Dr Groves

Hello everyone, Sproutwife, I'm from Gadsden also. My surgery was with Dr. Groves on Oct. 7th, 2008. I have had one followup so far and he and the office staff were friendly and helpful. Darlene, insurance, is very kind. I get my first fill on Nov. 24th. Good Luck everyone, !!!!!

Introduction

Good morning, also from Alabama (Gadsden). I was banded last month, Oct. 7th and have done great. As of this morning I have lost 31 lbs, counting 13 pre-op. I won't tell you its been easy every day, hunger still rears its head sometimes, but I look at my band as an assisting tool so my mind will stay on course. Congrats on your band date. Its great to watch the scales go down.
5. Good morning StickySweet, I was going to use Dr. Miles and Schmidt due to the wonderful things I had heard and the fact that my sister-in-law and her daughter used them back in November and loved them. My problem was getting the insurance approval lady to call me back or respond to my emails. I had my appointment and spent the next 7 months trying to get any feed back from them. First they were missing 2 of my 7 month weigh in papers, my family doctor re-submitted them. I waited 2 weeks and started calling. After many failed attemps to get them on the phone or respond to emails, I went to Dr. John Groves in Albertville, AL. He's with Marshall Co Surgical Assoc. and has had the lap band surgery and lost 105 lbs. I had my appointment, they submitted my papers the next morning, insurance approved me within 3 days, and I had my surgery within 2 weeks of my first appointment. My surgery was Oct. 7th and I have done great. Dr. Groves was great and the office staff was wonderful to me. Dr. Miles and Schmidt are great doctors but I paid the consult fee to them and never got any further than stepping on their scales and weighing. Good Luck to you and this journey. I've done great with the lap band.
6. The same thing happened to me about 5 days post-op. I just didn't realize I should have taken SOMETHING before it got that bad! Maybe the ones about to be banded will see these posts and not get in that shape.
7. I just had my surgery this past Tuesday and did well, I'm 50. Other than being very sore and weak for the first three days it went great. I have been blessed not to have suffered any of the "Gas Pains" that I was dreading so bad. This forum is a great place for feedback. I was on here constantly reading and found great advice and comforting words.

?ctober ?dyssey 2008

Hello everyone, just checking in and saying prayers for the ones having surgery this next week. I still can't get the ticker to work so will hopefully work on that later. I had my surgery this past Tuesday, Oct 7th, and the first couple of days wondered why in the world I did it. I had lost 10.2 lbs on the pre-op liquid diet and as of today have lost another 10 lbs. I am gleefully thankful for 20 lbs. Each day the soreness gets better and I've been one of the lucky few that didn't experience ANY of the gas pains. I will admit I do find myself very empty at times but 2-3 teaspoons of chicken broth usually does the trick. I never realized how many wonderful looking food commercials were on TV. All in all I am starting to feel good and can tell in my clothes that 20 lbs are gone. Good Luck to everyone, and hang in there !!!
9. Well my surgery yesterday went well. I got to Guntersville North around 10:40 am and they immediately put me in a out patient room with TV and private restroom. They started my IV and said I should be wheeled back around 12:15. The nurse got me around 12:30 and carried me to the holding room. I remember looking at the clock around 12:50 and don't remember anything else ( not even being rolled to the OR) and my husband said they called him at 2:00 pm and told him I was in recovery. Dr. Groves told him he had found a small mass on my liver that he went ahead and got a biospy on but was almost postive it was scarr tissue from having had gall bladder surgery several years ago. (Keep me in your prayers on that one). I was back in Gadsden around 5:30 and slept in my recliner until around 1:30 am and have been up walking around since then. The more I walk, the less sore I am. I haven't had pain medication all night until 6:30 this morning and didn't really need it then but the doctor told my husband for me to take it for at least a couple of days with fail. I've sipped on crystal light most of the night and have had no trouble with it. Good Luck to the rest of the month banders. On our way to a "New Life". :tt1: P.S. When i figure out how to make the ticker I set up work right I will show my weight loss.
10. I enjoy reading the post from everyone but have really been amazed at the different weight loss amounts for everybody. I just want to lose quickly, although I didn't put it all on overnight. Nervous about surgery on Tuesday but looking forward to a better life.
