    Banded on 03/09/09. Day 4 ...

High Protein has less sugar than their others. My doc was going with a high protein - low carb diet for me which seemed to work well. I had clear for a few hours at the hosptial then full liquids for next 6 days. Mushies for 7 days then solids, intro-ed one at a time to check reactions. Protein is the focus for everything. I use the powders and mix with skim milk, can add powdered milk for extra protein or Protein powder (GeniSoy) is netural. Have some protein bullets I haven't tried yet.

    Banded on 03/09/09. Day 4 ...

We might be twins. Our stats are similar and I got my band Mon. also. Yes the gas it a trip, but I don't have any pain at all so I'll take the gas. It woke me up Tues. from a dead sleep. I got up and walked about the house for about three minuets and was able to burp. I feel mine in two parts, at the top it shows if I have been sitting for a few minuets or twist left or right to quickly. The other just shows up and rules the house. Husband swears there is someone trapped inside because of the noise my tummy has been making. I feel really good and have been out every night for pool, I played Thurs. and won so I am still happy. Fluids at hospital put on an extra 7lbs that is slowly going down. I came down from 240 in Nov. to 218 day of surgery. Couple of those pounds were lost twice as I could not do this without a last dinner of Prime Rib!!! It was worth it! Gas-X is helping some and I get up to around about every 15-20 minuets. I had hoped that I would walk some everyday but it's cold here and I did something to my ankle the week before surgery and it is still swollen. Sip, Sip, Sip and WALK!

    Lap band 03-02-09

I got my band on 3-9, I am on full liquids--Carnation Instant Breakfast Drink (no surgar added), High Protein Slim Fast. I use the powder with skim milk. My doc says no 1% or 2% as it has to much fat. No sugar popciles, crystal light, tea and water. I can have apple or grape juice that is cut with water. I plan to have some egg drop soup next week as I head into the mushies just because I miss something that has a good taste. I can add yogurt and cottage cheese next.
  5. I stayed overnight on Mon. Button down shirt, loose pull on pants, (tummy tender), ROBE you must walk in the gown and the rooms can be chilly while you are sitting up. I didn't get to take my book out, usual tolietries.

    Banded on monday!

CONGRATS!! I was also got my band Mon. I did the overnight and was glad to do it. I live over an hour from the hospital. I was able to sleep in comfort. I have an ON-Q Catheter inserted that delivers pain meds to my incision site so I have no other pain meds to deal with and NO PAIN. I was able to get out of bed without help, the first ice chips stayed down, upper GI was good and I started my liquids. The gas is much fun, but I am able to burp and get it out. Ready for some mushies but got to do the full liquids for a week. (could be worse) I was able to go out last night and I am not feeling tired. With all the fluids they gave me I was 5 pounds heavier when I got home but I know that will pass. I am sipping but I don't want it. GO US!!!
  7. My doc lets me count the shake as part of my 64 oz. also jell-o and Popsicles. Check and see if that's what your doc allows. I was banned yesterday.
  8. Boy do I hope that is true!!! Mine is really crazy, but my daughter has same problem, and she is smaller. Only hope there is that the stress level she is under has her pushing that hair out.
  9. CONGRATS!!! I will be banned in the morning:willy_nilly:. I am with you on the WOW! Last weekend I pulled on a pair of 18 jeans that I haven't be able to pull up in over 2 years! On Wed. those same jeans were lose on my legs. I did something to my ankle over the weekend and couldn't exercise all week, so I am extra happy.

    Getting closer!

I will be banned on Mon. I have told my friend who had gastric a few years ago. She has already done a "what you eat" on me. I don't like that and I think she will back down. My kids have been told, husband gave approval, but I think he is a little worried. I just don't want anyone else in this. I mentioned it to a few people when it first crossed my mind and I got the same kind of comments. You don't need it, you're not fat enough!! So I am rolling and aint worried about the people. BTW-- why did you have to have a sleep study I am TriCare also. Doc submitted on 21 Jan and approval on 23 Jan
  11. I will be banned in a few days. My doc submitted my paperwork to insurance based on my intial consult with him and my history over the past five years of being overweight. He said that once I got approval the only other thing he gives them is my actual date of surgery.

