This can be very simple for you. The key is in getting your Water, it flushes. Next eat the food you family does, when you can, but smaller portions. Stay away from the sweet stuff, even tea and coffee, I lived on chicken, tuna, deli meat and cheese, Veggie of choice was broccoli quick simple and preped in small amounts, Mornings I'm tight and have a slimfast shake or Protein. With thees I can add some fruit or yogurt. If you can eat the guideline amounts the food bill goes down just like the scale. I am lucky because I can eat most everything, so I have to get back to watching my portions. I am limited with income as well, but there are things we will usually have for the family eggs,,good source of protein. My pride in joy is my George Forman Grill, tomato sauce, garlic and onions, shrimp, chicken and stir fry meat are the weekly fair at my house.

Eat the protein you need everyday and take the Biotein. They do help, don't wash daily and when you do use some condictioner instead of shampoo. Keep the style simple so that you aren't putting extra stress on it. It needs some adjutment time for the diet change.

Not as happy or excited as I thought I would be
YngGram replied to readytolosemomof5's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The very first time those jeans that were just a little tight slide on without a problem. When someone says "Wow, you look good, have you lost weight. There will be lots of NSV in your future just wait for it. The excitement will soar -
:)It will get better. Move around as much as you can in the house, it helps to keep the gas from building. Sip slowly, take whatever meds the doc ordered and keep the faith. If you are on liquids, clear or full, only do that. The tummy needs to rest and heal. Before you know it you'll feel human again

Worried: should I be feeling more excited
YngGram replied to JanPuppyLover's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Jan, I have had my band over 2 years, I put a lot of thought into it and made a decision. I am very happy I did, When I made up my mind I started makng changes. I dropped sweet tea and soda, started using smaller plates and trying hard to not refill, I went from 240 in Nov, at the seminar to 233 1st of Jan. and at 221 on day of surgery(3/9), that was from the 2 week liver shrink diet. 6lbs. came off the first 6 days. First fill on the 23rd, some was in from surgery, don't know what went in, but I have never felt restriction. 4/13 a fill and I was 207, 5/3 202, 5/18 200 June was fun 199 on 6/18. 7/23 186. 10/16 178 and got adjustment. I hung right there until summer. As the weather in Jun and & Jul got hotter I had trouble keeping food down. I kept trying to eat and caused myself problems. I had to get an unfill because I had iterated my throat and pouch. I should had done liquids for a few days to let things heal. Then I was extra dumb and didn't go back for a refill until Oct, I had gained 20lbs, Yesterday I got a .3cc fill and I am right back where I was last year this time. Liquids today and I will try some soft tomorrow, hope I can eat without problems, I have always been able to eat anything I wanted, I just have to eat the right foods. Hunger has never been a problem. I want to get off another 10 or 15 lbs. and I'll be good.with that, I had back and foot pain, didn't sleep well and really didn't like me much before my band. Now I am much more comfortable around others and I smile much more,. I don't run from the camera either Good luck -
Recognizing when you are satisfied
YngGram replied to dmg223's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You already know the sign, you said so. Now what you need is to redirect the old habit. Say yes to the sign, and GET UP! Don't pass go, just stop. This helps in so many ways. First, less chance to eat 1 forkful to much,. Next, the band works on feeling satisfied, not full; also enough that we aren't hungry in a couple of hours. Another is that we can easily learn to eat around our band by nibbling slowly until we have eaten more than we needed. The first time you get stuck, or just overfull it is NOT pretty. We aren't on a diet, but a life(eating)style change. -
home from the hospital... Completely unfilled there

Might sound silly but is it hot (100+) where you are? Last year I hadn't had a fill in months and I got tighter when it got hot. This year, I am just not eating much solids and trying to stay in front of it, -
Dang, I wondered the same thing. No response, maybe it should be put somewhere else?

Woo hoo! I now weigh less than I have in 5 years

:Dancing_shocked: OUTSTANDING!! -
I use Papaya Enzyme, try small sips of warm liquids. STOP trying to eat. Do liquids for a couple of days, then mushies. This is in case you have become swollen and are irritated. I had this happen last summer and didn't stop trying to eat, I then had to get an unfill. Funny thing is I hadn't had a fill in months, I had just gotten stuck. IF you can keep the liquids down then you should be ok, if not the unfill is needed. I got a fill yesterday and my doc now prints this out as part of the visit information and instruction for each patient. Good luck.

