    Vocabulary?

    Thanks a lot!
  5. I was banded 9/22, and I've been reading these forums since. Lots of great information available here. But I need a bit of a vocabulary review for newbies: PBing? Sliming? which sounds really gross

Lap band - don't do it!! Scarred for life

I'll openly admit that i only read the first page of this thread, but it really scared me. I was just banded 9/22. I thought it was uncommon to need to remove the band. I've been really excited. So thanks for giving me something to worry about. This is not a decision I made without a lot of research, planning, and sacrifice. I saw a special on pbs in 2001, and I've wanted it since then. So I'm sorry you've had a bad time, really. But you're replacing hope and dreams with fear and hate. Killing dreams is unforgivable. You should be sorry.

    Shoulder pain...

I had my surgery 9/22. The gas pain just eased up today. It felt like someone was crushing my left shoulder. Far worse than the belly pain, and lasted longer. I took gas-x. didn't help much. but yesterday i spent $10 on gas-x ultra strength liquid gels. Took one. Today, I'm better. I think it's just my luck- I get better right after spending $10. what really seemed to help was resting on my side. I walked, drank Hot drinks, but just lying on either side helped the most.

    Eating after Surgery Question

My doc put me on full liquids until my follow-up on Friday, which i'm very thankful for. I can barely stand this, so i'm sure a week of crystal light would have really pushed me over the edge. I've been on the Protein drinks too though, myoplex in my case. it's really terrible, but powdered myoplex was cheaper, so i bought it. i found that throwing it in the blender with ice was nice for variety. i miss texture. it's also more volume, so it's more filling. i want coffee and something green. broccoli, salad, anything green and i identify with the guilt: i've been beating myself up over fat free push ups, because they aren't sugar free. 70 calories. i love them. i'm just trying to keep it in perspective: a month ago, i would have had ben and jerry's, with hot fudge. baby steps.
  9. My surgery was 9/22, and I know what you're talking about. Basically all i'm eating is very thin mashed potatoes (all different kinds. the sweet potatoes were a nice change), yogurt, cream of wheat, and occasionally Soup. i've also been making "milk shakes" out of my Protein drinks. Also a lot of different sf drinks. i cannot tell you how badly i want a cup of coffee. and after reading this thread, egg salad and saltines!
  10. How long do i have to wait until i can use my hot tub? My surgery (lap band) was 9/22. My steri strips are still on (i swear, they used super glue), and everything looks to be healing well. I just got the hot tub, and only was able to use it about a week before my surgery. I have arthritis, and I'm dying to get in there! Any thoughts?
  11. Sam's club has a giant bag (76 scoops) of myoplex powder for $30. 42g protein in 2 scoops. It's not great, but it's the most affordable i've found. Better blended with ice.

    Hello, and questions...

mom-mom- sounds like we're having the same experience! I was not prepared for sudden diarrhea at all. There's quite a bit i wasn't prepared for! I wish I'd found this site before my surgery. The gas-x isn't helping me either.

    Hello, and questions...

I wish i'd known just gas could hurt so bad! i was worried that i'd been eating too fast or eating the wrong foods. i've followed the full liquid diet exactly, and have been drinking horrible Protein drinks. i'm trying to eat slowly, but that's tough on a liquid diet. i'll be getting some gas-x.
  15. Hello. I just had my surgery one week ago, on 9/22. Everything has gone very well so far! I'm very excited, and very scared too. I'm having horrible pain in my left shoulder. It comes and goes now, but it was constant the first few days. I'm assuming this is gas pain, but please tell me it isn't going to last forever! Am I doing something wrong? It hurts a lot more than my belly ever did! Please share your wisdom!
