    How did you decide?

Good luck, I think most of the surgeons try and push gastric bypass, I believe it has to do with how much commitement you are willing to put it in. If you are ready to change your lifestyle for a healthier you then you have made the right decision with the band! What surgeon are you using? I live about 20 miles from your city. January 23 will be the beginning of the better you!
  3. Hi,I was just banded recently, I work at that facility and have a few coworkers who are going through the class, they tell me that kaiser is no longer going to cover the lap band and only goind to do gastric bypass or stapling. Is that true, I've never heard such a thing. I also have heard rumors that kaiser wouldn't cover weight loss surgery unless your bmi is 50,so I know there's a lot of misinformation in it. Did you already start the classes? Here if you need support.
  4. I am scheduled for surgery next thursday, I have my preop tomorrow, very excited. Anybody else being banded around this time? This is my support group, have not found one in my area. I find this site so informative and people seem to be so supportive. Good luck november bandsters.

    still dealing with

I was banded 11/13 and had constipation and bloating that was killing me. I took MOM in large doses, after finally eating mushies I was able to go. Try some good old fashioned prunes and flaxseed oil.
  6. My program states no bread, tortillas, pasta or rice for 6 months. Also eat your protein first then your veggies then your complex carbs. You should be eating no more than 2/3 cup at one time. You have no restriction as you have no fill, but start training your brain.Good luck!

    5 days post op

Hello everyone! I had my surgery on 11/13/08 at Cedars Sinai. Everything went fine, I was never anxious going into surgery but right after wondered if I had done the right thing? Sunday was my hardest day, there were fires in my city and got little sleep. It was also very difficult to see my family eat. I am on clear liquids for 3 weeks with the exception of milk for my protein drinks. I must take in 75 grams of protein a day and 8 glasses of water. The social worker said it takes 21 days to break an old habit and be retrained, I wonder if that's why cedars uses a 3 week clear. Your brain is funny, I can't even say I'm hungry, but I think I miss the fact of chewing food. I'm not even craving anything bad, I do want salmon or split pea soup. For me,the epiphany came when I realized everything you put into your mouth counts. How many thin people do we know that diet? They are thin because they work at it. I plan to succeed, I plan to loose weight and live a healthier lifestyle. So on my depressing Sunday, they happen to show the 890lb 29 year old women who had gastric bypass and died 3 days later due to a heart attack. That show was a reminder of why I had surgery and why I must make healthier choices. I was 216 preop, not sure how much I currently weigh. But I feel almost all of us who are overweight got here by our choices and now the ball is back in our court. Good luck to all you november bandsters! Thanks for listening to my babbling.:rolleyes2:

    need a surgeon in CA

HI,I have seen dr. nishi and was wondering how your surgery went? Life after the lap band? Any regrets/anything you would change?
  13. I just recently decided to go in for a consult for the lap band after my child made an innocent remark about my weight. I have had my upper GI and abdominal ultrasound, nutritional and social worker assessment. Is there anybody who is familiar with this location and there process? I was also wondering how life after the band is?
