    Surgery

You will be surprised in what happens after surgery. It just melts away sometimes, and other times it takes a lot of work. Sip, sip, sip and walk, walk, walk. Prioritize protein made from lean healthy meats like chicken or turkey. You got this for sure and there is ample support here, so ask away, share your thoughts and feelings, and you'll get a response for sure. Wishing you the best with your surgery. Oh, and yes, I do not regret having the RNY. Keep those clothes you took that picture with....it will help you in the future when taking pictures in the same clothes.

    Wishing you the best!!
  3. You should ask your team what they recommend in terms of protein, but I shoot for 80 grams of protein or more. Protein is the key to "dieting" after surgery. It gives you satisfaction for longer periods of time during the day, and that means protein shakes, lean meats, and after you being to feel the difference, you can then add in about 1-2 ounces of veggies. Carbs are not on you plan if you want to lose weight. I would also recommend getting in more exercise, it it wears you out, it will until you keep pushing yourself and get used to it. The elliptical is a cardio workout, walking is just as good. Not fast, but at a good speed for a half hour every single day, it builds strength and it builds endurance and it is the simplest of exercises you can engage in. Because you get discouraged, I would encourage you to find the time to join in with people that are like you, BariNation has YouTube videos and they have a membership community. For forty dollars a month you have access to licensed social workers, therapists and dieticians, there are member meet ups all of whom have had surgery, revision to another surgery, or they have worked with bariatric patients for 2 decades. If you can afford it on a monthly basis, then I would strongly urge you to get involved. Take a look and see if you are interested. Wishing you the best!!
  4. I was walking just today, and walked right out of my shoes....I bought them just before surgery.....I investigated and found that my feet are actually smaller!! Who knew?

    Anxious about weight cycling

It isn't weight loss surgery, it is metabolic surgery, just a tool to use or abuse. If you use it as it was intended you will be able to maintain your weight. Remember it is about health and wellness and not the number on the scale. I weight myself rarely, every scale is different and the surgeon's office is my go to place for accuracy. Just stay on plan and continue to follow the meal plan laid out for you. By the way, the first article is a scholarly article, the second one is not a scholarly article. I would watch what kind of article you are looking at and take anything that is a .com with a grain of salt, literally. While weight gain is possible, it is not the absolute. One day at a time. You may eat off plan during the holidays, but get right back onto your meal plan and exercising plan to maintain your health. Wishing you the best.

    New and curious

Hello, I had the Gastric bypass and the day of surgery until now, no insulin, no oral meds, no more glucose monitoring, I'm in remission. Asked my surgeon how this happens, and a part of the BariNation community and ask the surgeons that do questions and answers, and even talked to my endocrinologist to find out how. Being a nurse, I'm curious, and really want to know. Nobody knows, there are no articles explaining it, there has been research but there is no one rationale as to why it happens to a large number of us who have had Bariatric Surgery/Metabolic Surgery that helped with weight loss and reversed diabetes after 30 years! I'm still amazed. Good luck finding your answer.
  7. Hello, welcome! I understand your plight. I too had troubles in the procreation department. However, it is going back to the basics. High protein meals! Eat within 1 1/2 hours of waking and stop after eating dinner. Calories is not an issue, the amount of protein is the bigger deal. I'll leave the specifics to SpartanMaker, he writes volumes. No simple sugars and limit your food sizes. 30 minutes of exercise? What kind of exercise? Are you just walking, doing strength training or cardio? Walking is always a good thing. Keep working the basics and the weight will come off, but nothing will happen quickly. Wishing you well.

    Are you documenting your journey?

I am not documenting my journey via any social media. I am documenting it privately and will post to Facebook in my Bariatric site where my like minded friends are located. That's all. When was your VSG?
  9. @Tianabell77, you are very right, it is sometimes the hormones. It is not that we did anything wrong, we ate as we were taught by our parents and society as well. It is not always a mindset of willpower or having an addiction of food. I just wanted to let you know that you are correct. Thanks, now we can get back to our health and wellness.

Wishing you the best with this, hopeful, last complication! One thing to remember is that your health and wellness is of most importance. You do look great in your 50 year body! Congratulations!
  11. Why would someone go through all that, that the surgery requires just to gain it back? I guess I just can't see how you would not be more comfortable being on the floor playing with your child, Running and playing with your child. Being there for your child. Why are you more comfortable at a higher weight? What makes you think you can't be happy with the weight you are at now, or less? What makes you want to be large again?

    HELLO…

@summerseeker I do not think it is a dollar a day wasted, you can find information and people there too who have all had the surgery and live with it every day, including those that have had it and they are the professionals that hold groups in the BariNation. Take a look at some of the YouTube videos. Maybe you will see that there are bariatric surgeons, licensed social workers, licensed counselors and others, including nurses in the BariNation group and they have four pillars, it is community, and you can ask questions and get answers and everyone is experienced working with Bariatric patients/clients. There is talk about all kinds of things. Until you give it a go, you wouldn't understand it but it is not like this forum that gives non-professional experience. For those that need to work with therapists, it is a lot cheaper to have 5 sessions of group therapy than 1 session in a one-on-one meeting with a private therapist. It is cost effective and you get so much more than you can imagine. I'm not saying anyone should join, just some that I feel would benefit. I might be "advertising" BariNation, but it is no difference than promoting Bariatric Pal vitamins. If I feel someone would benefit I would make mention of it and a little bit of information, but never do I try to persuade anyone to join, it is entirely up to the individual. Check out some of the YouTube videos. The latest drop was of our Leaders attending ASMBS and speaking about the need for patient support. If ASMBS invited them to talk, than that is something. When doctors/surgeons are asking to do pod casts and question and answer sessions, you can't say that they know nothing about bariatric patients. If you don't like it, I'm sorry but there is more than just writing, sometimes having a video meeting with people like me is important for my mental health and my journey. I have made friends and enjoy hearing about other people's lives and I have tried to learn from those that have had surgery well before me, even revisions for things that they had no control over. Before you criticize BariNation, you have to experience it. You are saving money on food, you can afford a few bucks a day to try it for a month and join in on anything on the calendar to check it out before making your opinion about BariNation. Thanks.
  13. Yes non-scale victories (NSVs) are sometimes just as important than being a healthier you. The scale is not what you should be on every day. Choose one day a week and just keep track. It is about health and wellness, not just loss of weight.
  14. Obesity is a disease. As that being your mindset, it is a chronic long lasting disease and despite the loss of weight and a healthier you, obesity is still in the background. You need to treat the disease like any other chronic disease. Exercise even just walking is movement. You also need to focus on protein as your primary source of intake as it gives you a full feeling for longer than any other macronutrient. You may be eating carbohydrates, I eat none and am losing at a steady rate, and I just had the surgery after years of dieting. I am no longer in the diet mentality but rather focused on an overall healthier me. By following the dieticians and surgeons steps in the diet pre and post op I have been able to lose quite a bit in a short amount of time. Surgery is NOT the solution, but it is another tool for those with the chronic disease of obesity. The decision is yours and yours alone, but I wish I could have had this surgery earlier in my life. I would already be where I want to be. If you are seeking more information, there are Youtube videos out by BariNation that you can view to get a different perspective. This years push is being an advocate about stopping shame and stigma, but earlier videos focus on mindset, so you don't have the emotional eating, the eating while being bored, and how to get over the holidays and eating the right foods. Take a look and I wish you the best on your journey.
