I hate it when people post just to post.....

Gonna do me a 5-day pouch test starting tomorrow. Never done it before (usually didn't have to because I would get a fill once a month), but since coming back from vacation and dealing with a lot of stress, my bad eating that started at my folks' has not completely stopped. Figured I'd give this a try and see how it goes. And I'm too afraid to get on the scale. :blushing: -

I'm less afraid of change and more afraid of our government taking over something SO big and SO detremental to our survival. My government has no business getting into the healthcare business when they can't even run a cash for clunkers for one month. And to be fair, I don't care who's in office. I'd be just as up in arms if it was a conservative, a lilbertarian, or a pastor in office -- they have no business butting into my healthcare. I'm sorry, but that much power for any government entity is bad no matter how you color it.

Yet though you've seen government failure after government failure coupled with fiscal irresponsibility on top of that failure, you seem to somehow believe that the government will do a better job of taking care of this mess than if some regulations and reform at the base level were implemented.

LOL, I'm watching it online as I write this!

The thing is, I've told them that. Don't get me wrong, they feed their dog good stuff, so I know that's what they gave mine. We feed them good stuff too, but their systems get used to what we feed them -- the big dog especially. She has a terribly sensitive stomach, and one time after they gave her some "snausages," she puked for two days. I'm sure they forgot, and dinner was never mentioned last night. I need to figure out how to say it so that it won't sound like I'm an ingrate. Seriously, maybe if I show them what all it has done to them, they might get the idea. I mean, the little one got an upset stomach so bad he puked AND crapped (semi-diarrhea) in my bed. Maybe showing them will stick in their heads. I dunno... -
Can't be. I spit.

BJean, I don't know ANYbody who doesn't agree that we need healthcare reform. We just don't believe that 1) the government has any business doing it, and 2) that you scrap an ENTIRE SYSTEM where 85 percent of the people are covered just to cover the remaining 15 percent. In the long run, more than 15 percent will go without. You know, with Teddy "Chappaquiddick" Kennedy's death today, it really makes me wonder: Since he was one of the biggest proponents, if not one of the orignial founders, of government-run healthcare, why is it that he didn't take advantage of it himself? Why was it that HE, with all his resources and private planes, was able to seek out the best care and didn't seek out a plan more akin to what he wants the rest of us to have? With all his family money, I guess that makes him greedy that he didn't spread his family's wealth and instead chose to use that money on himself to extend his own life at the cost of the lives of others. Why is it our government is SO good at taking my money to give to my neighbor, yet ALL of them are independently wealthy compared to the average American? Why doesn't the giving start out at the top? Anyway, under his very plan, a guy of his age would have been sent home with aspirin and nothing more. If he isn't the epitome of hypocrisy, I don't know what is.

I have some great neighbors. These two guys live right in front of us (four homes have a shared drive, called a pipe stem here in the NE), and we have keys to each other's places. Last night I was going to duck out on DH early so I could come home and let the dogs out (by now it was 7pm and we had left at 10am). He said, "Hey, why don't you call the guys and see if they can let them out?" Great idea. So I call, get one of them, and he says, "Sure, no problem." I get home about 9:30 and walk in the house and no dogs. I look across the pipe stem and see my little dog staring at me through their storm door. Okay, fine. I go over there to collect them because it's past their dinnertime, and the guys say they have fed them already (one of them works for a posh pet store in the area). I was so tired I didn't really think anything of it. Until this morning. Little dog sleeps with me in bed. Last night he was acting strange and maybe crying or something that was waking me up. I kept telling him to lay down. I had the windows open last night, so I figured he had heard something. So I wake up this morning, and he had shit right on my NEW duvet. Not only that, he puked on my blanket as well. HOLY HELL!!! And now I've seen two places where my big dog has also puked. I have ASKED these guys not to give them snacks and food, and I know their hearts are in the right place, but I have to keep cleaning up the aftermath!! And seriously -- SHIT IN MY BED??? There's a part of me that would love to bring them over and say, "SEE why I don't want y'all feedig them??" -
Hey, I'm a conservative. I don't do that stuff. *shhh, don't worry HH, I really do. I just have to keep up the facade*

For what it's worth, if y'all hear screaming and yelling coming from Virginia, it'll be DH and I in a row. I hid all his cigarettes AND his car and motorcycle keys so he can't go get any. Doctor's orders, yanno... -

Actually it's a given. This contract will not be renewed. His bosses are scrambling to also try to find him a job, but there's only so much they can do. So now, in THIS economy, he is applying and interviewing. So far he's only had one interview, and that was Friday. -
I don't mean to speak for Cherish, but I believe she was talking about the vital time right before and right after surgery. I have to say, I agree with her. If one believes that the only thing that can save their lives or make them healthy is something as drastic as a surgery, then they choose to "cheat," to me they are not ready to commit to themselves. I have "cheated" since being banded -- eating stuff I shouldn't. But I didn't do ANYthing that would hurt my ability to either get my surgery or would harm the outcome afterwards. If my doc said liquids only, that's all I had. I'm sorry, but if somebody can't even commit to themselves for a couple short weeks, then they simply are not ready to do this and should be weeded out of the process.

I had my gall bladder removed in 2001. Had a stupid doctor who misdiagnosed me for FOUR MONTHS while I suffered with excruciating pain. She kept putting me on this horrendously expensive antacid that I had to get permission from my insurance company month-to-month to purchase because the pills cost over $300 a month. One night the pain finally hit and never quit. Started at midnight and I FINALLY had hubby take me to the emergency room at 6:00 am. To give you perspective of how it is when a stone gets stuck in the duct, I had natural childbirth and was in a LOT of pain -- but I didn't cry. THIS thing had me rolling and screaming on the floor, so bad that I woke my family upstairs, and I was downstairs. Then I started vomiting, and I've NEVER vomited so violently in all my life. Every muscle in my body seized up. I'm not a person to run to the doctor over every little thing, but I told DH that I needed to go to the hospital (which was at the front of my subdivision, literally 3/4 of a mile away). I told him to drive me there, and if they couldn't get me in immediately, bring me home and call an ambulance so I could get right in. A few days after the surgery I was having Thanksgiving dinner with my family, and the Saturday after that, I was in Mexico and climbing Mexican pyramids and snorkling. It was a breeze. The one thing I WILL warn you about, however, is when you eat fatty foods, they kinda go through you. -

EXCELLENT analogy! Like TPG, I was so focused on what didn't happen that I didn't think about what COULD have happened. *takes notes* SOUNDS GOOD! I used to be able to find soy nuts back in Houston but don't know where/how to find them now. Dried soybeans, GOOD fiber, yummy, and helped for those with a crunch fetish. Guess I should really try to look. We will have a new Wegman's here in November, so maybe somebody like them will carry them. -

Not really sure. Last night, when talking to the doc, he said that DH's nerves didn't look horrible. He said some other patients' were so bad that they literally looked bruised. So because DH's didn't look bruised, he thought he would have minimal pain OR actually feel no pain going down his arm any longer. Wrong... Hubby was really REALLY complaining about arm pain last night, more than he ever did before surgery. Then again, like most men, he is a wuss. So, I don't know how long before the wuss factor wears off and he starts being realistic in his expectation of pain and healing. I just hope he's alive by the time I get there and his nurse didn't put a pillow over his face. No worries. That's what we're here for. LOTS of broad shoulders to take on the problems of others. I'm with you there. In about 30 days, hubby may not have a job. And we live in one of THE most expensive places in the US, with a house note ALONE of $2400 a month. I'm more than a little worried myself.
