Maybell, first off-Congrats on the weight loss! I wish my program had a mandatory exercise component. I would be much better off. Secondly, I think I am just about rigfht there with you--about 14 pounds down since surgery, depending on the time of day, which scale, if I went to the bathroom, and how much clothing I'm wearing . I know what you mean about food not being all that fabulous anymore. SOmetimes I go hungry just trying to decide what I want to eat, and not being able to make up my mind because nothing sounds appetizing. On another note: I just got subpeanored (sp) to testify in court next week. I am a vice principal and last year I reported a parent for beating his 7 year old with the buckle end of a belt. the little boy was covered in welts, cuts, bruises, and blisters from the middle of his back to behind his knees. He was purple and black all over! He was taken into protective custody from my school and never went back home. His parents were arrested and the case is finally going to trial. The DA called me his morning and told me I have to testify against the father. I am so nervous. That guy is a monster! On the one hand, I'm glad there will be justice because I never found out what happened to the little boy after he was taken away from my school, but I'm also scared of retribution from a very dangerous man. This could drive me to eat! -
If you can get a full month off--go for it! I wish I'd had that long--you do need time to adjust. No one at my job knows I had lap band surgery--they all think I had a hernia repair. My doctor's note said I had abdominal surgery, which leaves it wide open--no one is told for sure what it is, and the doctor doesn't have to lie about what you had done.

Amymoe--good for you hanging in there at the party, with all the food and drink. Shame on the 23 year-old to make comments--obviously, she has self esteem issues that;'s trying to project on you. -

Hey ladies. I think my kids and I are now pretty much well. I could really use a fill, though, but I'm being good. I am down another pound this week. SOmehow I thought the weight loss would be a little quicker, but it's going in the right direction, so I should be glad about that, I suppose. I hope eberyone gets well--and congrats on the new puppies--post picures! -

Hi Ladies, Haven't heard from some of you in a few days. My weight keeps going back and forth with the same 2 pounds, which is very discouraging. I have not been exercising since I've been ill because my energy is so low and all I want to do after an 11 hour work day is go to bed. How is everyone else doing? -

Good morning, ladies. Yikes, we dropped back to the 2nd page. We better get posting! I've been busy and my kids are still not completely well. Somehow I gained back the 2 pounds I lost, so I'm pretty annoyed about that. I know I'm not supposed to worry about weight loss until after my 1st fill, but that's not until March 6th for crying out loud!:cursing: I hope I don't start slowly gaining! -

Amy--hope your baby feels better soon. Keep him hydrated! My 2 boys will go back to school tomorrow, and hopefully their schools won't call me in the middle of the day to pick them up! My 3rd grader was sent home on Monday at noon with a fever and never made it back all week. He had a fever as recently as last night, but seems better today. My 14 year old missed Thursday and Friday and he's still not 100% either, but because of 2 days absence, his English grade went from an A to an F. WTF? I taught middle school English for years and would never have done that to a kid!:tongue2: I am feeling better too--still coughing and a little weak, but I'll soldier on! The weather continues to be beautiful in California, so I was able to get out and prune more rose bushes this afternoon--I think I did about 12 of them. It should take me one more sunny weekend to get all of my roses pruned. My husband ordered a pizza. He had a craving. My oldest kid won't tough pizza. My youngest is allergic to dairy. I ate the cheese off the top of one slice. HEAVEN! And Bill ate 2 slices. Now there's a huge pizza in the fridge! -

Well ladies, I gotta brag! I went to the post office this morning and ran into a good friend. The last time I saw her was at her party on Christmas Eve. I am down 18 pounds since then. Like I have said before, there are only about 4 people in the world who know I had WLS. This friend was not among those 4. The first thing she said when she saw me was, "Girl, you've lost weight!" I told her my secret and now she wants my information so she can do the same. -

Balylee, hang in there--I'm sure the weight gain is temporary. I am eating normal foods in tiny amounts. I think I get in around 800 calories a day, and I am doing the stationary bike for 30 minutes/4-6 times per week. After having the scale pretty much stand still for a week, I finally saw a 2 pound loss today. It's frustrating because I am eating less than my 8 year old and only losing 2 pounds in a week. But I am happy for the loss. I think our bodies have been through a lot of upheaval, what with surgery and the drastic change to our diet. We're probably just adjusting to the new lifestyle. Hang in there! -

Finally! A 2lb loss for the week! With as little as I'm eating, I would have hoped for a bit more, but I'll take it. Cherbear--you're right about the inches lost, I am feeling it in my clothes and have even worn an outfit this week that I couldn't wear at my heaviest because the tops of my arms were too wide to fit into the jacket properly. Now it fits just right, so that's a plus! -

Lively, sorry about your soda experience. Thankfully, I am not a soda drinker. If I drink 3 sodas in a year, that's a lot. SO, I won't be missing it. My kids and I have all been sick with fevers and bronchitis. We're all on antibiotics, nebulizer treatments, and cough medication. The weigtht still hasn't budged, but it can't be from too many calories. I'm barely getting in 800 calories a day. -
Anyone out there with Sutter Medical group i Sacramento Area?

