Yep - I will be on clear liquids for one week and then the doc will determine if I can go to "thicker" liquids. I really don't mind because I am having enough trouble getting my water down. I love water and usually drink more than 64 oz a day but this taking tiny sips is tough! I hope you are doing well pain wise. I am still taking the loratab liquid every 6 hours but don't think I need it - I just don't want to start having alot of pain. I figure I will take it until tomorrow and see how it goes spacing it out to 8 hours or so.

lindatatu & dcorna - I also had my surgery on 13 Oct and the pain is pretty bearable but I feel like my stomach keeps filling up with air. Are either of you experiencing that? I have been using the Gas X strips and they are helping but it seems like I am just re-producing gas. I am only allowed clear liquids so all I have had so far is water and broth.

Having surgery tomorrow and was speaking to another person who is also having their surgery tomorrow. She told me that we were not supposed to have any protein until our 1 week post op visit with the doc. I read and re-read my preop instructions and it just says to only have clear liquid until midnight tonight (nothing after that). Well, i had a protein drink that was clear liquid. Is this not okay and will it screw up my surgery tomorrow?????

Thanks for everyone's replies. I just got out of the hospital yesterday and I am doing fine. Naturally a little bloated and sore but nothing I can't handle! Today is better than yesterday and I am hoping it gets better each and every day. YIPEEEE!!!!
-
K - I am off to the hospital. Thanks for replying back! I will try to let you know how things go on Tuesday when i get out of the hospital. Please say a prayer for me!!!
-
Thank you both very much - you answered my plea for help and it is much appreciated! Makes me love this site even more than before!
-
Thank you! Now I think I can get some sleep before my big day! The girl I was referring to has the same doc as me but we were even on different pre-op diets so maybe the night before surgery was different to? At least I know that nothing bad will happen now! Thank you.

HELP!!! i was speaking to a friend who is also having her surgery tomorrow and she said that we were not supposed to be having any protein until our 1 week follow up with the doctor. I read and re-read my pre-op handouts and it just says that I have to be drinking clear liquids all day. I had a protein drink (1/3 of it) that was clear. Is that not okay????? -
Did you do an at-home iodine scrub before surgery ?

I'm with RestlessMonkey...i just washed and will have to do it again in the morning as tomorrow is my surgery day!!!! -
Hi everyone! I have my surgery tomorrow so I have been on clear liquids today - I took 1/2 of the "clean-you-out-liquid" a couple of hours ago and am supposed to the take the rest in a few minutes...nothing has happend so far. I'm kinda scared that it will all start coming out at once and I will not be able to leave the bathroom! Good luck to everyone else getting banded tomorrow - looks like quite a few of us. My doc make us stay the night so I will hopefully be back online sometime tuesday.....

My husband (of course) knows, as do my family. I am not telling any friends or coworkers...yet. If someone asks me point blank if I have had WLS, I will tell them yes.

Tomorrow is the day and i am SCARED. Not of the surgery itself but of being able to change my entire lifestyle FOREVER. I have to drink my "cleaning out" liquid in a couple of hours so I am going to go get some running around done first! Emilie - they changed my "show up" time to 10AM and said that it is going to be a very busy day. Hope to see you. RestlessMonkey - thanks for all your posts.....and I hope you are doing well. -
My pre-op visit was alot like the last post - blood was drawn, EKG accomplished and Chest X-Ray. I also meet with an internal med doc just to make sure there were no concerns with current meds, etc.. Then I had to attend a seminar where the nutritionist talked to all of us (all having surgery on the same day) about what we will need to do the 1-2 days before surgery, the day of surgery and the weeks that will follow. I also was given a urine cup and special soap to use the morning of my surgery. Oh, i also forgot - I was given some kind of syrup that I have to drink 1/2 at noon and then the other 1/2 at 2 the day before my surgery. They said I need to make sure to be by a bathroom because it will be a "quick cleaner!" I also met with my surgeon who checked everything out in my chart, answered any questions that I had and then that was it! Good luck....my surgery is tomorrow. I am excited!!!

