What was your experience?
BethFromVA replied to BethFromVA's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh wow, that's WONDERFUL!!! Congratulations!! I have lost a lot of weight before, but never enough to not be heavy. Once I lost 50 pounds, from 230 to 180, and I felt pretty good then. Another time a couple years ago I lost 70 pounds, from 289 to 220; and though I felt good, I wasn't what you would call thin-ish. I am trying to imagine being in the mid 100's, which I haven't been for nearly 20 years. I know some people can't "see" with their eyes what they really look like because the mind can't let go of the weight. That is -- not worrisome to me, per se, but... I don't know what to call it. -
Look, this isn't my bag of tea either (something I want to do), but it IS an off-topic board that you chose to come onto. If you don't like the non-lap band topic, move elsewhere.

I guess my doctor's office is pretty good about the pay up front. At my initial visit they said the non-covered expenses were about $2500 and all they ask for is $1000 up front and I can pay the balance interest free. But then again, my doc's office sounds much nicer all the way around than yours. :Dancing_biggrin:

My then-boyfriend's rule was I couldn't kiss the other guy. Go figger. LOL

Was in Hawaii this past week and my doctor's office called me (approximately 1 week post initial visit). Seems I am one of the fortunate ones with insurance that only requires a psych eval before approving the procedure! Granted, I will have the other poking and prodding tests, but I don't have to do a dog and pony show to get this thing rolling! I could potentially be a November bandster! At the worst, it should be December. Omg!!!

Hello from Spring Tx
BethFromVA replied to flagirlintx's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Oh wow, I used to live on the Houston/Spring border (I-45 and 1960)!! Welcome. I am new too. I will have my psych eval on Thursday which, thankfully, is the ONLY thing my insurance company requires of me to get this thing started! -
Sounds like many of these experiences are one guy with two girls. I don't mean this to sound as snide as I know it will in print, but how many of these "giving" men are willing to have a second man in the bed rather than a second woman? I've tried it twice with the same partners -- my then long-time boyfriend, and my best male friend. I was fortunate that the issue wasn't ONLY a two-woman-one-man recommendation. And for the record, for me it was much better as a fantasy than the real thing.

Hello, all, I have bookmarked this site to peruse soon when I get more time. I have finally given up with dieting and wishing. Maybe it is time for me to consider help. I never wanted surgery before because all I really knew about was stomach stapling, and that was just too permanent and excessive for me to think about. I have been reading about the lap band surgery instead -- less invasive, reversible (if necessary), and slower, which I personally think is better than the drastic measure that stapling is about. I noticed that a doctor who caught my eye is doing a free information seminar on Wednesday, and I want to go hear more. He is actually a doctor who teaches the surgery, so even though he is farther away than some other doctors who do the surgery, I would probably prefer somebody who teaches over somebody who is simply close. I don't even know what to ask yet... I guess this is more of a hello, and those of you who are better informed about this, if there is any info you can offer up, I humbly ask for your advice. In the meantime, I will read when I can and learn more. For the record, I am 43, been overweight since my mid-20's, and my BMI is 43.5. I am 290 pounds at 5'7". I have asthma which I believe is weight induced, am pre-diabetic, and I have a history of cancer in my family which has me concerned beyond the other obvious ailments that go along with being this weight. Nice to meet everybody ahead of time. Beth

anyone's husband gain what you lost?
BethFromVA replied to aubrie's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Wow, that totally sucks. I guess it makes sense, but still... wow. What about a cooler left in the car with his lunch? I know, I'm grasping here. -
Twenty-one pounds in a month!? Wow, you're doing fantastic!! Your body's just catching up. Weightloss can be like walking down stairs. Some weeks it's just a slightly wider step.

