    Jfdi !!!!!!!!!!

Wow Chris, You really have changed your life! I would be very interested in your charts and anything else you would like to share. I'm struggling a little bit because I feel like I have no help from my band yet. I have no restriction what so ever. However, I have stuck to a 1700 calorie high Protein diet that has worked so far, but it's hard. I remember that quote from President Monson and it is indeed a great one. One last obstacle I am trying to over come is getting off pain pills. I have arthritis and back problems but I know losing the weight will help with this, and I know I can do this with out the pills. So thanks so much for your encouragement, I look forward to your advice and your continued success. My e-mail is mrboswell@msn.com

Thanks Ceredad, The first week went great! I got really sore but I love that. If i remember correctly it doesn't take long before you can't get really sore anymore and you kind of miss it! So I'll enjoy it while I can!!

OK Chris, I'm ready to go for it. I've been banded a month and have lost 25 lbs. I run/walk on the tredmill 30/45 minutes a day as well as lift weights for about 30 minutes. Where do I get info on doing a race and how do I start training? I live in P.G.

    Advice needed from weight lifters

Ya Plain, Your right. I found this article. Body fat scales use a technique called Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis... or BIA for short. Very simply... A small and completely harmless electrical current is passed through your body. The electrical current passes more quickly through fat free tissue like muscle than it does through fat or bone tissue. So... The amount of resistance to the electrical current relates to how much fat-free mass a person has and their body density. Here's the first challenge... Like all body fat tests, body fat scales don't actually measure your body fat percentage. They determine your body density. The examiner (or the scales) then uses a formula to calculate body fat percentage based on body density. Here's the key... These formulas just predict your body fat. Unfortunately there is no one formula that accurately predicts body fat for the whole population. Differences in age, gender, ethnicity, body size, and fitness level all have a significant affect on the results. Most scales can account for some of the basic differences such as age and gender, but take the actual body fat percentage they give you with a pinch of salt. What does this all mean for you? Well, whether body fat scales measure your "true" body fat percentage or not doesn't matter! As long as they can accurately monitor changes in your body composition over time, that's all you need. Your body position, the amount of water in your body, your food intake, skin temperature and recent physical activity can all adversely affect the results of body fat scales. So... To achieve accurate, consistent results, you must standardise the way you perform each test. That simply means making each test with your scales as similar as possible.

    Advice needed from weight lifters

379(34.5% bf)/245(17.5% bf)/240(15% bf) Hey Ceredad, How do you measure your body fat? I bought a body fat scale but it says I'm at 46.2%. I weigh 316 as of this morning. If your percentages are correct (379/34.5%) mine can't be. I tend to think yours might be low just due to some charts I found on line, which put you at almost athlete status at 240, but then again you may have converted all that fat to muscle! I don't know how accurate these body fat scales are, I guess that's what I'm trying to determine. Thanks,

    LDS Bandsters

Hi Klandi, Looks like you got this thread going again. My scale says I've lost 24lbs. to date. I'm like sunnyside, ready and anxious for my first fill. I've got this far on will power and excersise, I'm ready for a little help from my band! :cursing: By the way, where's Nunya? Never heard of it.

How the Lap-Band actually works, fills and refills

I have a 10cc band with no fill in it.....I feel no difference than before the surgery, other than my port site is still a little sore :cursing:. I seem to be able to eat whatever I want in what ever quantities. My fear after reading this post is that it will take 5 or more fills to feel restriction! How do you guys cope with that? I am trying to stay with in 1500 calories, and have started to exercise. My motivation is that I don't want to give back 1 ounce of the 15lbs. I've already lost!

    Advice needed from weight lifters

OK- I'm Ready to GO!! I took the first week off, post opp. Last week I started aerobics, 30-45 minutes on the elliptical. This week I'll hit the weights. I broke out an old weight lifting course I followed 20 years ago that kinda goes something like this: 1st week- Light weights, high reps (12-15) 2nd week- Medium weights- mid reps (10-12) 3rd week- Heavy, 8-10 reps 4th week- POWER, 6-8 Six days on with 1 day off. That's a 3 month cycle and there's 3 or 4 different cycles if I remember right. There is other stuff like specific times on how long you rest between reps and the order you do your body parts and what supplements to take. It worked really good before but I was 20 years younger then, so I guess we'll see how it goes!!:cursing:

I hope it doesn't take 4 fills for me to feel restriction. It costs me $250 a fill and I'm starving all the time!!
  10. WOW!!! :cursing: There were alot of people banded in November!
  11. Congratulations!! Keep up the good work!!