How many fills is normal or not normal?
YngGram replied to hopeful11's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
:PToday my doc said that 5-7.5 cc should be the green zone for most people with a standard AP band. This is about where I am and that now it's on me to follow the rules and get things going again. I have never really measured my food, I am no longer eating with any kind of schedule and I have never done much with exercise. With the slight fill of .3 cc I am now 5.5 cc in my 10 cc band. Hunger has not been an issue for me, this is why I have stalled. Rather than eat 3 small meals like I should, I only eat when I am hungry. This is as bad as eating the wrong things. As soon as I am back on solids I will be fowling the rules, eating when and as I should and drinking my fluids. In the beginning this worked really well for me and I need to get there again. I have been able to eat most of the things that many others have problems with. This I have enjoyed because I choose the band so I would be able to eat normal foods and not feel like forever on a diet. I want to taste the cake or ice cream sometimes. -
Mother 38 & Daughter 17 possibly doing Lap Band Surgery together....
YngGram replied to sophia123's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
There is a teen site here I believe. But this can be a truly amazing life change.I had hit my 50s before finding this. The questions have daily are would my children and husband been happier if I had lost 63lbs 15 years ago? The weight is depressing, you can't wear what your friends do and you really don't want to shop with them. Parties you won't attend because a gown or bathing suit might be needed. It is not an easy road, it takes commitment and understanding of how the tool can help you loose weight, but you must make good choices, I don't always. You must learn how to work with it not against it. Good luck to both of you, and as a friend if you like. I will respond to any questions you have. -
Funny I had planned to post this same question tonight. My weight based only on height should be 135lbs. At 53 I'm not pushing for that one. My doc really didn't set one for me. I went with 170, just because I thought I could reach it and keep it. I am annoyed that by the "standard" I would still be overweight. I plan a fill on Fri, because I haven't gotten there yet. I now think that I would really like to be 160 by Christmas but I haven't committed to it yet.

I can't believe I had to sign that.

Help, I dont know whats going on...
YngGram replied to CasHorsinRound's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ladies I encountered this problem last year. I hadn't had a fill since fall, but as the summer came I got tighter and tighter. Since I hadn't had a fill I couldn't figure out why I had a problem. It got so bad that the food only had to go in my mouth for it to be rejected , Some days I could eat a little but an hour or so latter I was headed for the restroom, I was chewing Papaya Enzymes like cray, Finally went in and got an unfil. My throat and passageway were swollen. Unfill, 2 days of liquids and 2 mushies I was scared to eat but did get over it, Many say that it just happens but I feel differently, and have done some research. My first thought was the heat., But i have been told that our internal body temp doesn't change so it can't be that, I have since found out about Barometric Pressure, and it does have an impact. -
Last year when it got hot, I had something similar; it was as if I was getting tighter. I got to a point were if it went down it came back up. It went on till I went to doc (DH made me do it) and he did an unfill. He said I had irriated my throat with a bad vomit session and should have done liquids then mushies over a week to give it time to heal. Well we are in triple digits again and the tightness started, so I have been taking it very easy; some days I can only do protein drinks till diner and then 3 or 4 forkfulls and I'm done, this time I am listening to what the body says. I am not loosing, I am seldom hungry; if fact when I do eat the little I think I can...it makes me hungry . About 20 minutes after eating I feel the hunger, where is it coming from? How can I not be hungry until I eat Seeing doc on Fri. I won't let him do an unfill and I hope he does a fill. At the very least he needs to give me some answeres. My big deal is the hidden cals in liquids, I am a coffee junkie with the flavored creamers.

I understand how you feel. I got the band in Mar 09 and was doing really well, I felt. In Dec.& Jan, we had lots of snow and I found comfort in food. I didn't gain but I didn't loose any either. As it got warmer I started to loose again, but then it got hot and I kept getting tighter and tighter. By the middle of Jul I couldn't get anything to stay down, my husband forced me to go in. UNFILL, I had irrated my throat by continuing to try to eat and the entire passageway was swollen. I didn't go back for a fill until Oct,., I had put on about 12lbs. and I have been fighting them since. I can't get it to stay off. I feel cheated, stupid, and lazy. I think I am the same weight as last year this time, but I hate that I haven't lost. We aren't the the first people to have this happen, so just tighten you spine, take it on the chin and go. Your doctor has other patiens that have experienced this and he will not loose his mind. You are doing this for you.