Omg, the office was SO GREAT!! The staff already feel like family, they are so warm and friendly and want to be sure I understand everything that's going to happen. The nurse I spent the most time talking to will get right on my insurance, but she says they don't require any strange pre-op hoop jumping. Once she gets the okay, everything will start rolling along. She says the biggest delay will be insurance, but that I could feasibly be looking at getting in within 4-6 weeks! Once I get the okay I will do the sleep test, blood work, etc. But OMG, I was reading all these stories and thought it may not be until after the first of the year! Cross fingers for me that it rolls on through! :tt1:

Lap band - don't do it!! Scarred for life
BethFromVA replied to LAPBANDFREE's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Well, apparently I'm being called out along with Melolo in PM as being arugmentative on this topic. I felt I had been as diplomatic as I could be considering the ugliness of some of the posts, but somehow I'm being lumped in as being the same as Melolo so I guess my time on this thread is done. :tt1: -
 I just figured if he's willing to share, then I'm guessing he's working really hard to find just the right guy for his lady.

So do you have a list of guys you're considering yet?

But you still sound as if you're assuming they did not do all the things you say they should have. I would bet they did. Even with all the information in the world, it does NOT guarantee that somebody somewhere will not experience something bad. You seem to continue to place the blame on the patient for not doing all their homework than the fact that they may be a small percentile who had things go wrong through problems not of their own making. -
I am new to this forum and am seriously considering LBS. I will go to a seminar on Wednesday. Anyway, I have one HUGE desire once I become healthier. I WANT TO DANCE!! I watch all the dancing shows on TV andcatchballroom when I can (hubby watches with me), and I think this is something we would love to learn together. I WANT TO DANCE!!

anyone's husband gain what you lost?
BethFromVA replied to aubrie's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Aubrie: Wow, that is interesting! Sad, but interesting. Could it be that he is threatened by your weight loss and trying to adjust to you being a different person? She: Just curious... why can your husband not take brought lunches to work? If it's the lack of a fridge, he could take a cooler. It would be way better for him than fried chicken! :crying: -

Good. I'm glad to know you'll stop the attacks. -

It appears you don't know how to have a discussion and were, in fact, raised with no manners. PEACE. -

So apparently only you can post opinions? My opinion is you come off as very disrespectful. -
Lap band - don't do it!! Scarred for life
BethFromVA replied to LAPBANDFREE's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Melolo, you are sounding a bit condescending. What is being explained here are these people's experiences. Not all things work for all people. Please don't disrespect them because their experiences were not completely favorable. I respect them for sharing their experiences as much as I respect the ones who sing LapBand's praises. -
Good thing for me I HATE Taco Bell! lol

Ruh-roh, sorry! Trust me, under some of my gender-neutral nics, I get the same thing. -
Okay, I don't believe in karma (necessarily) or luck, but I do believe in God and that we can be guided by Him to do the right things. That's all I'm gonna say because I don't want this to turn into a religious thread. However, has anybody else besides me feel like they were led to this somehow? I had never even heard of Lap Band or that type of weight loss system before about five days ago. I saw an ad in a magazine at the very end and went, HMMM, wow, I want to find out more about this! All I ever really knew about was bypass and other severe surgeries, and that was a HUGE no way for me. Okay, so I see this ad. I want to find out if my insurance covers such a process, and I go rooting through a box I have some of my papers in and find it. There was a supplemental sheet tucked into the book with contact numbers for different departments at my insurance company, and it was tucked in THE very page that discussed this operation. Within two days I was at a seminar; and though I liked what I heard (and I had also joined here and read a lot), I didn't like the doc. Besides not liking him, he's not in my plan. BUT, his father IS. And I've heard some great stuff about him. I have my initial consult with him on Tuesday! Besides that, get this: Has anybody, once they decided this is what they want (or think they want) to do gone through this? I have noticed that in less than a week, my stomach gets full quicker automatically! I'm not eating NEAR as much as usual, and in that week I've lost 6 pounds without doing anything else. Does this sound weird?

You know what's so sad? Never ONCE have I had a doctor tell me, "If you don't get this under control..." Not that I should need to be told, but I've just been surprised that in nearly 20 years, not ONE has.