I had my lapband done by Dr. Waldrep in Roseville. He also has a lot of hoops to jump through and there is a strong commitment to aftercare. Patients have to sign a pledge to commit to life-long aftercare and for doing their part. I cose not to go with Dr. Patching because I felt his approach is a bit patronizing and authortarian. I am not a child and don't need to be told to lose X amount of pounds before surgery. If I could have done that, I wouldn't be needing the surgery. However, if you feel comfortable with someone doing that to you, I respect your choice and wish you the best. Along with thousands of other patients, I came through my procedure with Dr. Waldrep with flying colors and I am very glad of the choice I made. I wouldn't have had it any other way. Before you knock another surgeon, you may want to ask his patients what their experience was like. I have spoken to some of Patching's patients and they have very mixed reviews. I have not heard one negative comment about Dr. Waldrep. -
Weight loss stalled... is this normal?

I am having the same frustration. I was banded on the 13th. First 8 days, a pound, or so each day, then BAM! the weight loss came to abrupt stop! I am doing everything I am told to do--even exercising. I wonder if I'm getting too few calories (I'm managing about 800 a day) or not enough water? As good as I have been with getting in lots of protein and not over eating, I would have expected something! -

Glad everyone's doing well. My 8 year old has been sick with a fever for 3 days. I caught what he has and developed bronchitis. Well, let me tell you: when you cough hard it hurts the band area like #@~!!!* I am aching again similar to right after the surgery. I feel like I ripped something in there!:scared2:I will need to get into my PCP tomorrow to get some antibiotics and cough med w/ codeine--only thing to stop my cough -

join the club! Sushi is also my favorite food and I asked my nutritionist this same question at my consult. She said that bandsters can eat sushi post-op, but she recommends that we ask for 1/2 the amount of rice on the rolls to conserve calories and carbs.

I had surgery at 1:30 p.m.; left hospital at 5:45 p.m. Took Loratab twice that night; liquid tylenol the next day, no pain meds since. I was driving on the 2nd day; went to group support meeting across the county by myself on day 4 post op. Was able to eat real food 11 days out. No pain, except a little where the port incision is. No restrictions on the part of my doctor.

Good morning, ladies. Today is our 2-week bandaversary! This morning the scales moved again! I am down 2 pounds from yesterday morning. Go figure? Baylee, I get hungry at night, wake up hungry in the middle of the night. It's awful! I would like a fill, too, but I don't get one until March 6! -

Ok, too eerie! We all had our surgeries at the same time and we're all getting our periods at the same time!! I too am premenstral and believe that is part of the reason why I'm plateauing--because I'm totally following all the rules and the scale didn't budge again today! When it (The Big P)finally gets here, I'm expecting amazing numbers on the scales! I too am experiencing the tugging, slightly painful feeling at the port site; it's especially worse first thing in the morning. I have found sleeping propped up on pillows helps, but I am a side sleeper and when I do that, the pain gets worse. I tried wedging a pillow on my left side so that I wouldn't roll completely to my side and that helped a litle, too. The itching is bad though! Thanks for the vitamin E oil tip--I should have remembered that from previous surgeries; it really helps reduce scarring, too. At work, people keep offering me sweets because it's Chinese New Year and our school has a high number of Chinese, Hmong and Vietnamese students, (who also celebrate the holiday). I told them this is MY new year and I can't eat the candy and cakes because MY NEW YEAR'S RESOLUTION is to lose weight. -
Who's getting banded on January 13th?
adamsmom replied to adamsmom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good Evening, Ladies, I just can't tell you how wonderful it is that I have all you for support! The fact that we all had our surgeries on exactly the same day helps us really gauge our progress with each other and know if things are normal or not because we're all at the same place. Amy--I am also glad about the Unjury; however, I am finding that now I'm on regular food, I am having an easier time of getting my protein in without needing as many shakes. But the Unjury is yummy and really helps. All of you who have had a slow down in weight loss--I have too and I was getting really pissed off. I started to panic, like what if the band doesn't work for me?Then I realized I need to knock it off and remember that I'm still healing. In one of my books, it says that you shouldn't even expect any weight loss until after the first fill because there probably isn't any restriction--or not enough. Also, what Baylee said about not enough calories is also true. I also thought that perhaps I need to now kickstart my metabolism and do some proper exercise, so I've been getting on the stationary bike for 30 minutes and doing dumbell weights since yesterday. The good news is that I'm not gaining, but I want to see the weight loss speed up! Also, my doctor told me I shouldn't expect more than 1-2 pounds of weight loss a week, and I am about at that rate so far, so I guess I should quit being so impatient. It was my son's 14th birthday yesterday and he asked to go out for Chinese food for dinner. I ate everything except the rice and one teeny taste of chow mein noodles. I mostly ate chicken, fish, and brocolli and everything went down fine. I made the birthday cake and even had a slither of that. This is what the band is about: being able to eat normal food, but in much smaller portions. I was down 6/10 of a pound this morning, so no harm done. Andy--was it you who has the side pain? Me too. I noticed it a little yesterday and a lot more this morning. In fact, my stomach and the incision sites all ache quite a bit first thing in the morning. I think it's all part of the healing process. I cannot relate to the glue sutures rubbing because I had internal sutures and the external skin was held together with steri-strips that were all removed at my post-op on Friday. However, all but one of my incisions are right along my waistlne where my pants are and the waistband of my pants rub on the incisions and hurt them a little. I'm hoping that when I'm fully healed I won't feel that anymore. Hope you all had a great weekend! -

Hey Andylou, sorry you're having gas pain again. I am so glad I'm not experienceing that anymore. At my support group some of the people there did say that gas and other lapband types discomforts do get worse when they're away from home in a less comfortable envionment. I am down a total of 9 pounds since surgery, and yes, my weight loss has also slowed down a lot in the past 2 days.
