  1. I have the same situation. My procedure is Friday at 2:30pm. No food or drinks after midnight. However, the nurse said if I wanted a small drink of water say around 6am, it should be fine. However, I don't plan on being UP that early.

Omg, I'm DYIN' here! And the good news is I had enough time to take off next week before Thanksgiving too. That'll be nice.

    Why don't y'all see?

Oh, wow, I'm sorry to hear that. I appreciate the luck wishes and will take all I can get.

    Comments people make

I would just be honest. The next time somebody says that, just stop them and say, "I'm sorry, but when you say that, it sounds as if you are discounting the hard work I am doing and the progress I am making due to my hard work and following the band rules. I kindly ask that you stop attributing my weight loss to my age." I mean, cripes, if it was just about your age, then you would never have needed the band, right? You should have just lost it regardless.
  8. Gently, I'll be there with you in spirit. I don't know what time your surgery is, but mine is 2:30pm. :rolleyes2:

    Very Disappointed

I'm onboard with everybody else here. I have to wonder if bypass is more expensive (I bet it is) and that is why doctors who push it do so. That is NOT proper doctoring, imo, to push something they want over what the patient is looking into. Now if you were looking for a tonsillectomy and they said it's not your tonsils, it's your heart that is the problem, that's one thing. But this form of surgery is elective in the sense that we have choices. For any doctor to steer us is improper. Also, I too have GERD because I have a hiatal hernia, which will be fixed during surgery. If they're one of the best in the country and you want to stay with them, then stand your ground. Otherwise, get yourself to another doctor toot sweet. To me, any doctor who would push a DRASTIC surgery such as RNY over a surgery that is not rerouting your innards is somebody I don't want to deal with.

    Why don't y'all see?

Thank you, Nancy. I'm sorry to say I haven't been here long enough or delved far enough to know your story, so I'll just say I'm sorry it's not working out as you hoped (?). :rolleyes2:

    Nsv baby!!

WAY AWESOME, cobrien!! That's a great victory!
  13. C'mon, y'all, please? We're ALL in the same boat here, even if we are all from different backgrounds and stories. We're all successes in the making. This fight is over GLITTER WORDS, for crying out loud! Please, I know y'all are about more than that. The use of another's glitter word is not taking away your uniqueness. Gosh, if that's all it takes to make you less unique, you've got bigger problems. Just think about it.

It certainly hasn't rebounded since the messiah has been elected, has it? Hell, it over 800 points the day AFTER he was elected.

    Bandsters Nov 17-21

Hey, y'all (Texan transplant), another 21st here! Wow, it happened FAST! Went to the seminar 10/1 and here I am. Insurance only required a psych eval. Doc has had me on liquids since last Friday -- no more than 50g of carbs, and as close to 80-100g of Protein as possible. So far I've been getting in about 120, and tons of Water. How much can one person pee, anyway? Little hungry right now, but it's the first I've felt "hungry" since I started. From Friday morning to Monday morning I lost 10 pounds! WOWZA! I've always lost fast in the beginning, but nothing like that. I'm very excited, as everybody else is here. My surgery isn't until 2:30pm on Friday, so it's gonna be a long day. Only a sip or two of water and nothing else.

    Why does no one understand?!?!?!

I agree with all the others. I see you're 22... I know it's hard because you haven't been outside of your parents' grip for too long. However, YOU have to decide for YOU that YOU want this FOR YOU. Right now only three people know: My best friend, a co-worker who I feel very close to, and my husband, and they were told in that order. I didn't even tell hubby until I had already decided to do this procedure because I wanted NO input from ANYbody to convince OR dissuade me on my decision. Though my mom in the past has mentioned surgery as an option for me, I brushed it aside because I thought surgery meant only gastric bypass. I really didn't even know about the band. However, if I were to tell her, she could flip her thoughts on the matter (as she has on other issues in the past) and become not a supporter but a dissuader. And it doesn't help that her neighbor/friend is a nurse, and a very nosy, opinionated one at that who herself could probably use a band and revolves her life around food. I KNEW that if I told my mom anything, she'd be getting stories from her neighbor and then wowza. I don't know yet when I'll tell people. Maybe for some I just won't. Regardless of the band, I STILL have to eat well and right, so I'm not lying by saying I'm making better food choices. I'll cross those bridges when I get to them. But for now, dear one, tune her out. And if you can't do that, politely hang up the phone, don't answer the door, and don't go around her, if that's what it takes.

    Why don't y'all see?

Again, very much agreed. I have NO problem with immigrants, so long as they wait their turn and do it legally, get registered, get MEDICAL CLEARANCE (the diseases these people are bringing back into the states have not been issues for generations), and pay their fair share. And don't anybody dare say they do through what they buy. Being paid under the table is a HUGE source of revenue loss along with all the money sent over the border. But these people don't want to be Americans; they simply want to use what America has to offer so they can send it all back home and be Mexico's version of a millionaire in 10 or 20 years. That is not adding to our economy, that is outright leeching off of it. And I've now lived in the south and the norheast, and there is NO comparison. However, being where I am, there is no shortage of illegal Ecuadorians, Panamanians, and other hispanics not from Mexico. And they can't (nee WON'T) even speak the language.

    Let's Introduce Ourselves

Okay, I just got done reading everybody's introduction. My name is Beth, and obviously I'm from Virginia. I'm 43 and have been married for 15 years last month. I was thin my whole life and had a rockin' bod all through high school and then I hit my 20's. Early 20's I gained about 30 pounds, lost about 30 pounds, gained 20 pounds, and then ballooned over 100 pounds. When I got married at age 28, I was 230 pounds. My highest (that I know of) was 289, and that was where I started out last week (though I've been 289 before and lost 70 pounds previously). Tried Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig, and a number of fad diets. Everything works for a time. The diets worked well, but I didn't. Over time my portion sizes would go up and my choices would become more questionable. I started my pre-op diet last Friday, and as of this morning I was down 10 pounds. My surgery date is on the 21st at 2:30 pm. I can hardly wait. My pre-op diet has consisted of liquids consisting of high protein/low carbs. Have to keep carbs under 50g and get my Protein up as close to 100 as I can. So far not a problem as I've been getting about 125. Hopefully I can't get too much! lol Anyway, congrats to those of you who recently joined the Band, and woo hoo for those of us who are coming up soon! I look forward to meeting up with y'all and eventually sharing PICTURES!!

Try to look at it as better 13 pounds down than 26 pounds heavier (the 13 you lost plus 13 gained). It's amazing how different the doctors are. The first two weeks I will still be on liquids. Then mush for two weeks, then normal food about 12/19 or so.