    Choosing a surgeon

I want to be the one to choose. The number of procedures they performed is very important to me. I am driving a little over an hour, but the two that were closest to me didn't feel right for me. One of them was at a Center of Excellence, but the manner was just off enough for me to keep looking. My surgery is next week and I think I feel better about it because of the choice I made. Good Luck

    Protien Shakes

Super Wal-Mart had the price about the same, I thought it was high. They also had the powder which makes about 14 drinks with skim milk, so I went that way. My doc also allows me to have the Carnation Instant Breakfast no sugar added. This is about 5 bucks for 8 packs. Found these at Food Lion and Wal-Mart.
  15. I must ask if he is with a Center of Execellence? These guys seem to be more like what we expect. My seminar was about 2 hours ( I went to three different), my consult with the surgeron was about an hour. He talked with me about my medical history and discussed the process throughly. I had nutrition class for an hour where we taked about me, what I had tried, what I was doing currently and what did I expect to change after surgery. I later had a 4 hour group class, got had outs and a lot of q&a. So I have gotten a ton of info and 2 or 3 back up phone numbers to get answeres. I will have WLS next Monday. I am not as worried about my choice as some others have mentioned, so don't settle. Check him out well. Both of the first two I went to see didn't come off right to me. Good luck.

    What's wrong with me?!

Pat the sofa and move over!!! I haven't been banned yet but I do know that you aren't alone. I am just on my pre-op and keep having "stupid" moments. I am not hungry, but for the last two hours have been fighting the urge to eat something I shouldn't! This past weekend I was all tears over everything and nothing. For many of us I think eating is an emotional thing and as women our emotions rule us. Food gets used for joy and sadness, celebration and solace. We learned the bad habit of turning to food and we just have to learn how to turn away from it. Don't be hard on yourself, it takes time and this is a new journey. I am reading everything I can and keeping my mind clear. Rejoice in the victory no matter how small, and forgive yourself of infractions no matter how big.

    Lapband on March 11th

hmmmmm Go to tickerfactory.com and create the ticker. When you finish it will show the code for you to copy. Copy it and come back here to UserPc and paste the info into the signature box. This does not always work the first time. Good Luck!!!
  18. Good luck and god speed!!
  19. I am TriCare Standard, I suggest that you check the insurance post. I did my TriCare search there. It went smoothly for me, so good luck to you.
  20. Counting down to the 9th, I have not found the pre-op diet to be to bad. Mine is not all liquid and I haven't been hungry. I find that I do have some texture issues I didn't know about. If nothing rubs the roof of my mouth I'm not sure I've eaten. I have been pulling back from the food for about 2 months so I am doing OK for now. I really do wish I had eaten that Prime Rib like I wanted to last week before I started the pre-op. Oh well, I really want t be under 220 before the 6th, so I'll just keep pushing for that.
  21. Listed on my all my info packs as a good thing. The more fluid (not with meals) the better.

    Which band should I choose?

I am doing the pre-op for surgery on the 9th as well. I am not hungry-I can have 2 high protein slimfast (using powder with sim milk) or carnation instant breakfast(no sugar), a sandwich, 1/2 cup veggies ...possible snacks.. cukes, tomatoes, 1/2 bannana, 1/2 grapefruit, cottage cheese, yogurt. Both powders taste fine and I add a little instant coffee in the am for the kick. Don't forget the water or crystal lite drinks.

    Question about fees

Program fees are normal, but this is really high to me. I live in Northen VA, but I know other areas can be higher. I am driving over an hour to see someone that has no program fee. All my test could have been done with them, but I went for the convenice of close to home for those. I had 2 nutrition classes (1 as 4 hrs. long) that wre included. I checked with 2 other groups first and each had fees of about $450, plus they wanted me to do a 6 month structed program for a fee and use Optifast for 2 weeks at about $350, pay for nutrition classes about $200. Dang, not that far off from you. Check around, it might be worth it to drive.
  25. Hi All, I attended a seminar in Fredericksburg by Dr. Stelmack on Sat. I find the surgery to be what I think I need and can do. I am so excited that I am already frustrated with the slowness of the process. I have faxed in the info pack to his office, checked for info from my insurance co. (Tricare) and I want a call. I am almost 51 yrs. old, 240lbs., 5'2", BMI 44 have high blood pressure and major foot pain. I so want something to change. I don't understand why I haven't gotten a call to at least have a one on one with dr. so I can ask questions. Should this happen I hope to have lots of support from the folks here and especially the ones close by.:w00t:
