabetic type 2 when I was 36 or so. Let me tell you this, I would do it again at this instant. I have no regret none what so ever. I'm well and the lapband is a none invasive procedure so go for it girl. clempier
  10. Bonjour Liz,

Pierrette

    Lows and long-acting insulin

Hi Jack, I had my band June 3rd, 2009. I'm diabetic type II and I've been on insulin for 11 years now. My insulin intake is WAY LESS than what it was. My goal was to get rid of insulin. Taking Metformin pills don't bother me that much compare to insulin. I was reading in a book a Dr. saying that if you've been on insulin for more than 10 years, your chance of getting rid of insulin is slight. So my question is: Were you on insulin for more than 10 years? Maybe that Dr. can be wrong and I still have a chance to get rid of it even after 10 years. I would appreciate an answer. Thank you, clempier

Hi numbrgirl, I was just reading in my "New Day, New You" from Joyce Meyer and she was saying the same thing as you about serrending to God. It just confirm what you were saying. I realize I have a hard time doing that and it's as if I didn't how. I'm a do"er", if something as to change I have to work at it. Teachers are like that a lot :wink2: and Moms too. I have to remind me to let go and the only thing I can do is pray. Thank you for the advice. clempier
  14. Hi Geneviève, Thank you so much to let me posted on Keith's surgery. I'm so happy that everything went well. I'm glad he was one of the patient who were able to stay for the night. Like they say, "Better be safe than sorry. Most of all, you're telling me he is in good spirits and it's one of the main thing. I sure would be pleased to go for a coffee and maybe answering some questions Keith might have. As you say, we're not staying far from each other. I'll say it over and over again, I don't regret for a second to say yes for my surgery. For me it's a miracle coming true. Pierrette:)

Hi ifyourstomachoffendsyou, Thank you so much for sharing that video with us. As you know, I'm a ressource teacher in a public school but I do a similar job than you, here in New-Brunswick Canada. Not long ago, I was asking God what was my purpose here on this earth for Him. The answer was "You do what I ask you to do . . . teaching the kids I give you and love them the way they are." I also realized that I was really good at hitting myself on the head which I don't do with my students. I have to take whatever I want to change in my life one at a time. Right now, I'm praying God to help me to eat just what I'm allowed to eat in the evening (because of my diabetes) and stop there. Check if I want to eat because I'm hungry or if I want to eat my emotions and if so what is that emotion. I realized I have a hard time to pin point why I want to eat. Usually, went I know the reason of something I can deal with it otherwise it's hard to change something your not even aware of. I don't want to fail this time but I need God and prayers. If someone has any ideas to help me I would appreciate. Like the ones who lose over 100 pounds, how did you do it? I have no one to talk to around here, I'm the first patient who got the LB in Bathurst. Thank you for any advice you can give me. clempier
  16. Hi Keith, I just got back from our week end trip and I was wondering how you were. I'm glad they could tell you to use something else than Boost. Gongrats for your 20 pounds. You must be really proud of yourself. I'm so glad you're good now. Your surgery is pretty soon, you must be so anxious about it. I'm going for my second fill on the 17th. I don't know how many I'll need but I'll go with whatever my body will stabilize. Keep me posted, please. Pierrette:)
  17. Hi to all, After my first fill, I started to have constipation problem which is normal for some. It's strange for me because in 50 years I never had any problem with that. This morning, I ate cereal (Special K with All Bran), hope it's going to help. Also, I have difficulty to eat bread. I called the Bariatric Clinic and I talk to the nurse because the dietician is on vacation. I know I can eat Whole Wheat Crackers so I'll eat that instead of bread. I had to make sure for the nutrition facts so 6 craquers = 1 piece of bread. I have a bit of difficulty to eat in the morning but as the day go by, I can eat more. I even have to restrict myself during the evening. It always been my down fall. Someone told me to "close the restaurant at 8" meaning you stop eating at 8. Try to not go in the kitchen after 8. I have to go see Dr. Savoie next month (on the 17th) to see if I need another fill. If I'm still hungry between meal he'll probably put more saline. How are you doing Keith? I think of you everyday because I know what you're going through. Keep on the energy and keep your eyes on the goal. You can always call me:) Pierrette