Guess we longhorn fans are overwhelming the thread! My son is a junior at UT so I am a fan because ALL our money goes there!!!! No, we lived in Austin when Bergstrom was open and both our boys were born there. We still live close - in San Antonio! I will be banded this coming Monday (13 Oct). Good luck to everyone!!! Sorry - not too good with this forum thing and I can't look back to see who's husband is deployed - he (and all the soliers) are in my prayers. -
Just banded yesterday!

I noticed many people on this forum were on different pre-op diets so I asked my doctor and he told me that it depends on your BMI. Some people have such a low BMI (35-39 or so) that he doesn't require his patients to diet (their liver is already small enough). Hope this helps....as far as the post-op diet, it seems like most people are similar but some people are just adding "mushies" sooner than others because they can't take the liquid only thing. Good luck to you! I have my surgery Monday Oct 13! -
Hi! I could really use guidance from someone who has already walked the path I am heading down. I am a 40 year old married female, and live near San Antonio, Texas. My husband is very supportive but I need someone who has experienced what I will be inevitably going through. I am 5'1" and started my 2 week pre-op diet at 211lbs. I am currently at 204. My goal weight is 132 (my wedding weight!).

Thanks for the tips on the gas-x - I have read that before but i appreciate the reminder! Thanks for replying, too - I will need all the support that I can get. I am sure as my journey progresses, I will have more and more questions. Hopefully someone who has had their band for a lot longer will also reply to this - that way we can both get help! How was your surgery experience? Are you in SA?

Anyone else with high liver funtion #'s (post op)
longhornmom replied to Apples2's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I just went for all of my pre-op test and the internal medicine doc told me that my liver numbers a little high but he said that that is not uncommon - he said that if they did the test again, it would probably be different. I am 202lbs - he said that my liver should be just fine for surgery. Hope it helps..... -
I'm not sure if I posted on here before - there are soooo many threads! I am being banded on 10/13 and I go in for my pre-op blood work and stuff tomorrow. I have only been on the pre-diet for 7 days so I hope my liver shrinks enough for the surgery on Monday! Good luck to everyone else!

Yeah, he sees patients at weightwise, also. I have been drinking three weightwise shakes (approx 100 cal/2 fat/5 carbs/15prot each) a day and a meat and veggie. I have also (on some days) either had a sf jello pudding or one string cheese (2%). I think I should be okay but I am still a little concerned. -

OK - I am starting to freak out. I got a call today from one of the ladies in Dr. C's office making sure I was going to be there for my pre-op testing tomorrow and she asked me how I was doing on the pre-op diet. I told her fine, that I was having three shakes, lots of water and one meat with veggies for dinner. Apparently the Weightwise clinic that I go to has a different diet than Dr. C - his apparently is only 2 shakes and a small amount (palm size) of meat. I am FREAKING out. She asked me how many pounds I have lost and I told her 7 pounds (in 1 week). She said that most patience loose 15-20 in the two weeks. When they called me about my surgery date, it was only 12 days away so I will only have been on the diet for 12 days. She also said that I would probably be okay but that Dr. C wouldn't know for sure until he started the surgery. YIKES. That will be really BAD. i have already taken off work. ANY COMMENTS????? -
Greetings from Texas
longhornmom replied to KarenFY09's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hello from another fellow Texan - San Antonio, to be exact. My surgery is scheduled for 13 Oct and I am nervous and excited. I have been researching the lap band for several months but have only been on the board for a week - its addicative and now I can't seem to get off! I was one of the lucky ones - I was approved through my insurance within a week. God is telling me this is the right step. Good luck to you! Are you a govt worker? I noticed your FY - does it mean Fiscal Year? -
How do you get 60g of protein in a day?
longhornmom replied to cynw's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What brand is the choc whey and where do you get it? You make it sound SOOOOOO good with coffee! I am not scheduled for my surgery until 13 Oct but I want to plan ahead! Thanks for the tips, everyone - they really help. -
No but all my money goes to Austin! I live in San Antonio. Our son is a EE student at UT.

Congratulations!! I will have my surgery on 10/13 and can't wait to see what my results will be in 1 year! Good luck to you.