    Last day jitters

Hey Mike, I was a little jittery the day before surgery. I had not had any surgeries before so I wasn't sure what to expect. Everything went perfect and I was up and about in no time. I think the important thing to think about is the commitment you have made to change your life! Think of the opportunity this procedure will afford you and how great it will be to live our lives happy and healthy! I can't hardly imagine what it will be like to not have to carry around an extra 125lbs. Let us know how everything went.

    Help!!!!

Hey bassriley, How much weight have you lost. The tracker says 83lbs. The banding weight and current weight indicate 50lbs. Either way that a hellava lot of weight to drop in 3 months!
  14. I hope you all have a great time with your friends and family during this time of the year when we give thanks to the many blessings we all enjoy! I thought maybe we could all check back in here after the holiday and report how we did with the temptation of great foods this time year. This is one holiday where food is definitely highlight of the event!

    Happy Thanksgiving!!

I got thinking this is kind of a stupid post, most of you are good and restricted and probably don't have to worry about messing up to bad. I'm still coming from a place of no restriction so everyday is still a battle! Anyway, it's good to hear from you, I'm sure even you longtime bandsters have to stay on top of it this time of year........Good luck!
  16. Oh, one more thing I found that I thought was really cool and you guys might be interested in..... I found a scale on e-bay that measures your weight and body fat. It was only $30 and that includes S/H. I haven't received it yet so I can't say if it is as cool as it looks, but if your interested you can go to ebay and search for "396 Pound BATHROOM BODY FAT SCALE" and you'll find it.
  17. Well, I'm just trying to figure things out. I recently switched from liquids to mushie's and have found I can eat about as much as I could before being banded. Then I learned it will take about 3-4 fills before I feel restricted. So until then I have followed the advice of some of the old timers around here and started exercising and try keep my calories at about 1200. I've lost about 20 lbs. and don't want to give 1 ounce of that back, so I'm trying to be real careful. Sounds like things are starting to return normal for you post surgery?
  18. Good Luck X, We'll be here waiting for you when you come out the other side!!
  19. Thanks for the reply! It looks like I missed the most informative info of all in a thread called: "How the Lap-Band actually works, fills and refills" In it it says: "Prior to receiving an EFFECTIVE fill, it is VERY uncommon to have any restriction from a Lap Band. Some patients will NOT lose weight, or may even GAIN weight until they have received an effective fill in their Lap Band." So my new question is what have you done to continue to lose weight during this "search for the sweet spot" period? Thanks again..........

    Restriction??

Thanks Cowboy, That makes sense. It looks like I missed the most informative info of all in a thread called: "How the Lap-Band actually works, fills and refills" In it it says: "Prior to receiving an EFFECTIVE fill, it is VERY uncommon to have any restriction from a Lap Band. 21. Hello All!! This seems to be a very confusing topic. I've read all I could find on the subject here in the forum and 2 theme's seem to be prevalent. 1- Everyone is different. 2- It takes a few fills (2-4 seems to be the average) before you start feeling restriction. That doesn't make much sense to me. Why should it take a couple of fills to feel restriction. Is it so the fill Dr.'s can make more money? I've just started to eat food since my surgery 16 days ago. So I was a bit curious as to what and how much I could eat. I have a 10cc band with nothing added to it so far. As far as I can tell there is absolutely no difference then before I was banded. If it really does take a few more fills before the band starts working how do I continue to lose weight? I do plan on eating sensibly by getting on a calorie reduced diet but that seems to defeat the whole reason for getting the band in the first place! I would very much like to hear your experiences in this matter. Thanks so much!!

    Advice needed from weight lifters

OK- Here's the top 10 reasons why you yawn. (I added 9&10 myself!) 1- The deep inhalation during a yawn is means of preventing alveolar collapse within the lung. 2- The deep inhalation while yawning stretches type II alveolar pneumocytes, which release the surfactant dipalmitoylphosphatidylcholine (DPPC) into the layer of Fluid on the alveolar surface. 3-A means of cooling the brain. 4- An action used as an unconscious communication of psychological decompression after a state of high alert. 5-An excess of carbon dioxide and lack of oxygen in the blood. 6- A way of displaying (or indicative of) apathy or tiredness. 7- A means of equalizing middle ear pressure. 8- Need of food or hunger/ appetite due to reduced level of Glucose supplied to the brain. 9- Because you are bored reading this post! 10- You need work out HARDER!!!

You Rock! How bout a recent picture showing how "big" your getting?
  24. I went with Dr. Aceves. Mostly because others in my family had it done there but also because I couldn't find a bad word about him in all of this website, or any other website for that matter. My experience was the same as those that went before me.....it was great. The whole "Mexico" thing is a little intimidating at first but IMO the proceedure and care is as good as anywhere.
  25. Glad to hear everything went so well. Ease back into your workout. You want to give yourself some time to heal!
