Good luck to you, but I am sure you will do great with your sleeve. www.obesityhelp.com/forums/vsg has a great message board with lots of people posting regularly. It is a GREAT support group for us sleevesters...Hope to see you there!

My Dr keeps saying no to the sleeve?! help!!
phillyfawn replied to marlena's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
It may be different over there, but my surgeon told me that the VSG was the safest WLS and had results that surpass the Band- closer the the RNY w/o the malabsorbtion issues...I had my sleeve a month ago and love it...let me know if you have any other questions. I think you could benefit from visitng www.obesityhelp.com/forums/vsg There is a lot of info there, and a lot more people to gather info from. Also, this site has a revision and a complications forum too...knowledge is power...:whatchutalkingabout -
Lap Band vs. Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy?
phillyfawn replied to JustinsMama's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I originally went to my surgeon with thoughts of the band in my head, but after learning about the sleeve I knew it was for me. I am married to a Marine, and we move every three years so I knew that the required permanent aftercare (fills, unfills) would get tiresome. Also, after I learned about the port and the possible problems with the band I became worried about the foreign object I was going to put in my body. Anyway, I had my sleeve done exactly two weeks ago, and I am feeling great! I had absolutely no pre-op diet (my "last meal" was actually KFC) and I have lost 16lbs so far. I do not feel hungry or have an acid problem. The first four days were hard as I had problems with nausea and headaches and dehydration, but after I crossed the week mark I was feeling pretty good. Now I am getting my water and protein in and able to walk a mile a day on the treadmill. Deciding which surgery is best for you is very personal, but I honestly think the sleeve has less problems and complications and better weight loss. -
I Got My Surgery Date...Where Are The November Bandsters?
phillyfawn replied to Cappy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I understand that there are mostly bandsters here. There aren't many good forums for sleeves. I just know that the operations are fairly similar in terms of incisions and things like that. Good luck to everyone! -
I Got My Surgery Date...Where Are The November Bandsters?
phillyfawn replied to Cappy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery is tomorrow morning. I am so excited, but also really scared... I am having the sleeve rather than the band, but I bet the pre-op jitters are the same! Any advice on how long before I can be up and playing with my littles ones (5 & 7) after surgery??? My doctor was vague about how long till I will feel 100% (understandably)... I am also nervous about pain. -
I have Tricare Prime and go to a MTF (West Point), and I recently started the path to surgery. I had no trouble getting the surgical referral (I just asked for it), and the surgeon signed off three days later. Now I am on my way down the checklist and am planning on having surgery at the end of this month. I am only 90 lbs overweight (by their Metlife standards), but because I am short my BMI is 38. I think it needs to be one or the other. Also, I had apnea that wasn't corrected by surgery, so I think that helped. When you go through an MTF there is no seperate Tricare approval needed and it is at the sugeons discretion. Hope this was helpful!