Hi to all, I got my first fill last Monday (July 20th) and I thought that it would solve my problem (eating to much in the evening) but it didn't. That really disturb me and I couldn't understand why. Plus I started to deal with constipation which I never had so one more thing to deal with. The " restaurant closes at 8" was the perfect idea. So, I was preparing myself to close the restaurant at 8, did completly the opposite. I couldn't stop eating even with my band. Last evening, same thing. Couldn't understand why and of course I wasn't proud of myself and I then, negative thoughts about myself started. I realized just this morning that my period is going to start pretty soon so I knew why. On top of that, my emotions are high sky. It doesn't take much for me to cry. On top of that, we're suppose to go camping this week end. It's the only week end my husband is going to have this summer and I'm going to have my period . Yesterday, I went for my 1 hour walk and I had a hard time to do it. I was poop out for the rest of the day. I did a bit but not much. The cleaning I was planning to do did happen. So, this evening I'll try again to close the restaurant at 8. Then, because of constipation, of course when I weight myself the scale goes up, not down. My head knows all the reasons why I gain and not lose but my emotion doesn't want to understand. Since May 20th, I lose 30 pounds and a bit more but it doesn't go down as fast as I would. I had in my mind that I would hit onederland before I go back to school so it means I have to lose 15 pounds before August 31st. I have so many things to change in my life. I even say to God that I don't even know myself which one I want first. I start a lot of things, I'm all pump up like exercising everyday, clean the house so every room stay clean, stop eating before 8, be ready for the school year (all my intervention plans done, my classroom ready, works ready for my students who need specific curriculuums, etc), and more. I then said to God, "You know better than me so please, do what's best for me". Maybe, more wisdom? clempier

Hi Phil, Thanks for breakfast idea. Maybe it will help me with my constipation problem. I'm glad you enjoyed your vacation in Canada. We have beautiful sceneries and people are well known for their hospitalities. If you ever have the chance to come to the Maritimes, it's a must. Thank you again, and God bless you. clempier

Hi bookworm Thank you so much, you answered my prayers. I'll try your "kitchen closes at 8". This morning at church we sang a song about the eagle who flies with his wings wide open and the wind carries him. The eagle is free. Jesus died on the cross so we can be free and I prayed God that He would set me free from food addiction. I also realised that He is always willing to help but we have to do our part, like having a plan like yours. I also realise that I have to continue my exercice every day. Thank you so much for your prayers, I really need them. Bless you dear sister in Christ. clempier

Hi to all, I woke up early this morning because I have to prepare my stuff for Sunday School. While drinking my coffee, I realized that when I have a hard time or whatever, I come to this site and I know someone is going to answer compare to other site. Thank you Lord, we're a big family in Christ and family help each other. I got my band June 3rd and I'm having a hard time in the evening not to overeat. During the day I have no problem. I thought my problem of eating to much during the evening was got but I was wrong. I got my first fill last Monday. He didn't want to put to much saline at a time so he decided to put 1cc and I have to go back August 17th for another fill. Being on vacation doesn't help I guess (I'm a teacher) but it's not a reason. I need your wisdom and your prayers. I was wondering if someone would give me ideas for breakfast and I would like some example of menus and quantity you eat each meal. I really need a boost here:frown: clempier

    Common Problem Foods

Hi, I'm glad to have found someone who's diabetic just like me. I was banded June 3rd and I got my first fill July 20th. I have to go back for another fill August 17th. He didn't want to put to much saline for the first time (he put 1cc on the 3rd and 1cc on the 20th). I thought having the surgery would eliminate my diabetes but it didn't although I take way less insulin that I use to. I'm type 2 and I take 2 Metformin in the morning plus and average of 3 units of Humalog then at noon around 3 units, for supper 2 Metformin and another 3 units of Humalog and finally 20 units of Levemir before going to bed. I read that if your diabetic for more than 10 years and on insulin, your chance of getting off it is not high. I told that to my Dr. and he said that there's still a chance after losing more weight, I just had to be more patient. How about you? Are you on insulin? Do you know someone like me and got off insulin? I really would appreciate a respond from you or from someone who would give me input on that. clempier
  25. Hi Shipp9727, If I can encourage you, before the surgery I was scared of that but it's not the case. I'm not saying I don't sometimes eat a bit much but you can't. Mind you, I was anxious to have my first fill because I was hungry but I tried really hard not to eat between meals and I weight my food (max. 8oz) and it really helped me. I got my first fill today so I'm on liquid for 2 days, soft food for 2 days and back to normal the 5th day. Yours is coming up!!! How's your Boost diabetic and water day going? clempier