Do you have a problem with Chicken???
YngGram replied to Amanda1982's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Happy to say I've not had any problems with `chicken, but I don't have much restriction. I will have a fill on Fri. I also haven't lost as much as I thought I would. I started out like a champ, but it's been over 2 years and I am only down 63lbs. That doesn't count the 10 I've been fighting the last year. Moisture is important, I made Beer Can Chicken today, and I can eat McChicken, fingers or wings( I know). I add liquid and cover everything that I bake. -
The key here is SLOW DOWN, I have spent over 2 years mastering this burping thing; got real good at it. Then I started eating slower and chewing better, it helps to keep the air out. I found also if I am out with friends eating I would chew a couple of papya enzyens and that would keep it at bay.

Any ladies have the lap band and on tamoxifen ?
YngGram replied to S2b's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Congrats on the upcoming surgery. I wasn't on Tamoxifen at the time, I had moved on to Femara. I didn't find it to be a problem, I am sure you have filled out forms that list your meds; if there were a reason for concern your doc would have mentioned it. I had to list the last 5 years of weight (for insurance) and I was on Tamoxifen at least 3 of those and my weight was not my highest. So I don't think you have anything to worry about. Remember you will be changing what you eat as well as how much, and that is what causes the weight to come off. Some meds do cause you to hold weight or fuild, but the doc can cover that with you. -
a little frustrated
YngGram replied to pinkruffles's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats, and don't be discouraged. There are some simple things to try to get things going. Many people moniter their calorie intake, them little buggers hide in some unexpected places. !. Liquid cals in soda, even diet. Sweet tea was and still is a killer for me. Right now my problem is coffee. I am really stressed and turn to the coffee. Juice is another bad one. Applesauce and such have added sugar unless you get the " no sugar added." Make sure you are getting in your water. If I drink as I should, I don't get as hungry. Also don't drink when you eat, That makes the food go through to quickly and you get hungry quicker. Smaller plates, no seconds and will power. It is hard, but keep in mind why you did this and you can make it work. -
Janiece, First let me laugh. OK, better now. I fully understand where you are with this. Congrats on the weight you've lost. I got my band about 9 months before you and I haven't come close to that. I have had luck on my side (some), I had had lipo a few years before so my muffin is not a large as it would have been,. I had breast cancer and some of my tummy was used to reconstruct a new breast, extra skin was taken then so I really don't have the floppies there. I had a reduction on the other breast, It grew back some, and the weight loss has it drooooooooping. The other still sits up. It is hard to look right in most shirts because of the different sizes and the "new nipple" is always happy. Also, even though I haven't lost any weight in months, the weight is shifting around. Below my knees and elbows I am SKINNY!. Above, I am FLABBY! The thigh jiggle alone has me in jeans in 110 temps. WalMart is my answerer to jeans. Now that I can wear a 12 or 14 I look like I have a butt; it was just a wide FLAT board before. I am glad I don't have "dress up" very often because not much works. The sleeves are tight if it fits everywhere else. If it looks right on the girls out comes the muffin! Still I am in the over-shirt hanging to hide something. My youngest child is older than you, and my DH of 33 yrs thinks I look great in everything, but I see different. Smile child, it will all work out. You did this for a reason and the answerers will come in time. I hope I have given you a smile and this is always the place to vent.

Cant keep anything down??
YngGram replied to jenagirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I feel as the others do, but please stop trying to eat., If it is a slip or not you may have irritate your throat and it is swollen. I don't know where you are but I had something similar last year. For me high temps will caused me to tighten up. I got to a point were I couldn't get anything down. Doc had to do an unfill and he said that I should have gone on liquids for a couple of days and worked my way back up. Here we have reached 110 with the heat index and I have felt like I have overeaten from the time I get up until I go to bed. I don't even want water. I have been sipping a protein drink in the morning and eating softer foods like tuna salad in very small amounts. I know I'm tighter, I just feel like I have already eaten all day. Working hard to get my liquids in so I don't cause a different problem. There is also major stress in my life right now, but I'm going with the heat thing. I even have trouble taking my meds right now.
