  1. Wow! you folks are amazing! What wonderful, insightful responses. I like the hernia idea, especially because I did have to have an umbilical hernia repaired a few years ago, and you are more likely to get hernias once you've had them before. I can relate to the teacher--I am a vice principal. My principal is a big blabber mouth--she will even gossip about her own family. Something juicy like this would fuel her fire. there have been things I have told her in confidence that have come back to me! My HR deptartment is not as confidential as it should be either. Some parts of my day are doing paperwork, reading and writing emails related to the job. :thumbup:Other parts of my day may include lunch duty-on my feet for two hours supervising and breaking up fights until 900 + kids are fed, or I might be chasing down a runaway kindergartner and carrying him, as he struggles, back to the office. :thumbdown:I have a 145 lb 6th grader with epilepsy who has grand mal seizures quite frequently and I have had to catch him when he's fallen. So you see, I can do the "brain" part of my job within 2 weeks post op, but not the "brawn" work. I don't like to lie, but if put in a position where I am being asked personal questions about my healh and/or weight, I will protect my privacy with the hernia story. Thanks for all the great ideas, insights and suggestions.:tongue2:
  2. Thanks Amy, you have a good point, but how do I make sure that I'm not made to stand for extended periods of time or lift heavy items if I don't say I've had some kind of surgery? If I say I had surgery over the break, but it's personal and don't want to talk about it, people will start all sorts of rumors, that's what my work place is like. I would love to say nothing, but I don't want to over exert myself just two weeks post op and cause a problem either.:crying:
  3. I am with Hills Physicians group, Healthnet iunsurance--Sacramento area. Anyone had any experiences they can share? Thanks. Also, ayone had any experienes with Dr. Koura with methodist Hospital?

    Tell us about yourself

Hi Kim, I am just beginning the journey. I am doing as much research as I can. Tomorrow, I'm checking out an informational session, but I think I will be going with a different surgeon. DOesn't hurt to shop around. After all, this is a pretty bug decision!

    Hello From Israel!

Shalom! Wow, maybe I should immigrate to Israel?? Keep us posted; it's interesting to hear how other countries go about this. I know you must be scared--I am too, but not nearly as close to surgery as you are! Just think: it's a new year and a new you! WHat a way to launch into 5769!

    Denied :-(

  7. Hey everyone! i am in the decision-making proces of getting banded. I think I know which surgeon I want--already contacted the office and they are sending me the paperwork. I will have to change my PCP because my medical group doesn't cover the surgeon I want, and I have to decide WHEN to do this. I am an elementary school vice principal with only school-related vacation times. Taking sick leave is a no no in this business. My principal would have a cow if I up and left for a couple of weeks to recover from much needed surgery. I am 5'4'' 290 lbs, mother of 2 boys 13 & 8. Oldest child is on the autistic spectrum; married to a wonderful, supportive man, who would love me if I was 150--like when he met me, or 550. However, he supports my decision, but is concerned about the risks of surgery. I suffer from arthritic knees, asthma, sleep apnea, and hypertension. Ineed to have this weight gone and for good, and SOON. I was thinking about winter break (2 weeks off) but I don't know if that would be enough recoup time. My job is extremely stressful and requires physical exertion, such as chasing down and carrying reluctant kindergartners back to class, breaking up fights, calling parents to tell them their child is suspended, or discovering child abuse cases and reporting to CPS. I also get 2 weeks fro SPring break in March and 8 weeks in the summer beginning early June--June's a long way off, but I may need to wait until then. Tell me what you think?
  8. Sorry you're experiencing this. Mostlikely, she's afraid for you. There was a trime that the only people few people I knew who had bariatric surgery were dead. :scared2:This was not appealing to me, but this is the image that WLS has. Then lap banding came out and I gave it a new look. :thumbup:I'm still afraid, but I have been reading a lot online and I'm doing my homwework. I will knoweverything there is to know before I submit to surgery, although I am pretty sure I'll go through with it. Manwhile, oly my husband and best friend knw. My husband is supportive; my friend is coming around--she know's a lot of bypass patients that have had bad side effects. I will not tell coworkers, my parents, friends, family-some not ever, others, oly if they ask me how I got to be so skinny and beautiful!

    Newbie from California

Intersting how others replied for me--I am not from Stckton, not going to Oakland for surgery. I am from the Sacramento area. Thanks for the advice checking with insurance. I did and they do!
  11. so like when are getting a new PCP? yesterday, I hope! i will be changing my PCP too, not because I want to but because I ned a surgeon out of his group. You are in charge of your body, not your doctor. When you choose a new PCP by all means interview her/him and see what her/his views are ont his kind of surgery. You have the right to shop around. Good Luck!
